Versace's Moody Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

Versace kicks off Fall 2012 campaign season early with a moody black-and-white spread photographed by famed fashion image-makers Mert & Marcus. Starring Dutch newbie Elza Luijendijk - her debut season was just this past Fall 2012 - the five-page outing was styled by Joe McKenna and David Bradshaw, and also features male models Philipp Schmidt, Dmitriy Tanner, and Kaccey Carrig. "I'm really thrilled with our new campaign," Donatella Versace said. "The result is bold, strong, iconic and perfectly conveys the sexy rock vibe of our Fall/Winter collection."

Rihanna's second collection for Emporio Armani has been revealed - or at least the sketches of it have. The collection will include tartan-trimmed denim shorts and a distressed denim jumpsuit. "She captures the young and contemporary essence of Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans perfectly," said Giorgio Armani. [Fashion Etc.]
Carine Roitfeld is putting together a staff for her new magazine, CR Fashion Book. So far, she's hired former Teen Vogue accessories director Shiona Turini and stylist Michaela Dosamantes, who was most recently a contributing fashion and market editor for Vogue.it. [The Cut]
Giorgio Armani has revealed the Olympic uniforms he designed for Italy's national team. The 50-piece collection includes everything from tracksuits to suitcases and was designed under his EA7 Emporio Armani sportswear line. [Vogue UK]
Abbey Lee Kershaw and Edita Vilkeviciute join Tom Cruise on the May cover of W magazine. Cruise is dressed (well, tattooed, anyway) as his character from the upcoming movie Rock of Ages, and Kershaw and Vilkeviciute stand in as glamorous groupies. [Fashion Gone Rogue]

>> The annual Costume Institute Gala's red carpet is an infamous frenzy of fashion and flashbulbs - and we were right there to capture it all. From Anna to Miuccia, Calvin to Valentino, the grand steps of the Met were jam-packed with some of the industry's most favorite faces - not to mention some of Hollywood's favorite stars. "It's always a fun night, you know? Everyone is dressed up and looks beautiful," explained Caroline Trentini, who was dressed in a denim gown designed by date Olivier Theyskens. Ginnifer Goodwin, who wore a custom Monique Lhuillier gown, shared the sentiment: "I'm excited to see so many old friends. I know that I've got a lot of buddies inside. That's what I'm most excited about," the actress said.

"It's hugely special! What could be more important than the Costume Institute Gala? It feels like the Oscars," a Schiaparelli-pink-haired Chris Benz explained before whisking date Julie Macklowe - also sporting fuchsia locks - through the doors of the museum.

"I think it's more fun than the Oscars!" director Baz Luhrmann - who made a series of films for the exhibit - disagreed. "Just because there are no awards. There's no stress. All I have to do is eat a little something, drink a little something, and watch Bruno Mars rock the house. That can't be too hard, you know."

The ladies of Lanvin played up the mystique with giant fans and new-wave shades; the girls at Dior looked demure in ladylike lipstick and super-sweet poses; and there was plenty of playful frolicking - not to mention an eye-catching array of candy-hued shoes - at Carven. Balmain offered up a dose of rock n' roll glamour with gilded shorts and heavy hardware, while the ethereal vibe at Rick Owens made for lots of ghoulish creeping. Carine Roitfeld Plans to Launch a Magazine Next September

>> Carine Roitfeld has been hinting a lot at her next big project, but now she confirms (translated from French): "It will be a magazine." She continues: "I would love to do four times a year. Initially, I wanted it on the Internet, but it's a lot of investment, a lot of time, I do not know if it suits me. I know that now you have to work with the Internet, and the photos are of very good quality on the iPad, but things quickly go out of style on the Internet. We'll start with print. A September issue next Fall, in English."

Roitfeld told Dazed Digital of the magazine last week: "It will be something less frequent than a monthly to make it more iconic, more collectible. I want to make something really beautiful, chic, different. . . . I have to find a new way, so I am dreaming about it and working it out."

She also recently hinted at who she might be working with: "I have a lot to say about fashion, not just about fashion but beauty, art. I'm looking for a new way to talk to readers. We make the dream team - Marie-Amelie Sauve, [Mario] Testino, Stephen Gan."

As for whether she has a name for the magazine: "Yes. I cannot tell you, I'm trying to see if it's not already filed, but I think it suits me, it's pretty rock and roll. I could call it Carine Roitfeld in the manner of Oprah Winfrey, and put myself on the cover every month like she does, but I'm not sure if this is what people want. At the moment, they see me a lot, I'll even do a signing [of her new book, Irreverent] at Colette and it amuses me, but after I want to disappear."

And how she envisions the magazine: "I do not want to compete with Vogue. Besides, I'm not sure they see me coming from a very good eye. It will not be easy for me to run independently. It's a little earthen pot against the iron pot. But I still have friends willing to support me. I would like to succeed in mixing a lot of people very different, as for a dinner."
