>> Alexander Wang may have changed up his collection's look for Spring 2010, but he's not about to lose his street cred. He partnered with Katie Grand and LOVE, rented out a Mobil gas station last night, and brought a crowd — which included Trish Goff, Daphne Guinness, L'Wren Scott, Erin Wasson, Vanessa Traina, plus fellow designers Esteban Cortazar and Gareth Pugh.
Despite the fact that the station's gas tanks were drained yesterday afternoon and the venue drenched with nonflammable suds, cigarettes were verboten; nicotine-dependent guests were constantly reminded with "Please stop smoking!" announcements. To take their minds off those forbidden cigarette, there were performances by both Courtney Love, who told the audience she received (ironically) a carton of cigarettes and a pair of shoes to play, and Santigold; plus guests had a free run of anything in the station's convenience store: Bee Shaffer took advantage of the candy aisle.
Alexander, for his part, seemed to be enjoying himself — he chatted up Lily Donaldson and Frankie Rayder, got down with Hanne Gaby Odiele (below), and jumped onstage and into Courtney Love's arms during her performance.

>> INSIDER WIRE —Azzedine Alaia, The Row, and L'Wren Scott are all notoriously press-shy but hold some of the most exclusive Fashion Week presentations; the latter, formerly known as Luann Bambrough, sat down last week at Barneys to talk shoes (she designed her first pairs to be available for Fall 2009), designing jewelry ("I like to buy vintage diamonds and create my own shapes. In the future, I’d like to make jewelry and sell it under my own name"), and how her own dresses escape her ("I love that dress. But it sold so well, I didn’t get to keep one! I’m the last person to get my clothes! Most of my favorite pieces, I don't own!"). [The Daily Beast]

>> INSIDER WIRE —Now that the New York Fashion Week dates have been pushed back to Feb. 13-20, the London Fashion Week organizers aren't the only ones feeling the time crunch. With the Academy Awards just two days after the conclusion of Fashion Week on Feb. 22, red carpet-friendly designers like J.Mendel, Oscar de la Renta, Marchesa, Proenza Schouler, Vera Wang, Calvin Klein, Zac Posen, L'Wren Scott, and Ralph Lauren — all of whom show on the last three days of Fashion Week — are going to have a doozy of a time getting samples from runway to red carpet for the big night. >> INSIDER WIRE — L'Wren Scott is like the fashion jack of all trades: She's modeled, styled, designed, acted as muse . . . and she's even infamously worn a Thierry Mugler dress with a "pubic neckline," explaining: "The things we do, darling." Also, her "obsession"? It has nothing to do with fashion: just plain-old Purell hand sanitizer. [NYT T Magazine]
