>> The first full week of Spring brought plenty of inspiring new-season styles - and even a few surprises.

Brooklyn Decker traded in her usual low-key ensembles for a plethora of out-of-this-world designer looks: Giambattista Valli, Isabel Marant, and Stella McCartney each made appearances at photocalls for the actress's new film, Battleship. Models Miranda Kerr, Lara Stone, Candice Swanepoel, Karolina Kurkova, Agyness Deyn, Jessica White, and a newly-brunette Jessica Stam were also all spotted out and about - and though each looked just as chic as ever, it was their two very pregnant colleagues, Molly Sims and Lily Aldridge, who really stole the show.

There were also plenty of standout casual styles spotted on the streets - Elizabeth Olsen and Emma Roberts each looked effortless in transitional coat-and-trouser ensembles, and Kate Moss and Jessica Alba each sported rose-hued jeans.

However, perhaps it was Elletra Wiedemann who most aptly captured the week's prevailing mood, when at an event hosted by Vogue and Tod's. She exclaimed, "I really just wanted to dress up!"

Lily Aldridge Teases Details on Her Upcoming Wedding

>> Lily Aldridge is thought to be marrying her fiance, Kings of Leon's Caleb Followill, early next month in California. While Aldridge still won't confirm any details - "There’s something about keeping what you’re gonna wear on the big night secret from your husband and creating that special, private moment,” she says - she was giving out hints at the launch of Victoria's Secret's new Sexy Little Bride collection this morning.

“My wedding is very traditional," Alridge remarked. "I didn’t think at first I wanted that. But now that it’s getting closer, traditions are kind of once. There’s going to be really good music, wine, and good food . . . It’s going to be very small and private. I feel like a little girl; I’m so excited." As for the honeymoon? "We’re still talking about the honeymoon details. I’m just going with it - it’s my moment!”

As for the dress: "The dress is the big fantasy, and I’m very lucky because someone is making my dress. It’s so gorgeous and I’m so excited to wear it. I recently got my shoes and I was jumping up and down when I put them on."

Aldridge admits she has another model to thank for all the festivities: “[Caleb and I] met the very first time Kings of Leon played Coachella. [Jessica Stam] made it happen. She was the one who dragged me to Coachella at two in the morning. If it wasn’t for her… Lots of love connections are made at Coachella!”

Galliano Aftermath - Will Anyone Stick By the Designer? The Industry (and Natalie Portman) Comment on John Galliano's Scandal

>> The Christian Dior show will go on, but who will be there to see it? Hilary Alexander reports: "Many international buyers and press feel uneasy about attending the show, leaving Dior in the double predicament of being without a creative director, and the strong possibility of disappointing sales of a collection which many feel is now tainted by the scandal."

So is Galliano's scandal a career destroyer? Kate Moss's cocaine scandal in 2005 did not have any longterm effects on her career, her agent said last year - in fact, her earnings doubled in the five years after. Of course, Moss's scandal and Galliano's scandal broach two vastly different subjects - drugs versus racism and/or anti-Semitism. But as The New Yorker's Judith Thurman wrote yesterday: "Galliano seems to have disgraced himself (and perhaps ended his career) by delivering a drunken, anti-Semitic rant to several fellow patrons at a Paris restaurant . . . But Chanel liked Nazis, too."

So will Moss, who is said to have enlisted Galliano to do her wedding dress, stand by the designer? What about any of the rest of the industry?

We know where Christian Dior face Natalie Portman stands - last night, before Galliano was let go, she released a statement: "I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano's comments that surfaced today. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful."

After Galliano's dismissal, British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman said: "I think Galliano made a terrible mistake and such offensive behaviour could not be ignored. It is all the same true that he has a huge talent and has contributed enormously to the resurrection of the house of Dior. Who can predict what the future will bring?"

