>> Just like with last September's issue, a select few received a courtesy September 2008 Vogue issue in "it" bag form. It comes in a clear carrying case with black leather and chain handles, but perhaps best is the box it arrived in. Last year's box came with "Caution: Heavy" stickers, and this year's stickers continue to poke fun — the issue isn't as big as last year's record-breaker, so instead, there's a "Caution (Still) Heavy" sticker. You have to love a self-deprecating Vogue.

>> BLOWING THE COVER —Vogue's September 2008 issue is causing waves for two reasons today — first, for the odd, matted hairstyle that Keira Knightley is sporting on the cover, and second, because it is down to 674 ad pages from 725 last year. One full ad page can cost up to $120,000, so losing 51 pages . . . well, that hurts. [BellaSugar, WSJ]
Vogue Hitting a Slump to Rival the Economy's?
>> After all the is-it-or-is-it-not-racist hoopla the April 2008 issue of Vogue, featuring LeBron James and Gisele Bundchen, caused, news that the issue only sold 350,000 copies on the newsstand does not bode well. Patricularly because that number makes the issue Vogue's worst-selling April issue since 2001.
To make matters worse, the May 2008 issue, featuring a frigid Gwyneth Paltrow, sold even less: 310,000 copies (Vogue's 2007 average for the first half of the year was 452,207 issues sold). Maybe (for Anna's sake) Keira Knightley's cover, shot by Mario Testino for the September 2008 issue, will fare better?

>> BLOWING THE COVER — Earlier this week, a German fan caught up with Keira Knightley in Berlin, and got Mario Testino to take a camera phone picture for him. But I'm more interested in what's going on in the surroundings: Mario Testino, makeup artist Gucci Westman, flame-haired Vogue creative director Grace Coddington . . . Hello! says they're all in town for a British Vogue cover shoot, but with this team, I'm thinking it's for the mother Vogue. [Hello!]
