>> Replacing models' heads seems to have become a thing: Yesterday, we were talking about Donna Karan placing Toni Garrn's head on other models' bodies for her Fall 2009 ads, and today, Prada posted their Fall 2009 lookbook - and the full set of their Fall 2009 ads - with Meghan Collison's head replaced by a wolf's in one picture and a spiked sphere in another, Lara Stone's head supplanted by a set of red blocks, and various other models' faces subsituted with doodles and collages.

Maison Michel Enlists Karl Lagerfeld and Crew for Fall 2009 Lookbook

>> For Fall 2009, Maison Michel, whose art director Laetitia Crahay doubles as Chanel's accessories designer, asked her other boss Karl Lagerfeld to photograph the milliner's lookbook. The result is a veritable list of Chanel favorites - Karl's muse Lady Amanda Harlech, Chanel face Heidi Mount, Karl's male model favorite of the moment Baptiste Giabiconi - and plenty of other models including Lara Stone, Angela Lindvall, Sasha Pivovarova, Erin Wasson, plus surprise appearances by Olivier Theyskens and Crahay herself, all donning the latest in Maison Michel's headgear.

>> After pulling double-duty last New York Fashion Week as both runway walker and interviewer for E! Canada, her one-hour special, "Coco Rocha Fashion Attack in NYC," premiered in Canada on June 15. Last night, she hosted a screening for friends - including her best friend Behati Prinsloo - who missed out the first time at the Bryant Park Hotel, and finally, some clips have surfaced that can be watched in the US, including interviews with Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley talking about a cape he bought at a bullfighters' outfitters in Madrid. At the screening, she said of the experience: “In the end of it all, I was so excited to be done with it. But when everyone went home I was like, more!”

A Complete Look at Moises de la Renta's First MDLR Collection for Fall 2009

>> Back in February, Oscar de la Renta's son Moises launched his own line, MDLR, for Fall 2009 after internships at Phat Farm and with his father. Much of the collection retails for under $1,000, and Lissy Trullie posed for the inaugural lookbook, which thanks to the newly-launched MDLR web site, can be seen in full below. The line was predicted by Style.com to be "a chart topper," and the designer's friend Julia Frakes promises that we'll be "head over heels" for his Spring 2010 collection.

Christian Dior Goes Low-Key for Cruise 2010, Back Home for Couture

>> Dior announced today that it would be showing John Galliano's latest couture confections in its own headquarters at 30 Avenue Montaigne for the first time in a decade. The Fall 2009 presentation takes place on July 6, with one show for clients and another for press; the past few seasons, Dior has erected a tent in the gardens of the Rodin Museum for couture shows.

CEO Sidney Toledano denied that the change had anything to do with cost-cutting, but rather was a move to underscore the brand's heritage: “We want to do it in this house again to feel at Dior. We really want to transport the spirit."

A statement like that is hard to believe after the hoopla surrounding today's Dior Cruise 2010 show - which was nonexistent, compared to its counterpart last year, with its full-blown runway production and front row packed with the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Charlize Theron. The Cruise 2010 collection, as seen below, was inspired by Christian Dior's muse, Mitzah Bricard, and her favorite accessories - pearls, turbans, and stilettos.

Christian Lacroix Has Been Designing for Free, May Not Have Couture Show

>> Last week, Christian Lacroix filed the equivalent of Chapter 11 bankruptcy in a Paris court. The resultant hearing, in which the court will decide to either restructure or liquidate the company, is expected this week.

In its 22 years of existence, the company has never once turned a profit, and in a letter to the house's 125 employees, Lacroix wrote that he is "not ashamed" to admit that he is owed money by the company - approximately $1.7 million - and has been designing "free of charge" for several months.

He pledged to give "200 percent" to keep the house afloat, and aims to “preserve the know-how, without which the lungs and the heart of the house couldn’t exist." As for the fate of the Fall 2009 Lacroix couture show, which is supposed to be in early July, a spokesperson could only say: "Regrettably, I cannot yet confirm if the July show will be going ahead."

Chanel Teases Venice Cruise Collection; Karl Lagerfeld Directs Short Film with Lara Stone

>> Matthew Williamson launched a trippy online-only campaign video with H&M earlier this week, but his is not the only brand that has recently become fascinated with online video. Chanel just posted the first teaser for their Cruise 2010 show, taking place next Thursday, May 14 at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Lido Resort in Venice.

Karl Lagerfeld, according to press release, chose Venice as the newest Chanel runway hosting ground because Coco Chanel visited the city in the summer of 1920 to promote her beach pyjamas and soak up inspiration. A symbol that may play into the upcoming collection? The lion - Chanel collected many lion figurines while visiting, as she was a Leo. Two more cruise teaser videos will be posted under Chanel News on May 11 and May 13.

The brand has also recently launched a video highlighting their pink and jade Fall 2009 accessories, with guest appearances by a number of models, including Chanel favorites like Coco Rocha, Eniko Mihalik, Lily Donaldson, Anja Rubik, and Jessica Stam. But the best video added to their library is "Fitting Room Follies," a short film done by Karl Lagerfeld with Lara Stone trying on the Fall 2009 collection (NSFW) - you can hear him directing Lara in the background over the music.

Fashion houses, anticipating reduced orders, cut out the theatrics as they sought to appeal to a relatively new demand in luxury fashion: value. By the end of the shows, retailers were praising the level of craft and fabric research - and complaining when it was obscured, as at Chanel, by French-maid ruffles. Out of necessity, a lot of designers put on smaller shows. It meant that they couldn’t flub a seam." [NY Times]

Gen Art Kicks Off LA Fashion Week with Raquel Allegra, Society of Rational Dress, and Grai

>> For the first time, Los Angeles Fashion Week is without former sponsor IMG. Things were up in the air until early this month, when a weekend of runway shows was announced and tickets were made open to the public - for a price.

Last night, Gen Art hosted three of the most promising talents of the week(end): Raquel Allegra, whose shredded t-shirts have been spotted on Kate Lanphear and launched a DIY epidemic - she added hand-dyed leather pants and leggings for Fall 2009 and promises expansion into cashmere and silks, shoes and accessories next; Grai, the three-year-old line designed by one-time Rick Owens student Maya Yogev (whose Owens training clearly inspired her full-length skirts and draped leather jackets); and Society for Rational Dress, whose designer Corinne Grassini launched a capsule collection exclusive to Barneys last month - the Fall 2009 collection features her signature harness detailing and a chain-and-leather breastplate.
