Alber Elbaz Pulls Out the Stops at Lanvin for H&M Fashion Show

>> Alber Elbaz and the Lanvin team descended on New York's Pierre Hotel Thursday evening, transforming it with palm fronds, caged parakeets, models in French maid outfits, and little old men offering up champagne, scotch, crustless tea sandwiches, and macaroons, to show off their H&M collaboration.

At the runway's entrance, a rose-filled arch set with "Lanvin Hearts H&M" in fluorescent lights; to the side of that, a salsa band played live music. And above the runway, there were 20 crystal chandeliers. The venue was packed, to say the least - Sofia Coppola, Patrick Demarchelier, Shala Monroque, Sally Singer, and Grace Coddington were all there, plus more than a handful of other designers sitting front row: Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, Tory Burch, Alexander Wang, Anna Sui.

Katie Grand styled the show - and the models were told to engage with the audience - so Siri Tollerod, as veiled bride, tossed her bouquet; Pixie Geldof strutted down in her gender-bending suit; Anna Dello Russo, walked with a gray standard poodle at her side; and Julia Frakes made her runway debut. The clothes were couture riffs on the Lanvin for H&M collection - on sale to benefit Unicef now - but afterward, there was a frenzy for the Lanvin for H&M collection pop-up shop set up downstairs. Many editors walked away with multiple bags, Coppola bought the tulle jacket, and even Wang did a little shopping of his own.

A First Look at Four Lanvin For H&M Dresses

>> H&M has finally had enough with the no-clothes teasing of its upcoming Lanvin collaboration and released a first look at the collection. The campaign, shot by David Sims and styled by Camille Bidault Waddington, shows Hannelore Knuts, Jane Schmitt, Tati Cotliar, and Natasha Poly, from left to right, in dresses that hark back to past Lanvin runway collections. The full, highly anticipated collection will be revealed Nov. 2 in a short film on H&M's website and hits stores Nov. 23.

Paul Rowland Snaps 19 Models for Witchy 96-Page V Supplement

>> The 96-page September issue insert The Imagist teased back in June turned out to be for V: Paul Rowland, founder of Women and Supreme agencies, photographed 19 of his models in studio back in April with help from stylist Nicholas Grasa. His inspirations were "Joel-Peter Witkin, paganism, mysticism, vampires, witches - all the things I love," and V has a video of the shoot in action, which required Hannelore Knuts to have raw meat draped over her chest and the rope holding it together lit on fire on both ends. The supplement will be available with V61 in select cities.

Maybe this whole project is the start of a move into a new arena for Rowland? As V puts it: "Rowland, whose lavish and intricate agency show packages are the talk of the industry each season, has a creative verve that extends beyond model agency moving and shaking, and into photography and fine art. After this outing, however, he might need his own magazine as well."

Fall 2009: Not Just for 15-Year-Old Models

>> New York Fashion Week is known as the springboard for new faces every season, but for Fall 2009, it's become the springboard for comebacks - especially with models right around the 30-year-old mark. This morning, Frankie Rayder (34), who hasn't hit a catwalk since the Fall 2004 with the exception of Spring 2009 Givenchy, walked Michael Kors. The runways of Preen, Rodarte, Alexander Wang, and Marc Jacobs have been especially overrun with these mainly late-'90s, early-00's faces - from those who have hovered in and out the past few seasons: Anne Catherine Lacroix (29), Natasa Vojnovic (29), Caroline Ribeiro (29), Jamie Bochert (28), Christina Kruse (34), Carmen Kass (30), Colette Pechekhonova (28), Hannelore Knuts (31); to those who have exited the runway for a while - Tasha Tilberg (29), Kirsten Owen (38), Trish Goff (32) - all are booking some of the most coveted spots this season. Kors, Behnaz Sarafpour, Staerk, VPL, and Diane von Furstenberg are feeling it too - the mature woman is back in New York.

A Few Thoughts About Alexander Wang Fall 2009

>> The line to get into the Roseland Ballroom, where Alexander Wang showed his Fall 2009 collection, went down the entire block and around the corner - it stayed this way for a good half an hour or so after the show was scheduled to start . . . This season brought in the attendance of Alex's first big celebrity front row - Sarah Jessica Parker; also in attendance were Diane von Furstenberg, Patrick Robinson, and Philip Green of Topshop, the latter sparking some questions. Green said Anna Wintour had just suggested that he come check the show out . . . Wang's obsession with Hooters continues - they provided the backstage catering . . . Alex wrote a sign backstage for the models promising "tequila shots for those who don't fall!!!" . . . Fur was worked into his collection for the first time . . . Anna Wintour brought Bee Shaffer along for the first time (lots of firsts); usually she just comes to Proenza Schouler and Marc Jacobs. Does that mean Alex has moved up into Proenza and Marc territory in Anna's eyes? . . . Among the model cast were a few '90s and early '00s faces - Trish Goff (who's also supposed to walk Preen tomorrow), Tasha Tilberg, Natasa Vojnovic, Christina Kruse, and Hannelore Knuts - runway comebacks in the works?

The Full Lanvin for H&M Lookbook, Complete with Prices and the Full Ad Campaign

>> Last night, Alber Elbaz pronounced: "Some days I feel like a piano: kind of short, always in black & white, always expected to produce music." And produce music he did when it comes to his Lanvin Hearts H&M collection, which is in stores on Nov. 20. The collection runs the gamut from $9.95 for lipstick to $349 for a coat, with shoes, sunglasses, and of course, plenty of dresses, in between. In the gallery, we've got Irina Lazareanu in the lookbook; Natasha Poly, Hannelore Knuts, Tati Cotliar, Jane Schmitt, and Garance Dumont in the full ad campaign; plus individual images and prices for each of the 48 women's items in the collection.

Marc Jacobs Fall 2009: Supposedly Lots of Neon and Big Shoulders

>> That's what we're hearing . . . (3 hours! Or maybe four, if he's back to his old, late ways.)

As far as cast: supposedly Du Juan, Hannelore Knuts, Olga Sherer, Elsa Sylvan, Jessica Stam, Chanel Iman, Natasha Poly, Karolin Wolter, Snejana Onopka, and "Eliza" (which could only be Eliza Cummings) are all backstage; for the runthrough the models all have different hairstyles.

UPDATE: The 65 models walking were called 5 hours before the show because all require a different beauty look; the hair is inspired by the DIY look of club kids, the makeup punky Sprouse, and the look is so transforming Marc had to ask Jessica Stam if it was really her under everything.