Jessica Stam tweeted: "I'll miss you John, you're so talented. I love the Jews and what he said is awful, but also sad to watch him leave Dior." And Chanel Iman said this morning: "I love John Galliano. I’ve been working with him for years and he is one of the most amazing, genius men in this business. He is one of the most creative, genius designers that I’ve worked with and he’s so open to all types of people. He’s loving and he’s caring and I wish him all the best."

But before this morning's announcement that Galliano was fired, many other industry folk spoke out on the scandal.

Stefano Gabbana tweeted last Saturday (pre video release): "I'm so sorry for John Galliano!!!"

Franca Sozzani, said on camera last Friday (pre video release): "I'm so against anyone who could say something anti-Semitic or against any religion. I understand that [Galliano] was drunk. I can understand, for sure, because he's not a bad guy. But I do not accept that anyone can touch the religion of someone else . . . either you fire or you keep [him], I don't see anything in between . . . [Dior without Galliano] would be a real pity . . . I wasn't there, you weren't there, nobody was there, so who knows the truth. But you know . . . it's John Galliano, it's very easy to say he said something like that, because it's doing a big mess. If he was no one, nobody could tell about him, so we are to be suspicious about that. If it's really true, if it really went as they're describing, it's terrible news for [not only Galliano but] the human being."

Roberto Cavalli, on camera last Saturday (pre video release): "I don't believe [it]. Because I know John since many years, he's such a wonderful person. I can't believe that he makes some racist [comments] toward somebody, because he's so international . . . I think that somebody wants to try to be bad with him. I think la Maison Dior should make [for] him [a] big red carpet because he helped Maison Dior to be what it is today. I don't want to judge anybody, but I love John and John, I am with you."

Giorgio Armani, on camera Monday: "I'm very very sorry for him. It's obviously a difficult time for him. I am also very sorry that they videotaped him without him knowing."

Olivier Zahm wrote last Saturday (pre video release): "I know that you [Galliano] are not at all racist -whatever you said, drunk or not, to them! Your multi-ethnic shows, celebrating the beauty of nomadic worlds, and looking into visual languages of forgotten minorities (from everywhere on this planet), has brilliantly proved it to everyone from collection to collection since years. We are living in a dark world where the fashion system can celebrate talented people like you, use them as long as they want and fire them from a day to the next - exploiting an unfortunate private incident (and thusfar unproved anti-Semitic allegations), to get rid of an artist. Letting the international media suspect that you could be a racist, is not acceptable!"

And Hilary Alexander wrote yesterday: "What devils possessed Galliano we may never know. What private hell he is living through is equally unknowable. But one thing is certain: he needs help. I am not for a moment excusing his behaviour. There will come a time when he must confront the viper in his breast. But, right now, this is a moment in his life when he needs support and love from the industry he has given his life to."

Rag & Bone Earn Their Stripes with Their Fall 2011 Arctic Ski-Inspired Collection

>> For the second Fall season in a row, the Rag & Bone boys have created a lot of want in the ten some-odd minutes it takes for their run of show. The futuristic bent that was introduced in their Spring 2011 collection stayed, but this time worked its way into a number of the Rag & Bone staples - cropped fitted jackets, kilts, knee socks, and cape coats. This was mashed together with a newfound fascination with texture: cow hides, nubby knits, neoprenes, shearlings, wools, and fringes were all represented.

As Marcus Wainwright noted backstage, "It started with Inuit people - the indigenous people of the Arctic circle - and on the other side of it, there was a French skiier called Jean-Claude Killy - so '70s ski - and it just went from there." As for the brilliant blue that was used so liberally in the second half of the show - where did that come from? "In looking at all of these pictures of the Arctic and the snow and the sky bounced against it," Wainwright explained, "that unbelievable blue - Klein Blue - that kind of blue of the sky, was just amazing against the ivory and the grey of the beginning [of the show]. It's a fun color."

