Bubblegum Hues and Rah Rah Skirts at Swaim and Christina Hutson's Fall 2010 Generra

There was little of their editorially-loved Obedient Sons and Daughters in Swaim and Christina Hutson's fall 2010 collection for Generra. Rather than stick with old tricks, the husband and wife team turned out a youthful and energetic explosion of color.

For her there were chunky turtlenecks, rah rah skirts, flared dresses, and cropped faux fur jackets, while his collection was heavy on puffer coats, rolled trousers, and knit sweaters-all presented in tonal color combinations of pink on pink, blue on blue, and green on purple.

"We wanted to keep it light and happy, and we knew color should be part of that formula," Christina told us after the show when speaking about revitalizing the popular Eighties brand know for their Hypercolor, heat-sensitive tee shirts. There were also bright prints, which were inspired by the background scenes in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, hence the blurred floral and forest patterns favored by Swaim in the head-to-toe suit look which closed the show.

Of their future with Generra, one can expect a lot more where fall came from, as creative director Swaim explained, "this isn't the end of (color), you'll see it going forward, too. This is where we see the brand."

New additions to the New York Fashion Week schedule: Prabal Gurung and Simon Spurr of Spurr will stage runway shows rather than informal presentations for fall 2010.

Agyness Deyn will model the Paule Ka collection for La Redoute in spring advertisements.

New Vintage II, the environmentally-conscious capsule collection by Yves Saint Laurent, is now available in YSL stores.

Swaim and Christian Hutson will spend their second season at Generra, presenting the men's and women's collections during NYFW in February. The couple says the women's debut will have a "late Seventies look, with the energy of Fiorucci.

Designer Appointments: Swaim Hutson To Generra, Peter Som May Be Heading to Tommy Hilfiger

>> Tommy Hilfiger, who has been searching for a creative director as far back as 2007, may have his eye on Peter Som. Although neither Som nor Hilfiger would comment, WWD cites sources saying that they have been in discussions about Som joining Hilfiger as a creative consultant - a position which could ultimately lead to a wider role, perhaps as that creative director Tommy was looking for. Fashion Week Daily reports that insiders expect an announcement of the partnership after the end of New York Fashion Week on Sept. 17.

Speaking of creative consultants becoming creative directors, Swaim Hutson, who was a consultant on Generra's Spring 2010 collection, has been appointed as the contemporary brand's creative director: "Generra has a chance and a voice to be more directional within the designer contemporary market, and this is exactly what I hope to bring to the brand.” Turns out Swaim - who is not showing the Hutson line he designs with wife Christina Hutson during New York Fashion Week this season - will have his work on a New York catwalk, after all: Generra is presenting its Spring 2010 collection on Sept. 11.
