Karen Walker to Partner With Anthropologie

>>This Spring, Karen Walker brings her particular breed of New Zealand girlie-quirk to the American mass market by storm. As announced via the brand's Twitter and Facebook earlier today, the designer has inked a deal with Anthropologie that puts her lower-priced Hi There From Karen Walker line of "cute dresses, fun prints, and strong colors" exclusively at 164 Anthropologie stores, starting March 2012. "It's completely different to everything else we've been doing," Walker told The New Zealand Herald. "We've been in the luxury market for 14 years, but this reaches a wider audience . . . [it's] a totally different price point, a totally different product and it's really our first time in the States going en masse." >> For Spring 2012, Karen Walker riffed on the idea of "The American Girl", citing two polar-opposites in particular: buttoned-up Betsy and street-wise Iris from the 1976 movie Taxi Driver. And so out came the straight skirts, prim blouses, and secretary dresses for Betsy; jaunty jumpsuits, mixed-up prints, and mini-skirts for Iris. But fans of Walker know the designer doesn't like to play her references too straight, and thus these '70s girls got a bit of a 1940s twist - pants were cropped and pleated, blazers were shoulder-padded and twee, and peplums flared over many a hip.

Karen Walker's Fall 2009 collection, which was shown during New York Fashion Week, was titled "Cracked". On the runway the theme manifested in chic break-away jackets and quirky prints depicting shattered china plates and broken strands of pearls. Fall 2009 New York Trend Report: Red Is The Color Of The Season

We just had to wait until after Valentine's Day to say this--we're thinking red is the hot color for Fall 2009. Not only have head-to-toe red looks come together from Lyn Devon and 6119 Ilana Sunderland, but, last night, Ruffian sent their red-clad models down a matching runway. Combine the monochromatic examples with the glimpses of it at Rag & Bone (and color is hard to come by with those gents), the transparent instances at Verrier, and the ruby prints at Karen Walker, and you've got yourself a pretty strong case for the color.

Karen Walker Offered Cool Trousers, Shades, Her Signature Hats

Karen Walker showed one of her cool, signature collections today--there were sunglasses in exaggerated shapes, easy pleated high-water trousers, silk dresses with floral prints and feminine ruching on the sleeves. It's a formula that keeps the guest list the same every season--making her shows feel more like a fun Fashion Week break than anything else.