The cool Rag & Bone girl was well-accounted-for as usual, both front row (Erin Wasson, Jessica Stam, and Alexa Chung), and on the catwalk (Bette Franke, making a runway return after taking a season off, Arizona Muse, Joan Smalls, Fei Fei Sun, Saskia de Brauw, and Britt Maren). Boots tended to be thigh-high and low-heeled. As for the clutches, which were strapped to the models' hands by glove-like contraptions, leaving their fingers free - would those be put into production? "It may well do if people like them," Wainwright answered. "I don't know. We just did it just for the show, we always do those things ourselves, but yeah, probably." He and Neville had both cracked open Peroni beers immediately post-show, while their children ran around backstage. So what's the plan now that the show is finished? "I have had one beer," Wainwright replied. "I'm going to have a few more. I feel pretty good about it. I was excited about the music [done by Thom Yorke], and it's good."

The Costume Institute received a donation of $10 million from Jonathan and Lizzie Tisch to create a new gallery space; although this gift was the "tipping point" to start construction next year, fundraising for the project started several years ago and has been helped in large part by Anna Wintour and the Costume Institute Gala benefit [NY Times]

>> Victoria's Secret models are all over fashion editorials and campaigns these days - Models.com suspects Candice Swanepoel might be next to cross over - and no wonder, with 10 and Harper's Bazaar editor Sophia Neophitou as show stylist. As Neophitou told Style.com of casting the show: “It’s such an editorial level . . . We looked at girls we love to shoot editorially; that’s what great. I think there’s a perception before you get here of what will work. But the reality is, it’s about the girl, it’s about the woman, what she brings as a human being to it, rather than has she got a size 34C cup. No, it’s not about that at all. That’s what they’ve got the miracle bras for.”

Brazilians were heavily favored as usual this year, with Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Isabeli Fontana, Izabel Goulart, Flavia Oliveira, Lais Ribeiro, Fabiana Semprebom, Emanuela de Paula, Gracie Carvalho, and Martha Streck all representing; 10 Brazilians out of the 33 total models. 2010 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Casting Video; Plus - Who's Confirmed So Far (Karolina Kurkova Is!)

>> With the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show taping a week away, fittings are well under way - Alessandra Ambrosio, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Behati Prinsloo were snapped going to theirs yesterday, and Chanel Iman was there, too. She tweeted yesterday: "All day prep for Victoria Secret Show and most exciting FITTING!!! Keeping everything a Secret!!SSSSHHHH......!! ;)" Today, Lily Aldridge was on deck, and Izabel Goulart, too, has stopped in - apparently she's getting wings this year, and cried at her fitting when she found out.

A video of the show's castings has popped up (above) - hopefuls Hana Soukupova and Shannan Click are among those shown - and Monica Mitro, who has been casting the show for 16 years, since its inception, says, "It's really difficult because we see a lot of great girls … they come in here in their bras and panties, and normally that's not the way castings go, but we have to see how everything looks together … they literally have to be perfect."

Those deemed perfect so far? Besides those mentioned above, Flavia de Oliveira, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Liu Wen, Anja Rubik, Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, Erin Heatherton, Isabeli Fontana, Lindsay Ellingson, Jessica Stam, Emanuela de Paula, Maryna Linchuk, Magdalena Frackowiak, Edita Vilkeviciute, and as rumored, Karolina Kurkova, are all expected.

Karolina Kurkova May Be Back on the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Runway This Year

>> Karolina Kurkova hasn't been in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show since 2008, when she was ending her run as an Angel. But it sounds like she might be back onstage this year - she, along with girls like Jourdan Dunn, Jessica Stam, Caroline Trentini, Lais Ribeiro, and Lily Donaldson, were among those brought in for final casting callbacks for this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which tapes on Nov. 10. It's not unheard of for a former Angel to appear in the show again - Izabel Goulart, who was an Angel from 2005 to 2008, walked in last year's show (at the time, Kurkova had just given birth). [TFS]
