Shortly after Estee Lauder tapped Chinese model Liu Wen - the brand's first Asian face - earlier this year, Lauder global brand president Jane Hertzmark Hudis acknowledged: “China is our fastest-growing market. What better way to honor that than to hire a native of the country?” And Aerin Lauder, SVP and creative director, added: “We’re doing very well in Asia, and we’re No. 1 in China. So Liu Wen sends the perfect message at the perfect time.”

Christy Turlington, Karen Elson, and Natalia Vodianova Share Campaign Duties For Louis Vuitton

Having cast a 47-year-old Elle Macpherson (along with the womanly bodies of Laetitia Casta and Bar Refaeli) to fill out the curvy dress silhouettes on the fall Louis Vuitton runway, Marc Jacobs continues to offer a multigenerational theme for his advertising images-selecting Christy Turlington, Karen Elson, and Natalia Vodianova to share campaign duties. Steven Meisel shot all three models in a New York studio made to look like a Hollywood star's old-fashioned dressing room. Turlington, Elson, and Vodianova look perfectly put together dressed in Jacobs's "And God Created Woman" collection of corseted waists and circle skirts with their hair in the same fresh-looking, '50s-style high ponytails from the Vuitton runway. Perhaps reason enough to agree with Vogue's mandate to return to mature, ladylike clothing this fall.

>> In a follow up to his voluptuous Fall 2010 runway cast, Marc Jacobs selected Christy Turlington, Natalia Vodianova, and Karen Elson - coincidentally, none of whom walked in the collection's show - for the accompanying campaign. "This season we are working with three of the most beautiful women, I think, in the world," he says in the making-of video. "[A] Blonde, brunette, and a redhead." They also span one model in her 20s, one in her 30s, and one in her 40s. This marks the fourth Vuitton campaign captured by Steven Meisel, who constructed the '50s set in a Manhattan studio space.

Marc Jacobs Tore His Shoulder and Needs Surgery, Can't Work Out

>> For a recent chat with the Financial Times's Vanessa Friedman, Marc Jacobs wore a white button-down shirt with jeans instead of his usual kilt; is his addiction to the skort waning, perhaps courtesy of his fiance Lorenzo Martone's dislike of the look? “I just didn’t feel like wearing it,” Jacobs explained.

As for his compulsive gym habit, Jacobs says he hasn’t “been able to work out at all,” due to a torn rotator cuff on his shoulder; he's having surgery in a few weeks. His predilection for purchasing art, too, has been curbed: “Actually, I haven’t bought anything for a long time. The other day I bought a little 1962 Ellsworth Kelly at the Christie’s auction, but that’s it. It was a funny thing for me to buy, too. It’s just a white square with a yellow curve. Usually I like more figurative work – this is the sort of thing I’d look at and admire but not want to buy. But I just like it . . . it makes me happy.”

Ungaro menswear designer Franck Boclet is leaving the firm after a three-year stint.

Meanwhile rumors are mounting that Giles Deacon could be the new creative director at Ungaro.

Fall 2010 Campaign Update: Givenchy, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, and Roberto Cavalli

>> Fall 2010 campaign season is well under way - and although not all casts have been finalized, as is the case over at Miu Miu, many have, causing an influx of rumors and confirmations. On Wednesday, Karen Elson joined Christy Turlington and Natalia Vodianova on the Fall 2010 Louis Vuitton campaign set in New York, where Steven Meisel photographed and Karl Templer styled. Meisel also shot the Lanvin campaign this week in New York, with Alber Elbaz overseeing another trio: Anja Rubik, Magdelena Frackowiak and Mariacarla Boscono.

Givenchy, too, is rumored to be going with a trio of female models - Ming Xi, Joan Smalls, and Mariacarla Boscono - joined by a few male models in front of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott's lens. But the trio trend breaks there - word going around is that Meisel captured 12 girls for Balenciaga, including Finnish newcomer Kirsi Pyrhonen, and Roberto Cavalli is going solo with Gisele Bundchen shot by Mert and Marcus.

But in fact, Marc Jacobs has reportedly gone with two models for Fall 2010, neither of which walked the runway - Natalia Vodianova, who sat front row at the show, and Christy Turlington. Full Look: Steven Meisel Spoofs Twitter for Vogue Italia December 2009 with "Meiselpic"

>> Steven Meisel co-opted the Twitter phenomenon for the last Vogue Italia issue of the decade - December 2009 - and rechristened Twitpic "Meiselpic" for his purposes. Inside the issue he wrote to his 20 model "followers" under a blurred portrait of himself - surprising, as the photographer is reclusive and does not like to be photographed himself -"Feeling a touch swine flu . . . so not coming to work today. I'm sending you some clothes . . . wear what you like, Meiselpic it back to me. xxSteven." What comes next - and is featured on the cover - are twenty pages of model self-portraits in the style of Twitpic. Lara Stone took the below picture of herself and "Twittered" underneath: "I love my new boobs. Werk!!" A pregnant Gisele snaps herself in lingerie, covering up her bump, and "Tweets": "Privacy is beautiful!" And Freja Beha Erichsen, who's not known to be a Meisel favorite, makes a surprise appearance, as well.
