Abbey Lee Kershaw Fronts the New Gucci, Jerry Hall Returns to the Catwalk, and Kate Moss Is Not Into Twitter

Abbey Lee Kershaw is the face of a new set of Gucci fragrances. The fragrances launch this March and all have names that start with "G" - Gorgeous Gardenia, Gracious Tuberose, Glamorous Magnolia, Generous Violet, Glorious Mandarin - "because of Gucci, of course," explains the brand's creative director, Frida Giannini. Jerry Hall returned to the catwalk this week to walk Jean Luc Amsler's couture show in Paris. The 55-year-old wasn't the only older model to grace the couture runways; Yasmin Le Bon, 47, walked Stéphane Rolland's show wearing a 110-pound dress. [Telegraph]

Karl Lagerfeld Chooses Kristen McMenamy As Bride for Chanel's Spring 2011 Couture Collection

>> Chanel's current ad campaign spans three generations, and at the brand's couture show today, Karl Lagerfeld highlighted the idea that Chanel is for any age, tapping 40-year-old Stella Tennant to open the show and 45-year-old Kristen McMenamy to close. VIPs galore filled the front row: Kirsten Dunst, Ines de la Fressange, Pedro Almodovar, Karen Elson, Alexa Chung, Daphne Guinness, Diane Kruger, Vanessa Paradis, and Jerry Hall, plus Baptiste Giabiconi, who, for once, didn't walk the Chanel runway. As previewed yesterday, the collection was filled with black patent mule flats and tunic dresses over skinny pants, and at the end, Lagerfeld, joined by his bride McMenamy in a dress fitted with an embroidered train of thousands of gold beads, blew the audience a kiss.

Georgia May Jagger Explains Why She Models Jeans, How Her Parents Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger Feel About Her Going Topless

>> Hedi Slimane first met Georgia May Jagger at Fourchette, her father Mick Jagger's French residence in 2007, where he photographed her. The two have reteamed for Harper's Bazaar's November 2010 issue, for which Slimane filmed and photographed Georgia in New York - where she recently moved - in September. Slimane set the film (above) to a soundtrack from British band Egyptian Hip Hop, because he "want[s] more people to be aware of their music" and because "the band is precisely Georgia's age, and generation." The film, according to Slimane, is "meant to also be evocative of the glamorous heritage of Georgia M. Jagger, [and her parents] Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall['s] legacy."

Slimane captures Georgia topless - not something new for the model, who has more than a few discreetly topless ads for Hudson Jeans floating around. She says her parents don't mind. "My mum did a lot of very provocative work with Helmut Newton. She understands. It is pretty crazy, though. I didn't think that it was going to be on giant billboards everywhere. I'm sort of like, Oh, God!"

She likes modeling jeans, though: "When Mum was first modeling, it was all about that Thierry Mugler woman with the tiny waist and the giant ass. They used to pad their hips. I think it's much sexier. Lizzy [Jagger, her sister] and my dad are naturally skinny. I model jeans. You need a bum for those."

But despite the leniency when it comes to toplessness, Jagger says of Hall: "My mum is actually really wholesome. She remembers everything because she didn't take drugs like everyone else. She'll see a black-and-white picture taken 40 years ago and say, ‘I was wearing a red dress and gold eye shadow.' It's incredible." Also: "My mum hasn't been to New York for so long, but she used to live there in the '80s. So when she found out I was moving to Alphabet City, she freaked out."

And as for her father, Mick: "My dad's not a very intimidating father figure." Georgia has been dating Django James Stewart, the musician son of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, for the last two years. "Our parents know each other," she adds. "My dad's cool with that kind of stuff."

Marc Jacobs Sings Backup for Donna Summer, Talks Hair Transplant at Louis Vuitton Store Opening

>> Marc Jacobs has taken the stage for many a reason in the past - usually it involves accepting an award - but last night, it was to sing backup to Donna Summer at the opening of Louis Vuitton's new store on Bond Street in London. “It was fun - but I think I’ll stick to my day job,” he quipped.

Jacobs celebrated with the likes of Stella Tennant, Bernard Arnault, Carine Roitfeld, and Natalia Vodianova, and opened up about his recent hair transplant, which had him avoiding press and cameras at the Costume Institute Gala earlier this month. "I was starting to thin on top. I can’t dye it for a while, so this is my natural colour.”

He also hinted that the Louis Vuitton logo that he has helped make so ubiquitous almost got squelched way back when he first started at the brand: "When I arrived at Louis Vuitton 12 years ago, and I was figuring out how to create a new tier of Vuitton for a different customer, I thought it would be clever to hide that monogram, which was very stupid of me. That logo is part of what makes the Vuitton so desirable. It allows people to become members of an aspirational club."

