>> Alexander Wang may have changed up his collection's look for Spring 2010, but he's not about to lose his street cred. He partnered with Katie Grand and LOVE, rented out a Mobil gas station last night, and brought a crowd — which included Trish Goff, Daphne Guinness, L'Wren Scott, Erin Wasson, Vanessa Traina, plus fellow designers Esteban Cortazar and Gareth Pugh.
Despite the fact that the station's gas tanks were drained yesterday afternoon and the venue drenched with nonflammable suds, cigarettes were verboten; nicotine-dependent guests were constantly reminded with "Please stop smoking!" announcements. To take their minds off those forbidden cigarette, there were performances by both Courtney Love, who told the audience she received (ironically) a carton of cigarettes and a pair of shoes to play, and Santigold; plus guests had a free run of anything in the station's convenience store: Bee Shaffer took advantage of the candy aisle.
Alexander, for his part, seemed to be enjoying himself — he chatted up Lily Donaldson and Frankie Rayder, got down with Hanne Gaby Odiele (below), and jumped onstage and into Courtney Love's arms during her performance.

>> Alexander Wang hinted recently that he was ready to evolve, telling W's September 2009 issue: "As soon as people get used to what you’re doing, you have to change direction." And evolve he did for Spring 2010: the look of his last few collections, with their body-clinging shapes and primarily black palettes, was replaced by a generally looser silhouette and all shades of khaki, tan, olive, and gray. He told WWD that Spring 2010 for him "is very much about classic American sportswear," and the idea is visible in pieces like a sweatshirt dress with football pad detailing (below) and all the shinguard-like socks cut out at the back of the calf.
But Wang didn't give up the sexy side of his label — there were plenty of bra tops, crop tops, and and lingerie-style shorts to go around. The house was unsurprisingly packed, with Katie Grand (Wang's after-party co-host), Terry Richardson, Olivier Zahm, Diane von Furstenberg (Alex's CFDA-appointed mentor), Erin Wasson, Devon Aoki, Liya Kebede, and Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin all front row. Frankie Rayder, Angela Lindvall, and Iselin Steiro walked, newcomer Mirte Maas opened, Karl Templer styled, and Wang's three styles of sunglasses debuted.

>> Erin Wasson, who dropped by Charlotte Ronson just hours before her own RVCA show, brought the party to the Tents with a little live performance by Gang Gang Dance while a movie shot in the California desert played above them on a big screen, reflecting the show's inspiration. Behati Prinsloo and boyfriend Jamie Strachan were front row, as were Bruce Willis and his wife Emma Heming; the runway for Erin's first catwalk show got underway fashionably late — almost an hour after the scheduled time.
She told the Huffington Post of her move from presentation to the biggest Tent: "I was given a wonderful opportunity to be here. I did have doubts though. Was it too much too soon? Who am I to think that I belong here? It was very humbling. It was a very hard decision to make but when life hands me an opportunity I'm always up for the challenge. Go big, and go home!" As for her appearance as a party girl in Sofia Coppola's upcoming movie Somewhere: "[It's] half a second. If you blink you're going to miss me. I have no speaking lines."

>> Frankie Rayder to Walk Alexander Wang; Erin Wasson's Mysterious A-List Guest, Musical Act — Alexander Wang is known to bring familiar model faces back into the runway mix for his show, and this season, rumors are going around that Frankie Rayder — who walked Michael Kors last season — will do his catwalk; her sister, Missy Rayder, recently posed for Wang's lookbook. Style.com promises that Erin Wasson's RVCA show tomorrow, too, will be "memorable . . . for reasons we mostly cannot elaborate" — she has a mysterious band playing and a mysterious A-List guest attending. >> Erin Wasson is bringing her first runway show at Bryant Park's biggest Tent venue to 1,100 guests — about twice the number that former collaborator Alexander Wang is expecting.
The show, which is for both her RVCA line and her Low Luv jewelry collection, is set for Friday, Sept. 12 at 8 pm and will feature both a multi-media installation and a "special musical guest to play live on the catwalk" — no further clues available yet on the latter. Of the move to a primetime venue, Wasson said she is "humbled and honored":
“I’ve spent hours at those Tents as a model, working with some of the icons of American fashion. And meanwhile, I’ve only been doing this design thing for a few seasons — Spring ’10 is season three — and it’s kind of insane to think that I’m getting to show on that same stage."
It's "too predictable" to show "in, like, an abandoned warehouse" »

>> New York Fashion Week is still over a month away, but Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week just released its official calendar today and the Fashion Calendar — which shows all of the shows not included in the Bryant Park festivities — has appeared online, so we can get an idea of what will be going down in that crazy time period between Sept. 9 and Sept. 17.

Despite the industry's economic doldrums, a few designers are adding an extra show for Spring 2010 — Ralph Lauren is upgrading from two showings to three in his usual morning-of-the-last-day spot; Phillip Lim is following in close friend Richard Chai's footsteps, doing a two separate shows this season, one for men's and one for women's, rather than combining them like he usually does; and Thom Browne, who chose to show his Fall 2009 collection in Florence instead of at New York Fashion Week, is back on the schedule with not one but two shows.

>> Erin Wasson Showing Bigger for Spring 2010 at Barneys' Behest —Erin Wasson says that she's expanding from her typical informal Erin Wasson for RVCA presentation to the Bryant Park Tents for Spring 2010 because Barneys did so well with the collection that it asked her to expand; the forthcoming larger collection, inspired by her pit bull, Cream, and "sunset," will be in conjunction with her jewelry line, Low Luv. As for personal progress, she just bought a house in Austin, Texas, and is wearing a tiny diamond band on her ring finger, of which she will only say: "I have a lot of love in my life. That’s the important thing." [Times UK]

>> Erin Wasson To Appear in Sofia Coppola's Somewhere —Erin Wasson just joined the cadre of models posing mostly nude (NSFW) on skateboards, but apparently she's also foraying into film. Wasson has a bit part in Sofia Coppola's upcoming movie Somewhere, about a hard-partying actor living at the Chateau Marmont who gets a surprise visit from his 11-year-old daughter, as "Party Girl #1," according to a photo taken on set. The film just wrapped last week. [Fashin]

Erin, who for the past two seasons has done more informal presentations, said back in March that her Spring 2010 collection is inspired by her pit bull, Cream. [WWD]

>> Erin Wasson Styles for Elle Again; Karl Templer to Style Alexander Wang Spring 2010? —Alexander Wang moved on from Erin Wasson's styling a couple of seasons ago, going with Alastair McKimm instead. A smattering of seasons later amid rumors that Wang is going with a heavyweight name for his Spring 2010 show, Calvin Klein stylist Karl Templer has emerged as the likely candidate. As for Erin, she just clocked hours in the studio styling her second editorial for Elle. [WWD, Joe Zee Twitter]
