Alber Elbaz Pulls Out the Stops at Lanvin for H&M Fashion Show

>> Alber Elbaz and the Lanvin team descended on New York's Pierre Hotel Thursday evening, transforming it with palm fronds, caged parakeets, models in French maid outfits, and little old men offering up champagne, scotch, crustless tea sandwiches, and macaroons, to show off their H&M collaboration.

At the runway's entrance, a rose-filled arch set with "Lanvin Hearts H&M" in fluorescent lights; to the side of that, a salsa band played live music. And above the runway, there were 20 crystal chandeliers. The venue was packed, to say the least - Sofia Coppola, Patrick Demarchelier, Shala Monroque, Sally Singer, and Grace Coddington were all there, plus more than a handful of other designers sitting front row: Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, Tory Burch, Alexander Wang, Anna Sui.

Katie Grand styled the show - and the models were told to engage with the audience - so Siri Tollerod, as veiled bride, tossed her bouquet; Pixie Geldof strutted down in her gender-bending suit; Anna Dello Russo, walked with a gray standard poodle at her side; and Julia Frakes made her runway debut. The clothes were couture riffs on the Lanvin for H&M collection - on sale to benefit Unicef now - but afterward, there was a frenzy for the Lanvin for H&M collection pop-up shop set up downstairs. Many editors walked away with multiple bags, Coppola bought the tulle jacket, and even Wang did a little shopping of his own.

Freja Beha Erichsen Caps Off Fall 2010 Campaign Sweep with Balenciaga

>> Freja Beha Erichsen hasn't been far from the top for a number of seasons now, but it really is "The Summer of Freja," as The Cut put it. She's scored Vogue Paris, Vogue UK, and i-D covers in the last couple of months, plus made a clean sweep of the Fall 2010 campaign game, appearing in Chanel, Valentino, and Tom Ford eyewear ads. Add to that the new Balenciaga campaign, just out (below), where she appears alongside Karen Elson (also fronting Louis Vuitton this season) and Stella Tennant (who is moonlighting for Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2010 as well), Meghan Collison, Eliza Cummings, Valerija Kelava, Mirte Maas, and Julija Stepanoviciute, all shot by Steven Meisel.

Models Galore Hit Vienna for 2009 Life Ball Extravaganza

>> Before heading back to the States from Venice, a number of Chanel Cruise attendees - and show strutters like Toni Garrn and Siri Tollerod - made a stop over in Vienna for the annual Life Ball AIDS charity spectacular Saturday evening. The town hall was surrounded by 2.5 million liters of water trucked in for this year's marine theme, and the guest list topped 40,000.

Amber Valletta opened the motorcade in a blue crystal-covered chariot, Anja Rubik was in attendance wearing her favorite label as of late, Balmain, and Sessilee Lopez sported a blonde wig for one of her turns during the catwalk festivities. Heather Marks, Iris Strubegger, Emina Cunmulaj, Eliza Cummings, Kinga Rajzak, Sara Blomqvist all also participated, plus first-timer Stephanie Carta, who described the experience as "a fantasy world of glitter and botox and some kind of neverending celebration."

>> THE ZEITGEIST -The It Brit invasion continues, and though all the naysayers were poised to boo Eliza Cumming's April 2009 Vogue Italia cover, the visual treatment has turned them into a crowd of believers - perhaps just this once. Daisy Lowe just signed to do a fly-on-the-wall documentary series of her life, and Alexa Chung is moving to New York, hinting that she'll be continuing her TV career stateside, with rumors placing her in the hands of MTV. As far as cast: supposedly Du Juan, Hannelore Knuts, Olga Sherer, Elsa Sylvan, Jessica Stam, Chanel Iman, Natasha Poly, Karolin Wolter, Snejana Onopka, and "Eliza" (which could only be Eliza Cummings) are all backstage; for the runthrough the models all have different hairstyles.

UPDATE: The 65 models walking were called 5 hours before the show because all require a different beauty look; the hair is inspired by the DIY look of club kids, the makeup punky Sprouse, and the look is so transforming Marc had to ask Jessica Stam if it was really her under everything.
