>> New York Fashion Week is less than a week away, and the tidbits are flowing freely - a compilation of the highlights from the past couple of days:

Double (or Triple) Duty Presentations

Gareth Pugh confirmed that he will be showing a video directed by Ruth Hogben on Sept. 13 to "set the mood for [his] catwalk show that will take place as usual in Paris." After the private showing, he'll screen the short film in public nearby - get your name on the guest list via MAC's Facebook page. [Style File]
Temperley London is taking their interactive Spring 2010 multimedia presentation on the road for the second time, starting in New York Sept. 15 before evolving in format for London Fashion Week and then again in Paris, where it will become an exhibit. The film aspect, plus stills and a behind-the-scenes cut will be readily available online on Temperley's new website.

>> Fashion Figures Are in Full Vacation Mode -Everyone's trying to get their vacation in before Fashion Week's craziness takes over September and October: Stefano Pilati is currently relaxing by the pool of his ivy-covered summer place in Saint-Tropez, and Vogue has a whole slew of details on where models are vacationing, among them Coco Rocha, who is volunteering in Costa Rica for the entire month of August; Sasha Pivovarova, who is going to the Dominican Republic with her husband; and Caroline Trentini, who is already visiting family in Brazil. >> After pulling double-duty last New York Fashion Week as both runway walker and interviewer for E! Canada, her one-hour special, "Coco Rocha Fashion Attack in NYC," premiered in Canada on June 15. Last night, she hosted a screening for friends - including her best friend Behati Prinsloo - who missed out the first time at the Bryant Park Hotel, and finally, some clips have surfaced that can be watched in the US, including interviews with Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley talking about a cape he bought at a bullfighters' outfitters in Madrid. At the screening, she said of the experience: “In the end of it all, I was so excited to be done with it. But when everyone went home I was like, more!”

Michelle Obama Fever Hits Models, Designers at American Ballet Theater Spring Gala

>> Michelle Obama attracted Ralph Lauren, Iman, and Anna Wintour front row as she promoted the arts with a speech on opening night at the American Ballet Theater in New York, and at the following Spring gala, she earned praise from another fashion fan - Francisco Costa, who arrived with Dree Hemingway. "She's proven that she has great sensibility, great tastes - she's feeling her way around and doing an amazing job." Costa has not yet had an opportunity to dress the First Lady, but getting there is on his agenda. "Of course I will try to talk to her! Why do you think I'm here? I bought a tuxedo for her!"

Sessilee Lopez, too, was excited to have dinner with Obama. "She is truly amazing in person. An aura just radiates from her. I'm so proud that she's our First Lady," she wrote. Coco Rocha and Hilary Rhoda also attended, in support of the evening's honorary chair, Carolina Herrera.

Chanel Teases Venice Cruise Collection; Karl Lagerfeld Directs Short Film with Lara Stone

>> Matthew Williamson launched a trippy online-only campaign video with H&M earlier this week, but his is not the only brand that has recently become fascinated with online video. Chanel just posted the first teaser for their Cruise 2010 show, taking place next Thursday, May 14 at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Lido Resort in Venice.

Karl Lagerfeld, according to press release, chose Venice as the newest Chanel runway hosting ground because Coco Chanel visited the city in the summer of 1920 to promote her beach pyjamas and soak up inspiration. A symbol that may play into the upcoming collection? The lion - Chanel collected many lion figurines while visiting, as she was a Leo. Two more cruise teaser videos will be posted under Chanel News on May 11 and May 13.

The brand has also recently launched a video highlighting their pink and jade Fall 2009 accessories, with guest appearances by a number of models, including Chanel favorites like Coco Rocha, Eniko Mihalik, Lily Donaldson, Anja Rubik, and Jessica Stam. But the best video added to their library is "Fitting Room Follies," a short film done by Karl Lagerfeld with Lara Stone trying on the Fall 2009 collection (NSFW) - you can hear him directing Lara in the background over the music.

The Emperor Valentino Reigns at New York Premiere

>> Last night, Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti were in New York to fete the opening of Valentino: The Last Emperor - arguably their biggest Manhattan party ever, between the screening and the dinner for 200 of fashion's finest (including Anna Wintour, Anja Rubik, Jason Wu, and Chanel Iman) at the Plaza's Oak Room. The designer's six pugs Molly, Milton, Monty, Margot, Maude, and Maggie, who director Matt Tyrnauer has dubbed "the costars of the film," weren't present - according to Valentino, "they're getting some time away from me in Italy" - but maybe that's a good thing: Karolina Kurkova admitted, “they’re really not nice to everybody” and Gwyneth Paltrow agreed, calling the pugs "kind of mean."

When Giancarlo Giammetti was asked about his comment on film that the designer looked too tan, he was quick to explain, "We'd come from the beach, and we were about to show summer suits, and he just . . . it just seemed like too much. But it was one time, and one time only." And as for those rumors that he was back to helping out at Valentino for Fall 2009, Garavani denied having any hand in it, "No, not at all. Very far from the truth. I don’t think about it. I wish my assistants to do the best. It’s a big job, though, and to know my name goes on the designs, I want them to do the best.”

Meanwhile, the film seems to have already inspired at least one person - Zac Posen. "I wouldn't mind being followed around too for two years. It's all about having the right collaborators."

>> THE ZEITGEIST -Having a camera-toting entourage seems to be in vogue this season: Coco Rocha had an E! camera crew following her around in New York, Jessica Stam led MTV News around backstage at Anna Sui, Anna Wintour, who was joined by 60 Minutes's Morley Safer at Ralph Lauren and more recently, Dolce & Gabbana, is still filming for that video profile, and now Carine Roitfeld is being followed by a CNN crew in Milan and Paris for a Revealed show, to be aired after the Paris collections.
