Carine Roitfeld's Longtime Partner Christian Restoin Revives Equipment

>> Christian Restoin, longtime partner of Carine Roitfeld (and father to Julia and Vladimir), launched shirt collection Equipment in 1976, eventually selling the company in 1998. But for Spring 2010, he's back in business - Equipment is being revived by Serge Azria, CEO and creative director of Joie and Current/Elliott, and Restoin has signed on as a creative consultant. “Christian and I have been friends for many years,” Azria told WWD in September. “We always talk about shirts and fashion and, of course, being in fashion, so this was a natural decision for both of us.”

Also involved in the design process, according to Azria, are “a highly respected team of international editors from Paris to Los Angeles,” whose names he declined to say. The new line - which has been picked up by Barneys - will draw from the Equipment heritage look: tailored silk menswear-inspired styles with two flap pockets, 135 style options total. Disneyrollergirl has a few snapshots of the offerings here, and many suspect that the silk shirt Carine sported during Paris Fashion Week in October is from the line.

The 2009 Costume Institute Gala Will Be Lagerfeld-Less; Plus More New Attendees

>> We had a good list or two going for earlier in the week for Monday's Costume Institute Gala attendees, but as final fittings are taking place and diamonds are being chosen, more pairs are being revealed - and even more major designers are bowing out.

Take Karl Lagerfeld, close friend to Anna Wintour - he won't be attending due to a busy travel schedule that includes Venice, Moscow and London. Also declining to show: Matthew Williamson, Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, who haven't confirmed any guests - they're still "in fittings" - perennial Dior face Charlize Theron, Carolyn Murphy, LVMH brass (who are sponsoring) Bernard Arnault, Delphine Arnault, Antoine Arnault, and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld.

But there are a few new additions to the roster: Vena Cava's Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, Blake Lively, and although there are no clues to what she's wearing, rumors are going around that Naomi Campbell plans to "outshimmer and outshine every mannequin in sight that night."

Carine Roitfeld's Home Sweet Home

A book Taschen published earlier this year, New Paris Interiors, features a seven-page look at the apartment she shares with her partner Christian Restoin and has used a backdrop for a few of her editorials, like in the image below. The space is clean and surprisingly light-colored for a woman who so prefers to wear black.
