As if its trademark lawsuit against Yves Saint Laurent wasn't enough to worry about, Christian Louboutin now has to deal with the possibility that Jessica Simpson may have copied his Straratata sandal. [The Huffington Post]
Speaking of copyright infringement: Guess CEO Paul Marciano defended his company against accusations that it's been knocking off Gucci. "I truly believe that if this is something Gucci was genuinely concerned with, they would have acted within days, everywhere," Marciano said in court. "Are you telling me today that suddenly you realize what's happened in 1995?" [The Daily Telegraph]
Barbie is running for president, but not without a little help from Chris Benz. The designer created the campaign wardrobe for the new I Can Be President Barbie doll – which consists of a single suit. "She actually doesn’t have a change of clothes, and she’s not allowed to take those clothes off either," Benz explained. "That’s not what she does." [Styleite]

>> The Fall 2012 beauty look at Chris Benz was one part Dolly Parton in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and one part Liza Minnelli in Cabaret. Eyelids were given an ombré look with silver shadow dusted all the way up to the brows, and lips were given a creamy sheen with Lancôme Rouge In Love lipstick in Sweet Embrace. A dusting of blush and a dab of Juicy Tubes gloss in Pure finished the look. Hair was all about high-impact volume - thanks to the addition of some ultra-teased wigs. Nails painted in shades of lavender, chocolate, and gray completed the endearingly kooky vibe.

>> In a season of bold prints and colors, Chris Benz - who has held both near and dear to his design repertoire from the start - really went for it in his new collection: "It's Andy Warhol's superstars go to Coney Island, with a nod to candy kids." Optic black-and-white circles, blown-up graphic prints in an assortment of brights, and checkerboards of color were mixed throughout. Benz also collaborated with Alejandro Ingelmo on shoes once again - this time high-top sneakers or wedges with a floral motif on the heel.

2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Winners Billy Reid, Prabal Gurung, and Eddie Borgo Come Home with Newly-Increased Cash Prizes

>> Last night, the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners were announced, but before they could be named during the dinner gala at New York's Skylight Studios, the results were leaked on WWD's Twitter: Billy Reid won outright, and Prabal Gurung and Eddie Borgo were both named runners-up.

Style.com's Nicole Phelps wrote that the results were a bit of a surprise: "Many in the audience had pegged Gurung and Joseph Altuzarra as the front-runners." But nevermind: the prizes were even bigger this year, with Reid granted $300,000 (up from $200,000), and Borgo and Gurung each taking $100,000 (up from $50,000). "The main prize is the mentoring we provide," CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg noted of the increase, "but a little cash never hurts."

The rest of this year's finalists - Christian Cota, Robert Geller, Oliver Helden and Paul Marlow of Loden Dager, Pamela Love of Pamela Love Jewelry, Moss Lipow and Gregory Parkinson - were treated to a keynote speech by Karl Lagerfeld, who talked about how much fun Yves Saint Laurent was "before Pierre Berge" and advised: "Young goes. But good? If you're good, it may all last."

The CFDA and Diane Von Furstenberg Welcome New Members

The Council of Fashion Designers of America welcomed its newest members yesterday during a party at New York's Four Seasons restaurant. The 31 recent inductees-including Alexander Wang, Christina and Swaim Hutson, Erin Fetherston, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Chris Benz, Jenna Lyons, Lyn Devon, Koi Suwannagate, and Maria Pinto-were welcomed by CFDA president, Diane Von Furstenberg, who promised "I am your mother, mentor and leader."

The topic of conversation ranged from saving the garment district-as many of the young designers produce the majority of their collections in New York-to memories of childhood design projects. Alexander Wang remembered copying a Versace shoe for a fifth grade papier-mâché project, Albertus Swanepoel draped fabrics on dolls' heads as a child, and Irene Neuwirth started making her first jewelry with oven-baked Shrinky Dinks.
