>> Deepin the Okavango Delta of Botswana, photographer Peter Beard directed Mariacarla Boscono and Malgosia Bela to "show me fun" as they mucked through an algae-covered swamp in May. "Does it feel nice?" he asked Malgosia, who was submerged up to her waist in the goo. "It's nice," she replied, bringing her green hands up to her face.
The finished product — the 2009 Pirelli calendar — debuted yesterday, and you can see the whole thing here (NSFW), but it didn't come without the model cast (Rianne Ten Haken, Isabeli Fontana, Kemp Muhl, Daria Werbowy, Lara Stone, and Emanuela de Paula in addition to Mariacarla and Malgosia) going out on a limb — literally: one shot features a number of them posing nude way up in a bare tree. And they weren't always so comfortable — a big bug was placed on Isabeli's face, and though Peter directs, "Eyes open! Eyes open!" she visibly flinches, "I can't."
>> After weeks of speculation, we got our answers. As rumored, Izabel Goulart is no longer a Victoria's Secret Angel — there is speculation that she broke her contract to work for Emporio Armani and Armani Exchange — but she, along with the Angels and 26 other non-Angel models, taped the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Miami on Saturday. There were a few casting surprises — no Asian models?; some disappointments — no Natasha Poly or Jessica Stam; and lots of newcomers — Arlenis Sosa Pena, Sarah Stephens, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Sessilee Lopez, Clara Alonso, Edita Vilkeviciute, Erin Heatherton, and even Lara Stone made it after all. Broken glass catwalk aside, Maryna Linchuk had a stellar outing — many have their bets on a Angel contract for her in the future — and Doutzen Kroes cozied up to boyfriend DJ Ruckus at the after-party. All in all, enough party to hold us over until the show airs Dec. 3. *image: source, source
>> A little show of skin here, a little handbag there . . . that's what Versace's Fall 2008 ads are made of. Shot in Manhattan by Mario Testino, the images portray Natalia Vodianova and Isabeli Fontana flaunting color-coordinating outfits . . . that is, when they're wearing clothes. The set is pretty typical glossy Versace, but I do like the up-close-and-personal handbag shots. *image: source
>> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —When it pours, it really pours. Another first look among the deluge of Fall 2008 ads popping up today: Isabeli Fontana for Versace, sans her campaign partner Natalia Vodianova. This first shot is very Testino-blah indeed, and interestingly, still flashing those suspiciously Louboutin-like red soles just like last season. [Women Management Blog]
>> I don't know what's changed with Frankie Rayder's life lately, but I do know one thing: She's back. Not only is she being lensed for an unnamed September "extravaganza of an editorial," she's also popped up in two major Fall campaigns.
She joins Kate Moss in headlining Stella McCartney's Fall 2008 campaign, shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin at Kate's country house in Gloucestershire, England. Meanwhile, she replaces Kate, who was Roberto Cavalli's Spring 2008 campaign girl, in the Cavalli Fall 2008 ads along with Angela Lindvall, Raquel Zimmermann, and Isabeli Fontana.
Maybe we owe the pleasure of seeing Frankie again to Inez and Vinoodh? They also did the Cavalli campaign . . . We'll know for sure if they photographed this mysterious September editorial in which Frankie has been cast. *image: source, source
>> Just a couple of days after we got a first look at the making of the 2009 Pirelli calendar (NSFW), more footage from the shoot in Botswana has appeared, complete with the girls riding around on elephants, jumping off elephants into water, and writhing around in the mud. There is even a preview shot of Daria Werbowy included.
Accompanying the video are interviews with photographer Peter Beard and Lara Stone — all in Italian — but when the narrator introduces Lara Stone, she mentions that Lara is thinking about retiring. Nothing for sure, but surprising, considering how much of a following she has in Carine Roitfeld and at W.
>> Last month, seven models made the trek to a luxury elephant camp in the Okavango Delta of Botswana to shoot the 2009 Pirelli calendar.
Mariacarla Boscono, Malgosia Bela, Daria Werbowy, Lara Stone, Emanuela De Paula, and Isabeli Fontana mucked around in the mud, waded in the marsh, and climbed trees, sporting little but a square of leather here, a string of beads there, while Peter Beard documented the whole thing.
The calendar won't come out until later this year, but until then, a look at the behind-the-scenes shots and retro photographs that will be interspersed between (NSFW). *images: source
>> Earlier today we got a look atIsabeli Fontana in the Fall Cavalli campaign, and now we've got a small peek another one of her Fall works. Introducing Alessandra Facchinetti's first Valentino ads, featuring Angela Lindvall along with Isabeli and shot by Peter Lindbergh in Paris. I'm not sure why you would release an image if you're going to require it to be this small, but hey, something is always better than nothing, right?
The idea was to "emphasize Valentino's ties with Paris," according to Facchinetti, and the ads are presented in a "groupage," or a number of images photographed to run together and tell a story. Expect a mix of color and black and white, studio and location shots, set to debut in July fashion issues — maybe we'll be able to make out what's going on in the pictures by then.
fashionologie is the musings of a twenty-something American girl who wishes she could have a Freaky Friday incident and switch bodies with Carine Roitfeld.
