Miuccia Prada Descends, Naomi Campbell Causes Commotion at the 2009 Venice Biennale June 8, 2009 2:35 pm >> The Venice Biennale contemporary arts exhibition attracted plenty of familiar fashion faces by last Thursday, but it wouldn't have been complete without an appearance by contemporary art patron Miuccia Prada, who obliged on Friday with a party courtesy of the Fondazione Prada. Extreme Beauty Brings Out Three Extreme Beauties: Eva, Claudia, and Nadja March 3, 2009 1:27 pm >> Paris Fashion Week starts tomorrow, but fashion folk couldn't leave Milan without hitting up the Palazzo della Ragione last night for one last Milanese shindig, courtesy of Anna Wintour, Domenico Dolce, and Stefano Gabbana. The launch for the "Extreme Beauty in Vogue" exhibition — which Anna selected 89 images for — the party was likened to the Milanese equivalent of the Costume Institute Gala; in other words, the week's hottest ticket. Karl Lagerfeld made a beeline for the photos after mugging for a few cameras, while Anna was trailed by 60 Minutes's Morley Safer and Carine Roitfeld by CNN: “I am being followed round all the shows, and they are doing lots of interviews. But you won’t be seeing me naked.” Miuccia Prada sported one of her new Fall 2009 gladiatorial dresses, and rounding out the fashion wattage a troika of supermodels: two we see quite a bit of (Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova) and one we do not (Nadja Auermann).*image: source, source

Carine Roitfeld, Christy Turlington, Karl Lagerfeld Among Vanity Fair's 2008 Best-Dressed July 29, 2008 10:03 am >> The September 2008 issue of Vanity Fair may not have given us the supermodel cover we were hoping for, but in exchange, it does give us the annual International Best-Dressed List. The fashion industry was well-repped, with designers (Karl Lagerfeld, Stacey Bendet), models (Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Christy Turlington), editors (Carine Roitfeld, Alexandra Kotur), and even a muse or two (Tilda Swinton, Iris Apfel, Fran Lebowitz) all making the cut.
But perhaps even more fun than perusing the list is browsing the quippy reasons Vanity Fair gave for picking each person. A choice few, below:
Alexandra Kotur, Vogue style director, "Because [she's a] Kotur de force."
Carine Roitfeld, "Because she's the rogue editor-in-chief."
Carla Bruni-Sarkozy "Because we like her French twist."
Christy Turlington, "Because she put the chic in sirshasana."
Fran Lebowitz, 2008 Hall of Fame inductee.
