Victoria's Secret, Sports Illustrated Model Jessica White Arrested

>> Jessica White, 26, who has been featured in Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Edition consistently since 2003, walked in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, and recently been linked to Sean Penn, was arrested early Saturday morning outside Avenue in New York after being charged with assault - for striking another woman in the face and pulling her hair. According to witnesses, the dispute was over a taxi. Reps for White's agency IMG deferred comment to her lawyer, who said, "The police report doesn't sound like Jessica, and she must have been provoked." [People, NY Post]

>> Good news: that July 2008 Vogue Italia? It's still resounding — and not just on the covers of other magazines. Today, one of the Vogue Italia stars, Tyra Banks, taped an episode of The Tyra Banks Show on West 26th Street in New York celebrating black models of the past and present in honor of the Vogue Italia "Black Issue." Joining her and voicing first-hand accounts of their industry experience were Chanel Iman, Beverly Johnson, Noemie Lenoir, and Pat Cleveland. I'm not usually a big fan of the show, but this episode — which airs Sept. 11 — I will have to watch.

Will Awards Season Red Carpet Dressing Finally Get More Interesting in 2011? Celebrity Stylists Think So

>> Will the impending red carpet awards season finally take things up a notch? Last year's Golden Globes saw Cathy Horyn bemoaning the "soggy n’ safe red carpet," and decreeing: "Most of the dresses last night offered little more than a paper-doll variation on styles of the past few years."

It seems that celebrity stylists agree, according to articles published in both the New York Times and WWD yesterday, and are ready to switch things up. Jeanne Yang, who has three 2011 Golden Globe nominees among her clients, told WWD: "The days of the beaded, silvery, gown-y thing are kind of done. I don't see anyone wanting that." And stylist Robert Verdi noted: "Women were so safe on the red carpet that it looked more like a Miss America contest. They were always one wave away from having a sash on.”

Stylist Jessica Paster, who pointed to Dior and Dolce & Gabbana as examples of where she sees the red carpet looks going, added: "A lot of the spring collections had vibrant, beautiful colors. Hopefully we will see a lot of that, plus softer silhouettes." In other words, out with the neutral-colored, strapless, body-hugging gowns of red carpets past.

The Times highlighted Kate Bosworth's recent Spring 2011 Jil Sander look of white tee and long green skirt and Elle Fanning's choice of Rodarte earlier this week as indicators of the tides of change. But stylists aside, maybe Christian Siriano put it best on why things are bound to change: "Everybody got so bored that nobody cares about being on the worst-dressed list. The attention span is so much shorter that even if someone does wear something over the top, everybody forgets two days later - which is bad for us designers, but good for them.”

2010 Costume Institute Gala Arrivals Have Started!

>> It's officially Costume Institute Gala time: Anna Wintour, in her requisite Chanel couture, and Bee Shaffer, in Balenciaga, are among the first to arrive. Anna is chatty, joking about the humidity's effect on her newly-blonder hair, while Bee, complaining that her feet hurt, won't talk with press. Evening co-host Oprah appears on Oscar de la Renta's arm (she's wearing a custom-made gown by the designer), to deafening cheers, and shrieked with excitement at Iman's arrival.

Jessica Alba, in Sophie Theallet for Gap, meanwhile, reportedly had trouble maneuvering in her dress - her husband Cash Warren had to practically carry her up the steps. Marc Jacobs arrives in a baseball cap - "I had a hair transplant," he explains - and doesn't stop for pictures; Lorenzo Martone, on the other hand, walks the red carpet with client Alessandra Ambrosio. And fashion week buddies Andre Leon Talley and Whoopi Goldberg appear again together tonight in matching white Chado Ralph Rucci robes.

>> The First Wave of Costume Institute Gala Intel -Gap may be sponsoring this year's Costume Institute Gala on May 3, but Patrick Robinson won't be dressing co-chair Oprah Winfrey - Oscar de la Renta is doing those honors. Instead, Robinson is focusing on other initiatives - Gap is working with past collaborators Thakoon, Rodarte, and Alexander Wang, plus Sophie Theallet, to "dress the evening's brightest stars," reports Vogue. "Expect to see guests like Natalie Portman, Jessica Alba, and M.I.A taking in the 'American Woman' exhibition in tulle-trellised and crystal-adorned creations, which will be auctioned afterward at Gap's White Space concept store to benefit the museum." Gap is also launching three shirts in May - the Heiress (and hourglass shape), the ruffled Flapper, and the draped Screen Siren - to coincide with the American Woman theme. The Word on Marc Jacobs Spring 2010

>> Marc Jacobs's Spring 2010 show is just a little over an hour away - and there's plenty of hints that have been going around. It's all front row again, according to today's The Daily, and Lorenzo Martone told The Cut it will celebrity-free: "I think Marc is really tired of the rock-and-roll thing, so it’s going to be very romantic. So: ruffles and prints and very kind of sweet.” Word a couple of days ago is that Marc was trying to convince some new faces to dye their hair black for the show, and The Imagist told us earlier today that it's supposedly not just black, but blonde, as well. As for whether the show will commence early, on-time, or late, Katie Grand "reliably" told Grazia that the lights will go down start 4 minutes late; that is, presumedly, unless Anna Wintour, who is coming from the US Open, is running late. Marc Jacobs Goes Japanese Femme, Brings Back a Couple of Celebrities for Spring 2010

>> In a show venue like the inside of a lab - white walls and floor, white benches, and bright, bright lights - which caused for a sweltering experience - Marc Jacobs sent out his theater and romance-inspired Spring 2010 collection. Anna Wintour arrived twenty minutes early from the US Open - she ended up missing Roger Federer lose - and despite rumors that the show was to be celeb-free, Madonna and Jesus Luz took their seats and Lady Gaga, arriving mid-show, stood in the photographer's pit with Lorenzo Martone. Marc later told WWD that he hadn't invited either, but Madonna called three hours before the show - "after working with her [on the Louis Vuitton campaign] I couldn't say no" - and same goes for Gaga, who is performing at Marc and V Magazine's party tonight.

Jessica Stam and Suvi Koponen both walked for the first time this Fashion Week - in fact, instead of breaking new faces as his usually does, Marc stuck mostly to the familiars: Iris Strubegger opened, Kamila Filipcikova closed. The girls had on geisha-style makeup and topknots, and there was lots of femininity - pearl embellishments, lingerie layered over suits, ruffles - and a few surprises - scrunchies and kitten keels, for instance. September 2009 Issues To Be Lighter But Blonde-Heavy

>> As is to be expected, this year's September issues are not going to be the behemoths of yesteryear: publishers are approaching their closing deadlines this week and said that they expect issues to be about a third lighter than years past.

The September issues are still anticipated to be the Fall's largest, as most advertisers withdrew their pre-collection ads that run in August to focus on September and will run fewer ads, if any, in the remaining months. As for the cover faces, magazines are sticking with safe bets - blonde white women. Vogue will feature Charlize Theron, who usually graces their October covers (in 2004 and 2007); W will, as reported, have Kate Moss photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott; Elle will boast perenially newstand-friendly Jennifer Aniston; Allure went with Amanda Seyfriend, Glamour with Jessica Simpson, and Marie Claire with Ashley Olsen.

No word on Harper's Bazaar, POP, V, LOVE, or Vogue Italia, but Vogue Paris is said to be breaking the blonde mold by dying a usually flaxen-haired model's coif black in a "radical model makeover" - some suspect the "luscious" beauty in question may be Lara Stone.
