Teen Vogue Said to Be Making 25 Percent Budget Cuts, Some Editors Already Moving On

>> McKinsey is in its second-to-last week of its three-month examination of the workings of Conde Nast, and the New York Observer reports that in the last few days, Conde executives, under the direction of McKinsey, asked a number of magazines - of which Teen Vogue is believed to be among - to cut their budget next year by roughly 25 percent. It's unclear if Vogue or W will be similarly instructed.

According to sources, top brass is not being specific about how the cuts should be made, but potential options could be diminishing expenses, doing away with freelance, reducing magazine frequency, or layoffs. Conde CEO Chuck Townsend told the Observer a few weeks ago: “I can boil what I say to editors and publishers down to the simplest statement in the world and that is: You, not me, you have a responsibility to run this business in a responsible way. It’s your responsibility. I want to see your proposal of how you’re going to do it.”

Suddenly Everywhere - Statement Earrings

>> Are shoulder-grazing earrings replacing collar necklaces and arm parties as the fashion crowd's favorite statement jewelry? Maybe, if all the jumbo earrings spotted on the streets of the most recent fashion weeks are any indication. From New York to Paris, giant baubles were spotted dangling from many a well-styled ear - Joanna Hillman wore Eddie Borgo's red silk tassel dusters in New York (far left); Giovanna Battaglia wore an ornate cross style in Milan (top, far right); and Olivia Palermo sported a huge emerald-enamel set in Paris (bottom left). But this look wasn't just confined to the streets: the Spring 2012 runways offered up their fair share as well, with Marni, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Etro, and Blumarine all marching out versions of the style. While it may be too soon to tell if this look has real staying power, one thing is certain: it's a playful way to switch it up, and it definitely feels fresh for the season. Peter Som Spring 2012

>> "Courtney Love meets Julie Christie; a rich East Village girl who's a bit of a mess," stated hairstylist Eugene Solomon backstage before the Peter Som Spring 2012 show earlier today at Milk Studios. It was an acurate description, not only of the hair - which was side-swooped and puntuated with Kool-aid-hued strips - but also of the collection itself, with it's updated '60s silhouettes, vibrant hues, Charlotte Olympia-designed platforms, and chic-surfer mood. "I really wanted to convey the strength and energy of downtown in the prints, the tweeds, all the things that I love," Som explained. To that end, there were cropped pants in large-scale photo-florals, retro-tinged bathing suits in zebra-head repeats, collarless jackets in graphic houndstooth, and high-shine skirts in canary yellow. The buoyant mood on the runway was matched only by the first-day-of-school vibe in the front row - Tommy Hilfiger, Taylor Tomasi Hill, Amanda Hearst, Bryan Boy, and Joanna Hillman were there, as was Anna Dello Russo who chatted with seatmate Hanneli Mustaparta.