Logos are to be expected, but not Louis Vuitton couture - Jacobs says he has no desire to launch such a collection. “Some of what we already do at ready-to-wear is pretty much at couture level, anyway."

Spills and Thrills at the 2009 British Fashion Awards

>> Last night's British Fashion Awards provided a forum for all kinds of announcements - Christopher Bailey, who accepted both BFC Designer Brand of the Year for Burberry and BFC Designer of the Year, confirmed that Burberry will show in London again for Fall 2010; and Victoria Beckham said she's planning to take an active role in the BFC that in which she would mentor young designers or serve as an ambassador.

Christopher Kane was awarded BFC British Collection of the Year, Kate Moss won the publicly-voted London 25 Award, Peter Pilotto nabbed the Swarovski Emerging Talent Award for Ready-to-wear, and Georgia May Jagger took the BFC Model of the Year award - "Thank you so much to the BFC for picking me. I'd just like to say [fellow nominees] Daisy [Lowe] and Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] are amazing girls and amazing models. Thanks to my mum for being the biggest inspiration."

But the model who really stole the night was Karen Elson, who, when onstage to present Grace Coddington with the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, walked straight into the orchestra pit and fell four feet out of sight. She emerged minutes later, ”I am the clumsiest person on this earth. I cannot believe I just did that. That is the worst fall I have ever had. I might have broken a rib, but I’m fine.” After presenting, she took to the emergency room to see about her injuries - including a sprained thumb.

>> The heyday hasn't slowed down for models pushing forty this season - Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington - and now a couple of fifty-something models are issuing something of a comeback. First, 51-year-old Ines de la Fressange took the Jean Paul Gaultier couture runway a couple of weeks ago, and now 52-year-old Jerry Hall is mugging for (and replacing Christy Turlington in) Chanel's handbag campaign, along with Baptiste Giabiconi, who seems to have replaced Brad Kroenig as Karl Lagerfeld's male model of choice.

Karl picked Jerry to shoot because, as "Oscar Wilde said, 'I like men who have a future, and women who have a past.' It is this whole idea of seduction that is summarised here that appeals to me. One of a very young man fascinated and attracted by what a woman does: her wardrobe, her perfume, her movements, her allure, etc." And to imagine, he's known Jerry since she was 15 . . .

Jerry Hall for Chanel, Sasha Pivovarova too?

>> There's still no word on who is doing the honors for Chanel's mainline Spring 2009 ad campaign that was shot at Karl Lagerfeld's house in Vermont, but some peripheral roles have been handed out. Jerry Hall will take over Chanel handbag duties from Christy Turlington in a new campaign inspired by Colette's Cheri, the novel exploring the affair between a woman and a much younger man, which is coincidentially also an upcoming film by The Queen's Stephen Frears.

And those who are hoping Sasha Pivovarova will nab the Chanel Spring 2009 campaign, there's still hope. She's definitely still a Karl favorite - he shot the Pre-Fall Paris-Moscow collection on her in Paris a couple of weeks ago - lookbook or campaign, it's undetermined - and then she wore Chanel couture to the Vogue China Icons ceremony in Beijing on Saturday (above).

Models Get Their Due at 2009 Costume Institute Gala

>> Hints at the 2009 Costume Institute Gala theme have been swirling since May - first, it was thought to be an ode to Marc Jacobs, and then an ode to fashion muses. Now that the official announcement has come out, we learn that both subjects are involved, just not quite in the way that was originally thought: the May 4 gala rings in "The Model as Muse," with Marc Jacobs as honorary chair, and Kate Moss, Anna Wintour, and Justin Timberlake as co-chairs.

The accompanying exhibit, which runs May 6 to Aug. 9, will explore the evolution of models and "their roles in projecting and sometimes inspiring the fashion of their respective eras," with special focus on one of the first publicly known models, Marion Morehouse; the first supermodel, Lisa Fonssagrives; fifties mannequins Suzy Parker, Dovima, Sunny Harnett, and Dorian Leigh; sixties icons Jean Shrimpton, Moffitt, Twiggy, and Veruschka; Seventies faces Jerry Hall, Iman, and Janice Dickinson; the supermodel trinity of Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, and Naomi Campbell; Nineties “It” girls Kate Moss, Amber Valletta, Nadja Auermann, and Shalom Harlow; and more recently, Gisele Bundchen.

As Harold Koda, curator of the Costume Institute, explained: "We look at the power of clothing, fashion photography and the model to project the look of an era. With a mere gesture, or the line of her body, a truly stellar model can sum up the attitude of her time, creating an alluring synergy between herself and the clothing to communicate a designer’s message to the wider world."

Seventy haute couture and ready-to-wear looks, plus photography, runway images, and video footage of models, rock stars, socialites and actresses who set the tone for each era will emphasize the theme, but most exciting of all - think of all the models who will be representing at the gala.
