Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana Continue Yacht Vacation with Giovanna Battaglia and Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld

>> Two weekends ago, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana docked their yacht in Capri to party with Naomi Campbell and her boyfriend Vladislav Doronin, and it appears that the fun hasn't stopped: On Sunday, they popped up in the Aeolian Islands of Italy with former house model - and current Vogue L'Uomo editor - Giovanna Battaglia and Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, where they did a little window shopping before stopping for lunch. Giovanna has earned plenty of attention for her dressed-up Fashion Week-ready style - of which she told the New York Times:

I’m classic. I’m not a rock ’n’ roll chick. And I like to mix old and new. I’ll never wear a full look from a fashion show. It has to be personalized. Accessories have always been a big thing for me. I have 352 pairs of shoes. I’m not kidding. I have a wall filled with them, and then another for handbags. I never throw anything away.

But as for vacation attire, it's all about denim cutoffs, and later, she strolled to the beach wearing a lace dress as coverup.

Vogue's Olympic Cover, H&M's Apology, and Lara Stone's Love Story

America's Olympians have taken over the June issue of Vogue, with a cover featuring soccer player Hope Solo, swimmer Ryan Lochte, and tennis star Serena Williams. Lochte is the fourth man to be included on the cover of Vogue (the other three are Richard Gere, George Clooney, and LeBron James). Inside the magazine, Karlie Kloss poses alongside other athletes, like gymnast Jonathan Horton and basketball player Dwyane Wade. [Vogue]
H&M has apologized for using an image of a tan-skinned Isabeli Fontana to advertise its Summer swimsuits after a Swedish anticancer group accused the brand of promoting "a beauty ideal that is deadly." H&M said in a statement that "It was not our intention to show off a specific ideal or to encourage dangerous behaviour, but was instead to show off our latest summer collection." Lara Stone revealed how her husband, David Walliams, managed to woo her in the new issue of Vogue Netherlands: "He stalked me," she joked. Asked whether she thought their romance was sparked by love at first sight, Stone said, "To him it was!" [Vogue UK]
Manolo Blahnik has signed a deal to expand his footprint in London. Shoe retailer Kurt Geiger will open a Manolo Blahnik shop-in-store at Harrods in time to sell the accessories brand's Fall 2012 collection. Kurt Geiger opened a similar space for Blahnik at Liberty London this February. [Vogue UK]
The May issue of L'Uomo Vogue is dedicated to "Rebranding Africa." Editor Franca Sozzani said she wanted to portray African nations in a favorable light. "Presenting a positive image of the continent means focusing world attention on an area that has been hitherto excluded," she said. [Fashion Etc.]
Meanwhile, Sozzani's other magazine Vogue Italia recently shot a spread featuring reality star Kim Kardashian. [@KimKardashian]
Model Lily Kwong has big plans for after she graduates from Columbia University. Kwong, who is Joseph Altuzarra's cousin, says she will travel on behalf of her new charity Nuvana, which helps empower the youth in poor communities. [Lifestyle Mirror]

See All Four Covers From Max Pearmain and Ashley Heath's New Edition of Arena Homme Plus

>> With its new editorial team, the biannual Arena Homme Plus has become something of a brother publication to POP - they now share the same editorial director, Ashley Heath, and the magazine's new editor in chief, Max Pearmain, used to be acting menswear editor at POP.

Heath and Pearmain's first edition of Arena Homme Plus hits newsstands next Monday, April 11 in the UK (and Monday, April 18 for the rest of the world), boasting four different covers, one each playfully dubbed "Stephen," "Stevie," "Steve," or "Steven."

"The men's fashion magazine market has become so staid and predictable," Pearmain notes of his vision for the magazine. "It was actually more inspiring in many ways 15 years ago when there was just L'Uomo, Vogue Hommes, and Arena Homme Plus . . . We wanted to inject some surprise and some passion and some playfulness back into this world."

Pearmain himself styled New Order's Stephen Morris for the "Stephen" cover, artist Clunie Reid created scrawling artwork for the "Stevie" cover (left), David Sims photographed the "Steve" cover, and Steven Klein, of course, captured the "Steven" cover. The Klein version of the issue - or Homme+ PLUS as it has been christened - comes with 45 extra pages of more "hardcore" content. Some of it has already been posted online (NSFW) and will only be sold in selected independent retailers and online.

The move back to Arena Homme Plus is something of a coming home for Heath, who used to edit the magazine himself: "It's been fun to return. I really built that magazine on blood, sweat, and tears back in the day, so it was great that David Sims, Steven Klein, and others from the glory days returned and contributed such strong, strange work. There's this sense of travel, of art and design, of the way the world is changing . . . We changed the paper stocks a bit and did that 'special sections' thing I'm into recently. The magazine is still niche, but it will appeal to a broader cross-section of stylish men."

Alongside contributions from Sims and Klein, the new issue also features work by Wolfgang Tillmans, Collier Schorr, and Ari Marcopoulos.

>> T's Stefano Tonchi Jumping Ship to Vogue? -With all the suffering at the New York Times and the recent downsizing of its T style magazine, rumors are starting to fly that the magazine's editor Stefano Tonchi - who always attends couture but was mysteriously missing from the Paris shows last week (in fact, all of T was) - is in the running for a top job at Vogue. The position in question is not Anna Wintour's, so where would he sit? He's previously worked as fashion director at L'Uomo Vogue and fashion creative director at Esquire . . . [FWD]

Miuccia Prada Descends, Naomi Campbell Causes Commotion at the 2009 Venice Biennale

>> The Venice Biennale contemporary arts exhibition attracted plenty of familiar fashion faces by last Thursday, but it wouldn't have been complete without an appearance by contemporary art patron Miuccia Prada, who obliged on Friday with a party courtesy of the Fondazione Prada. The opening was temporarily put off by torrential rains, but still managed to attract the likes of Marc Jacobs, Lorenzo Martone, Franca Sozzani, Carine Roitfeld, Carla Sozzani, and Dasha Zhukova.

Many of the guests then carried on to Francois Pinault's Palazzo Grassi, where Gucci Group was sponsoring a party in honor of L'Uomo Vogue's art issue. Naomi Campbell - who one observer noted was keeping a lower profile than at the Biennale in 2007 - joined the crowd, apparently making quite the entrance with boyfriend Vladislav Doronin and his bodyguards and causing one guest to joke, "Does he need them to protect himself from Naomi?"

Dolce & Gabbana Are "Old Chickens" in the Fashion System

>> The men of Dolce & Gabbana not only like to argue with fellow designers, they like to squabble among themselves. In the February 2009 issue of Interview, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana sit down with Tim Blanks for what turns out to be quite the sassy little chat, ranging from how they approach designing to how their Milan office has not one, but two signed prints of a Madonna portrait by Steven Klein: "'Of course, one each,' Gabbana says archly. 'Dolce & Gabbana is not one.'”

They know their weaknesses - animal prints, corsets - and try hard to stay away.

SG: We start every season with a piece of paper, two lists- “Yes” and “No.” And always it’s “No brocade, no animal prints . . .” It’s too easy to do the brocade. We do the list because we are not young. We are old chickens in the system. We’ve done this job for 24 years, you know.

DD: And we design too much animal print. So, “No animal print,” and “Yes a white shirt with lace,” “Yes a new shoulder,” “No brocade . . .” But finally, maybe I need some brocade.

SG: Or then maybe I need to do it in a corset, and in the end . . .
