Eddie Borgo Welcomes Giovanna Battaglia to New York with Celebratory Dinner

>> Giovanna Battaglia, who moved four weeks ago to New York and has started working more with W, was thrown a welcoming dinner last night at The Upstairs at Cipriani Downtown by Eddie Borgo and his boyfriend, stylist Keegan Singh. Battaglia wore an “I Heart New York” t-shirt studded all across the front by Borgo (left), and celebrated with the likes of Gaia Repossi, Vladimir and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, and Joseph Altuzarra. W's Joseph Logan designed t-shirts that were passed out, proclaiming “New York Loves Gio,” one of which Altuzarra then customized for Battaglia with a pair of scissors. [W]

>> The second installment of Swedish magazine Intermission is jam-packed with interviews: Gaia Repossi, Isabel Marant, Joseph Altuzarra, Tabitha Simmons, Waris Ahluwalia, Victoire de Castellane, and Vogue Paris art director Johan Svensson among them - and all are translated from Swedish into English at the back of the issue.

John Scarisbrick photographed and Keegan Singh styled the two covers - one with Hanne Gaby Odiele, and the other Vanessa Traina, who inside talks to Stephanie LaCava about going to high school with Alexander Wang ("He used to cut up these vintage jeans and make us denim skirts. I still have them - and he’d make us T-shirts. We used to place orders every season with him."), consulting for Joseph Altuzarra ("Our relationship is different than most because Joseph and I are so close. As friends, we hang out at least four times a week."), and her boyfriend, Chad Muska ("I was with some girlfriends and he was with a friend of one of my girlfriends and we met at a restaurant one night in LA. That was eight years ago and it slowly evolved into a relationship. He’s a street skater. We live together in the West Village, but he also has a studio in Union Square. He’s always been into photography, but he’s been playing around with it a little more and doing some large-scale work, a mix of photographer and painting. I have his pictures hanging in our bedroom. It’s a photo series he did of Kate Moss manipulated and painted different shades of pink.").

Kate Lanphear Stars in Eddie Borgo's Fall 2010 Campaign

>> Newly-named CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund nominee Eddie Borgo has shot his jewelry on Vanessa Traina and Lauren Santo Domingo in the past, but for his Fall 2010 online campaign, which launches with the new collection on his web site come Monday, he went with friend and Elle style director Kate Lanphear. “Kate is the epitome of the modern-day punk,” Borgo told Style.com. “She encapsulates the current undertone of fashion in the most elegant, effortless way, while remaining one of the most real women in New York City.” The images were shot by Paul Maffi and styled by Borgo's boyfriend (and Lanphear's close friend) Keegan Singh.

Interview Keeps the 40th Anniversary Celebration Going with a Little Subbasement Revelry

>> Two floors below the ground level entrance to the Hudson Hotel, Interview celebrated its 40th anniversary last night by christening Good Units, the hotel's new club. The space still had remnants of its past life as a 1930s YMCA - wooden bleachers sat in the middle of the main room, providing seating for the likes of Subversive Jewelry's Justin Giunta and Edita Vilkeviciute - and above, where the room's indoor track used to be, party-goers got an eagle's eye view of the dancing going on below. Archival Interview covers and graffiti by Brian Ermanski on the room's four walls gave the party a '90s vibe.

The crowd was teeming with notables, ready to kick-start Fashion Week. Vena Cava's Lisa Mayock and Shipley and Halmos's Jeff Halmos found a less crowded corner near the bar to chat by while Halmos's design partner Sam Shipley fetched drinks. Becka Diamond and Keegan Singh, arms linked, navigated the crowd and later, Singh's boyfriend Eddie Borgo appeared. Giovanna Battaglia, in a red and black leopard-print minidress, grooved to the music, while Derek Blasberg and Kate Bosworth, nearby, animatedly broke it down before scurrying off into the crowd. Mary-Kate Olsen, who's gearing up for her first The Row presentation, as styled by Marie-Amelie Sauve, and Chloe Sevigny both chatted with Lazaro Hernandez. A dark-haired Martin Cohn teetered in those Nina Ricci platform heels. And Dasha Zhukova, fresh off the purchase of a $19.5 million home in Los Angeles last month, flitted by in an emerald fitted coat. All in all, not a bad way to start out the week.

Runway Report: Jen Kao Spring 2010

Jen Kao lightened up fall's moody palette this season with a collection that largely stayed within neutral tones of rose, gray, and white. While colors were paler, Kao continued to please her tough-chic fans with cropped motorcycle jackets, geometric bustier dresses and sharp cut-outs. As Kao explained, "The collection is feminine, but still very structural. The clothes are free and draped, but still very complex in the way they are built."

The detailed construction was evident in the graphic paneling of a suede mini skirt, a silk kimono with chain embroidery, and a sharply tailored white suit with strong shoulders. Eddie Borgo cuffs and earrings were a nice hard-edged contrast to the collection, as were Tania Spinellie's chain mail fringe heels. Each inspired, according to Kao, by medieval face shields and all styled expertly by Keegan Singh.

Jen Kao Goes With a Little Jingle, A Lighter Look for Spring 2010

>> Jen Kao, known for her hard-edged, heavily black palette and her downtown cred - Julia Restoin-Roitfeld fluttered around and Lauren Santo Domingo rushed in, personally escorted by Milk's Mazdack Rassi - took things to a lighter place for Spring 2010. Her collection was entirely in nude, bone, slate . . . but her favorite triangular lines and sharp edges remained - even in the runway pattern. Kao's go-to team (and couple) Keegan Singh and Eddie Borgo styled and contributed jewelry, respectively; Borgo's dangling, structured earrings and necklaces, as always, were standout. And Tania Spinelli contributed the "flutter chain" heels which bounced as the models walked.

But the change in direction was striking - especially because it produced an uncharacteristically tailored white suit, a long nude jersey gown, and another beaded gown that jingled as Myf Shepherd walked.

Double (or Triple) Duty Presentations

Gareth Pugh confirmed that he will be showing a video directed by Ruth Hogben on Sept. 13 to "set the mood for [his] catwalk show that will take place as usual in Paris." After the private showing, he'll screen the short film in public nearby - get your name on the guest list via MAC's Facebook page. [Style File]
Temperley London is taking their interactive Spring 2010 multimedia presentation on the road for the second time, starting in New York Sept. 15 before evolving in format for London Fashion Week and then again in Paris, where it will become an exhibit. The film aspect, plus stills and a behind-the-scenes cut will be readily available online on Temperley's new website.
