>> INSIDER WIRE —When they're not out showing off their new covetable line of bags, the boys of Proenza Schouler might be at the organic farm they own in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough will even "go and take care of the animals," but they leave the slaughtering to the professionals: "It's intense." [The Cut]

>> Along with their first full-blown shoe collection for Spring 2009, the boys at Proenza Schouler have their hands full with a new handbag line. They waited until they felt like they had something to say, according to Jack Hernandez, and they wanted "a bag that feels familiar but is completely different" and "would transcend seasons." Along with a good view of the upcoming offerings, Jack talks about their "secret bag" — "they're called the PS-1. No one has them yet, we just gave them to friends." An it bag in the making? It's possible, since Vanessa Traina already has one . . .

>> Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's book, Influence, doesn't come out until Thursday, but The Cut got an advanced copy — an advanced look at all the interviews the Olsens conducted for the book — among their subjects are favorite designers Francisco Costa, Diane von Furstenberg, John Galliano, Christian Louboutin, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, Giambattista Valli, favorite photographers Peter Lindbergh and Terry Richardson, plus pictures by Rankin of the interviewees and their work.
Needless to say the Olsens didn't leave out their favorite Karl Lagerfeld — The Cut excerpted parts of his interview, including his views on models:
KL: [N]owadays you start to model because you're young. Now the girls are sixteen, seventeen, fifteen, and Russian. They are like from another planet.
AO: They can look very bizarre!
KL: I hate all these tall women. They are all giants!
MKO: If only I were a little taller — that would make me happy!
KL: You are one meter fifty-one. You are taller than that?
AO: We're five feet and one inch.
KL: Oh, I thought my office told me that you were four-foot eight or something. Not that it matters. What you need is a face. If you have a face you don't need height or a voice. Models know this; that's why the good ones don't need to talk much.
KL: I like to work with models for a long time. Sometimes the girls change, but some girls I work with for years and years.
Enlightening, perhaps, since some think the Chanel Spring 2009 campaign will host not long-time Chanel girl Claudia Schiffer but either Heidi Mount or Russian model Sasha Pivovarova . . .

>> Alice Dellal may have been a special guest at Alexander Wang, but she was there in spirit at Proenza Schouler — the sideswept wavy hair, red lip, leathers, zippers, and crop tops shown were all reminiscent of her look. She may have been a starting point, but the collection had a downtown refinement that you would never seen in Alice — she revels too much in the grunge. All I have to say is: So many fun, billowy jumpsuits, so little time. And don't forget to check out the accessories — they're part of Jack and Lazaro's first full season effort.

>> A look to the left reveals a first image of Proenza Schouler's shoe deal with Giuseppe Zanotti, and now, to the right, the specifics.
Until now, the label didn't have any commercial shoes, except for the ones they did for shows with a little factory. But moving forward, expect ballet shoes, loafers, lace-up sandals, and heels to hit stores for the resort season, running from the $300s up to $3,000, and hitting an average of $685.
Now that there's a whole Proenza Schouler accessories team, handbags are on the horizon, too, but as Lazaro Hernandez explained:
The entire market is so dense with bags and everything else, that until we [find] something original and specific to say, we [don't] want to say anything. We don't do anything unless we have something to say.
Wise choice.

>> The Proenza Schouler boys must be ready to make some serious moolah, because they're jumping into the accessories bin full-force.
Last month, Lazaro Hernandez professed that he and Jack want to conquer bags for next year, and now comes the news that they've signed a licensing deal with Giuseppe Zanotti to produce a full range of shoes by Spring 2009. The first taste of the deal will appear with the Resort 2009 collection, and allows Proenza to grow their shoe selection, which has been limited to small capsule collections in the past.
