Christy Turlington Gets an Editor Gig at Marie Claire

>> Stephanie Seymour is contributing fashion editor at Interview, Cindy Crawford blogged about the environment for Vanity Fair, Naomi Campbell is a contributing editor at British GQ, and now Marie Claire has tapped Christy Turlington as contributing editor - it's funny how supermodels have moved from solely being in editorials to also doing editorial.

Christy, who is currently enrolled at Columbia University for a master's course on public health, will collaborate with the magazine's writers on a column - to appear in the magazine every two to three months - covering such subjects as politics, mothers around the world, and her travels for humanitarian causes. Her first piece, "Fighting for Mothers," describes her trek to Washington, DC to push for a Senate resolution on maternal health and appears in the December 2008 issue of Marie Claire.

The new gig likely came from all her public support - after Marie Claire ran a piece by Christy in March about mother's health, editor-in-chief Joanna Coles says she got a "ton" of fan letters from readers.

Terry Richardson Under Fire with Numerous Allegations of Exploited Models

>> In 2004, Terry Richardson told the Guardian UK: "I don't like to exploit anybody. That's not my bag. Everyone has fun on my shoots." But in the last couple of weeks, all kinds of lurid stories about his work habits are coming out of the woodwork.

It started last week when reports of Rie Rasmussen confronting the photographer on March 8 in Paris were published by the New York Post. The model, who said that Richardson manipulates young girls into posing for pictures in compromising situations, told the newspaper: "I told [Richardson] what you do is completely degrading to women. I hope you know you only [bleep] girls because you have a camera, lots of fashion contacts and get your pictures in Vogue. Instead of arguing with me, Terry ran out of the bar. Then the next day, he called my agency and complained I called him names in front of clients in Paris. It was the most cowardly thing I have ever seen."

He's made no comment, but has removed certain pictures from his blog »

The April 2007 issue of British GQ celebrates Naomi Campbell with a 22-page editorial by Steven Klein, this ravishing cover, and a 7,000-word interview between Naomi and Piers Morgan, the tabloid newspaper editor who outed her leaving a Narcs Anonymous meeting in 2001, spurring an intense legal battle on privacy rights. Ms. Campbell does not hold back in the interview (at least in the preview I've seen), peppering Mr. Morgan with questions right and left.

Twenty years in fashion for Naomi. And to think, a rep from a modeling agency told Robin Givhan a few days ago that he was trying to get more black models working in Paris, but editors tell him that "People don't see clothes on black models." You know, I can't see Naomi's clothes on that GQ cover, but I can see her shoes just fine.
