A First Look at Erin Wasson's Collaboration with Zadig & Voltaire

>> Erin Wasson's new collaboration - the Erin Meets Zadig line, done with French luxury lifestyle brand Zadig & Voltaire - is set to be introduced during Paris Couture Week in July. The presentation will have a strong musical element, according to Zadig & Voltaire founder Thierry Gillier, which comes as no surprise - when Wasson designed her RVCA line, those presentations often had a live band performance; the last two involved Gang Gang Dance and Yeasayer.

But the similarities between her RVCA and Zadig & Voltaire collaborations stop there, Wasson says: “Zadig & Voltaire is a sophisticated French brand. I was aware of this difference [from RVCA] when we started developing the collection. We worked with more luxurious fabrics and materials.” Erin Meets Zadig was inspired by “life, classic cars, and Rod Stewart,” Wasson adds: “The collection feels almost sensual. I wanted it to be about basic shapes with subtle texture."

Wasson features in the Zadig & Voltaire Spring 2011 and Fall 2011 ad campaigns, as well as the lookbook for Erin Meets Zadig, shot by Fred Meylan in the Hamptons (a few images in the slideshow). Gillier notes: “Erin’s capsule is really different from what we are doing today. It allows us to offer an even more distinctive product. We are rock ’n’ roll, but Erin is even more rock ’n’ roll.”

The 15-piece offering, which includes a studded suede jacket, leather pants, a cashmere jumpsuit, and a python bag and boots, ranges from 90 euros ($120) for a cotton tank to 1,050 euros ($1,400) for a foal skin coat. It will be launched exclusively on Net-a-Porter in September, before rolling out in 80 Zadig & Voltaire stores worldwide. Though it was originally intended to be a one-off, the capsule collection could evolve into another type of project in coming seasons, Gillier said: “We are already exploring different ideas to do something new next season with her and with other people.”

Rag & Bone Earn Their Stripes with Their Fall 2011 Arctic Ski-Inspired Collection

>> For the second Fall season in a row, the Rag & Bone boys have created a lot of want in the ten some-odd minutes it takes for their run of show. The futuristic bent that was introduced in their Spring 2011 collection stayed, but this time worked its way into a number of the Rag & Bone staples - cropped fitted jackets, kilts, knee socks, and cape coats. This was mashed together with a newfound fascination with texture: cow hides, nubby knits, neoprenes, shearlings, wools, and fringes were all represented.

As Marcus Wainwright noted backstage, "It started with Inuit people - the indigenous people of the Arctic circle - and on the other side of it, there was a French skiier called Jean-Claude Killy - so '70s ski - and it just went from there." As for the brilliant blue that was used so liberally in the second half of the show - where did that come from? "In looking at all of these pictures of the Arctic and the snow and the sky bounced against it," Wainwright explained, "that unbelievable blue - Klein Blue - that kind of blue of the sky, was just amazing against the ivory and the grey of the beginning [of the show]. It's a fun color."

The cool Rag & Bone girl was well-accounted-for as usual, both front row (Erin Wasson, Jessica Stam, and Alexa Chung), and on the catwalk (Bette Franke, making a runway return after taking a season off, Arizona Muse, Joan Smalls, Fei Fei Sun, Saskia de Brauw, and Britt Maren). Boots tended to be thigh-high and low-heeled. As for the clutches, which were strapped to the models' hands by glove-like contraptions, leaving their fingers free - would those be put into production? "It may well do if people like them," Wainwright answered. "I don't know. We just did it just for the show, we always do those things ourselves, but yeah, probably." He and Neville had both cracked open Peroni beers immediately post-show, while their children ran around backstage. So what's the plan now that the show is finished? "I have had one beer," Wainwright replied. "I'm going to have a few more. I feel pretty good about it. I was excited about the music [done by Thom Yorke], and it's good."

>> Stella McCartney is known for her quirky, even cartoony campaigns, and this time, she enlisted Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott to shoot Joan Smalls and Malgosia Bela for Spring 2011. The ads show Bela wearing nothing but a collage of blown-up images of McCartney's Spring fruit print or Smalls wearing a swimsuit-shaped collage of pastel-colored suit lapels. “I wanted to play with the purity and realism of the citrus print from summer 2011….exaggerating the scale and playing with the female form in its purest form, as nature intended,” McCartney told WWD. A look at that, plus Erin Wasson's minimalist turn for Elie Saab, Patricia van der Vliet's maximalist turn for Sonia Rykiel, and Raquel Zimmermann and Freja Beha Erichsen for H&M, all in the gallery.

>> For the 2011 Pirelli calendar, which launched in Moscow today, Karl Lagerfeld said that he produced “the visual version of Homer. I did with my camera what he did with his pen, although we understand that he probably didn't use a pen.” Lagerfeld gathered 15 female models, 5 male models, and Julianne Moore in his Paris studio back in April to produce 36 black and white images of deities from ancient Greece and Rome for the calendar. “I wanted to do something different. I looked at all the other calendars,” he explained, adding: “With such a concept and boys and girls like this, it was an easy job.”

Lagerfeld was surrounded by a cadre of the models featured for the Moscow launch, including Natasha Poly sporting a new brunette hair color. But who did he cast as whom? Julianne Moore plays Hera, Brad Kroenig poses as Zeus, Lara Stone gives her best Aphrodite, Jeneil Williams channels Hades, and Baptiste Giabiconi embodies the roles of both Narcissus and Apollo.

2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalists Head to Los Angeles for a Fashion Show

>> The Chateau Marmont hosted the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund West Coast runway show and tea yesterday afternoon - part of the competition for fund finalists (Joseph Altuzarra, Pamela Love, Prabal Gurung, Christian Cota, Moss Lipow, Gregory Parkinson, and Eddie Borgo among them); each finalist showed five Spring 2011 looks to an audience that included Rachel Zoe, Erin Wasson, Noot Seear, and Jenna Lyons.

Nerves were high for the designers, with a winner to be announced next month. “I have to tell myself to stop and enjoy the moment,” said Gurung. “But it was hard for us all not to tear up.” And Laura Love, Vogue West Coast editor Lisa Love's daughter, who was reportedly convinced to check out modeling by Anna Wintour and has since signed with Ford Models, walked the runway for Altuzarra.
