>> By now, we've seen the lookbook pictures of Rei Kawakubo's Comme des Garcons for H&M collection — but how do they look on? Comme Des Tiers Etat with H&M and Rei Kawakubo
September 30, 2008 1:13 pm
In April we mentioned we were unsure just how Rei Kawakubo's highly conceptual work would translate into clothing for the hoi polloi with her much anticipated collaboration with H&M and now thanks to the power and speed of the blogosphere the full collection is making the rounds faster than a bad cold. And just as we predicted, despite many a young hipster craving a Comme des Garçons look, Kawakubo's designs in cheap polyester are a giant joke on the third estate.

>> Rei Kawakubo's Spring 2009 mainline for Comme des Garcons debuts today, but in a remarkable coincidence, so has full Comme des Garcons for H&M lookbook. You can peep the polka dots, baggy shorts, and $350 dress to your heart's content .

>> INSIDER WIRE —When Roberto Cavalli's H&M line launched last year in New York, Cavalli himself was on the flagship's staircase, taking in the madness with Jessica Stam at his side. For the Comme des Garcons for H&M launch in Tokyo on Saturday, Rei Kawakubo also made sure everything was going properly, but in her own way — she spent all Friday morning beforehand, "folding her signature shirts with precision."

>> INSIDER WIRE —Comme des Garcons for H&M goes on sale tomorrow in Tokyo — the rest of us have to wait until next Thursday — and a group of six people have been taking turns in line since Tuesday. I hope they weren't planning on grabbing up all the stock — H&M just came out with a new policy stipulating that each customer can only purchase two of each CDG for H&M style, in hopes of curbing all the mad post-purchase eBaying.
