Muse Like Jagger: Georgia May's Style Evolution

She may be Madonna's latest Material Girl, but Georgia May Jagger has always been one of the coolest girls around. With model-mom Jerry Hall's stunning bone structure and dad Mick's iconic gap-toothed pout - not to mention both parents' rock 'n' roll vibe - the 5'7" progeny-turned-muse has already been featured in scores of magazines, from American Vogue to i-D. She's also been photographed by the likes of Mario Sorrenti and Hedi Slimane, fronted major campaigns for Chanel and Versace, and has long-standing contracts with Hudson Jeans and Rimmel London.

"To be handpicked by Madonna and Lola as the new face of Material Girl is truly amazing," Jagger said of her latest endeavor, the back-to-school campaign for junior line Material Girl, which bows this Summer. "My agent received a call from the Material Girl team saying Lola and Madonna wanted to work together with me. From talking with Lola, she and her mum liked my style and thought it would be a good fit," Jagger elaborated. "I've always admired Madonna's style and I'm thrilled to be working with her and Lola. I dressed up like her for a school dance once!"

>> Talk about fashion royalty. Everyone from designers Karl Lagerfeld to Georgia May Jagger got shot for the Spring issue of i-D magazine. Its theme is Fashion Royalty, and when it hits newsstands today, buyers will have nine cover options to choose from.

Lagerfeld's straightforward and direct cover is simple and shows the designer wearing an eyepatch, while covers featuring Shalom Harlow, Guinevere van Seenus, and Carolyn Murphy capture the ethereal beauty of Daniele Duella and Iango Henzi's team photography. There's even a slightly overexposed photo of Vivienne Westwood removing a false eyelash. This collection of covers has something for everyone.

Georgia May Jagger Explains Why She Models Jeans, How Her Parents Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger Feel About Her Going Topless

>> Hedi Slimane first met Georgia May Jagger at Fourchette, her father Mick Jagger's French residence in 2007, where he photographed her. The two have reteamed for Harper's Bazaar's November 2010 issue, for which Slimane filmed and photographed Georgia in New York - where she recently moved - in September. Slimane set the film (above) to a soundtrack from British band Egyptian Hip Hop, because he "want[s] more people to be aware of their music" and because "the band is precisely Georgia's age, and generation." The film, according to Slimane, is "meant to also be evocative of the glamorous heritage of Georgia M. Jagger, [and her parents] Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall['s] legacy."

Slimane captures Georgia topless - not something new for the model, who has more than a few discreetly topless ads for Hudson Jeans floating around. She says her parents don't mind. "My mum did a lot of very provocative work with Helmut Newton. She understands. It is pretty crazy, though. I didn't think that it was going to be on giant billboards everywhere. I'm sort of like, Oh, God!"

She likes modeling jeans, though: "When Mum was first modeling, it was all about that Thierry Mugler woman with the tiny waist and the giant ass. They used to pad their hips. I think it's much sexier. Lizzy [Jagger, her sister] and my dad are naturally skinny. I model jeans. You need a bum for those."

But despite the leniency when it comes to toplessness, Jagger says of Hall: "My mum is actually really wholesome. She remembers everything because she didn't take drugs like everyone else. She'll see a black-and-white picture taken 40 years ago and say, ‘I was wearing a red dress and gold eye shadow.' It's incredible." Also: "My mum hasn't been to New York for so long, but she used to live there in the '80s. So when she found out I was moving to Alphabet City, she freaked out."

And as for her father, Mick: "My dad's not a very intimidating father figure." Georgia has been dating Django James Stewart, the musician son of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, for the last two years. "Our parents know each other," she adds. "My dad's cool with that kind of stuff."

Georgia May Jagger Designs For Hudson Jeans, Is Moving to Manhattan

>> Georgia May Jagger has been starring in Hudson Jeans ad campaigns for the past year, and now, the model is set to debut her first-ever designing endeavor for the brand: a 20-piece denim collection priced from $180 to $350. "I’m really surprised that so early in my career they allowed me to do this dream, design my own stuff," May Jagger told WWD. "The Hudson people approached me about doing the line. They asked me to get my inspirations together. I got a bunch of pictures and vintage jeans of my mom’s, and I did some sketches - I do art, so they weren’t that bad, but they weren’t amazing [laughs]. I wrote a lot of details and notes on them. My jeans are a totally different cut than the usual Hudson jeans. It’s a stretch denim and a higher cut on the hip, which I like because I’m a bit shorter, so I like that elongated leg thing."

A Peek at the Fashion Spreads Inside W's September 2010 Issue

>> W's publisher Nina Lawrence introduced the latest iteration of the magazine - under Stefano Tonchi's guidance - as one with more international slant, a magazine "younger and more sophisticated as far as voice."

In addition to a plethora of ads - Tonchi has to prove he can sell the magazine, after all - the issue includes a closeup of Lindsey Wixson's lips; a story exploring designers suddenly liking curves, because, according to Tonchi "it is not really true - [the designers] just love women with breasts"; a spread with Georgia May Jagger; a portfolio Tim Walker submitted of young people from his neighborhood in East London; and a profile of Riccardo Tisci.

The issue hits newsstands nationally on Aug. 24, and the magazine's website is getting a "facelift" the first week of September. Because the magazine is procured with a global outlook, there are no international editions in its future, a la Vogue, according to Lawrence, but there could be regional sections for Italy, France, and the like (assuming all goes well).

Tonchi said the October cover was shot last Saturday, but no further hints were given . . . although Lynn Hirschberg, who has a hand in the cover choices, according to Lawrence, did say that they are trying to get away from the uniformity and sameness of cover choices - "although we may end up in that arena [eventually], it's nice to be in the newness, to register in a different way [for now]."

Chanel's Cruise 2011 Show Involved Motorboats, a Motorcycle, and Crystal Renn

>> Set on the French Riviera in Saint Tropez with the models arriving on motorboats from a yacht in the harbor, Chanel's Cruise 2011 show reflected the '70s throwback party atmosphere emulated in Karl Lagerfeld's short film shown last night. Natasha Poly opened barefoot in a pastel print dress, and Karolina Kurkova and Abbey Lee Kershaw danced down the runway in knits. Toni Garrn and Jacquetta Wheeler made runway returns, and Crystal Renn, riding the current "plus size model" wave, made a cameo.

For the finale, front rowers like Anna Mougalis, Carine Roitfeld, Andre Leon Talley in a green cape, Emmanuelle Alt, Diane Kruger, Vanessa Paradis, and Franca Sozzani witnessed Lagerfeld's bodyguard Sebastien Jondeau pulling up on a motorcycle (which temporarily stalled) with Georgia May Jagger on the back. Then, appropriately, to a Rolling Stones soundtrack, Lagerfeld appeared in a purple jacket for his bow - and Abbey Lee threw her arm around Karl's shoulder.
