All-Black Everything For Carine Roitfeld's Cannes Fashion Show

Carine Roitfeld will stage the Cannes Film Festival's first ever fashion show next week, and all the clothes coming down the runway will be black.

Roitfeld will present the show, which reflects her ideal all-black wardrobe, during the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala on May 24. And after the models leave the runway, the entire collection will be auctioned off in a single lot. Fashion houses that have contributed looks to the show include Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, Roberto Cavalli, Chanel, Christian Dior, Christopher Kane, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, Giorgio Armani, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, and Versace.

Roitfeld is currently being filmed for the documentary Mademoiselle C., which follows her as she creates the first issue of her new magazine, CR Fashion Book.

Chanel's Pre-Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

Chanel kicks off the Pre-Fall 2012 campaign season with a mesmerizing black-and-white spread starring Daria Strokous and styled by Carine Roitfeld. Decked out in the label's Paris-Bombay collection - complete with elaborate head-dress - Strokous poses against a cafe bar while the label's latest flap-bags hang out nearby. Rihanna For Armani, Armani For the Olympics, and Abbey Lee Kershaw's Tom Cruise W Cover

Rihanna's second collection for Emporio Armani has been revealed - or at least the sketches of it have. The collection will include tartan-trimmed denim shorts and a distressed denim jumpsuit. "She captures the young and contemporary essence of Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans perfectly," said Giorgio Armani. [Fashion Etc.]
Carine Roitfeld is putting together a staff for her new magazine, CR Fashion Book. So far, she's hired former Teen Vogue accessories director Shiona Turini and stylist Michaela Dosamantes, who was most recently a contributing fashion and market editor for Vogue.it. [The Cut]
Giorgio Armani has revealed the Olympic uniforms he designed for Italy's national team. The 50-piece collection includes everything from tracksuits to suitcases and was designed under his EA7 Emporio Armani sportswear line. [Vogue UK]

Carine Roitfeld's New Magazine Gets a Documentary

Cameras have been following Carine Roitfeld during the creation of her new magazine CR Fashion Book, and the footage will be turned into a documentary called Mademoiselle C.

Roitfeld has reportedly given director Fabien Constant "unprecedented access" to her entire life over the past few months, and he and his crew will continue filming right up until the first issue of CR Fashion Book debuts this September. The film doesn't have a release date yet, but it has already been characterized as "a lot of fun" and will include interviews with Tom Ford, Donatella Versace, and the endlessly quotable Karl Lagerfeld.

Constant and Roitfeld have worked together before - last year, he filmed her appointments during couture week to create a short film for W magazine.

All Eyes on Carine Roitfeld's Collaboration With MAC

>> Carine Roitfeld's new fashion magazine isn't the only project she has in the works. The stylist is reportedly set to debut a limited-edition makeup collection with MAC Cosmetics this Fall.

MAC is expected to announce the collaboration later today. Roitfeld's beauty signature is a dramatic, smoky eye, and the MAC collection will mirror that look with dark eyeshadow, bold brow colors, and nude lipstick. But Roitfeld didn't just decide on the color palette - she advised MAC on everything from the package design to product names.

Carine Roitfeld Reveals Name, Details of New Fashion Magazine

>> Carine Roitfeld's much-anticipated new magazine finally has a name and a structure, and when it debuts in September it won't be like any fashion glossy on the market.

It's called CR Fashion Book, and Roitfeld told WWD that while the debut issue won't be seen until much later this year - the image at left is from a mock-up created to gauge advertiser interest - it will be unmistakably Carine; her handwritten initials form the book's logo, and the magazine will only print feature-length stories alongside the imagery. Each issue will also follow a general theme. For the obsession-themed mockup, Roitfeld hired Sebastian Faena to shoot models poring over their own reflections in mirrors.

Roitfeld stressed that she didn't start CR Fashion Book to challenge anyone - least of all Vogue Paris, where she worked until late 2010. Instead, she says she wanted to do something entirely new.

"Vogue is a very beautiful magazine, an institution, and I learned so much working there," she explained. "You can't put yourself into competition with a magazine like Vogue; you have to create something new, something different."

Carine Roitfeld to Launch New Fashion Magazine in September

>> Carine Roitfeld is set to return to the magazine industry later this year - and while she isn't saying too much about what her new book will look like, she did reveal a few bits of information that confirm it will be very, very different from French Vogue.

Roitfeld told WWD that she was leaving an assortment of Chanel parties in Tokyo to head back to New York to work on the new title. While she didn't say what the name of her publication will be, she did say that the first issue will come out in September and that the magazine will only be published twice a year. Roitfeld also said that it would look more like a book than a regular glossy, and that it won't have a traditional "front of the book" section. The focus of her pages will be "fashion with a lot of freedom."

These clues lend credence to the rumor, reported by Grazia this week, that Roitfeld is working with the publishing house that produces Visionaire (the annual art and fashion album), V Magazine, and V Man. Since leaving her post as editor in chief of French Vogue in 2010, Roitfeld has collaborated on projects for V, and WWD reported last month that she'd been "seen a lot in the company’s offices recently."

>> Chanel's classic black jacket is the focus of a new book by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld - and they enlisted over 100 models, celebrities, and fashion people to help with the project.

Lagerfeld shot everyone from Roitfeld to Sarah Jessica Parker to Alice Dellal for the tome, titled The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's Classic Revisited. The book presents Chanel's tweed bracelet-length jacket as a piece that "belongs to every era," and perhaps that's true - it looks just as chic when Roitfeld uses the jacket to dress up as Coco Chanel as it does when Parker wears it as a headdress.

Cavalli, who was honored at the event, offered insight into his newfound passion: social media. "I discovered I love to write. It's a new emotion," the designer explained. Hitting newsstands Feb. 14, the issue will feature "real people" wearing designer clothing and photographed by Karl Lagerfeld, Michael Avedon, and Jean-Baptiste Mondino. "I like men trendy, but not fashion victims. It's more effortless," Roitfeld explained of her choice to cast nonmodels. Nick Knight photographed French actor Tahar Rahim for the cover, and a bonus pinup calendar (left) - featuring supermodels and Victoria's Secret Angels photographed by Willy Vanderperre - will supplement the issue.
