Diane von Furstenberg Recovering from Broken Nose After Ski Accident

>> Diane von Furstenberg was planning on spending a week skiing in Aspen, but unfortunately it didn't turn out that way, she emailed WWD: “Barry [Diller] and I were skiing happily. Some Brazilian man, who could not ski, lost control and went straight at me, hitting me badly on my face and ribs (with his camera). I went to the emergency room and then flew to UCLA. I look like Mike Tyson on his worst fight. Broken nose and some light facial fractures. At home in L.A. now waiting to heal. Will be staying here the week because I have my children and grandkids. I guess it could have been worse…but it does NOT look pretty.” She later Tweeted: "I guess i was lucky although i get scared when i look in the mirror." But it sounds like her Fall 2011 collection won't be affected: “Thank god I have Yvan Mispelaere [her creative director] in the sample room.” [WWD]

I did leave him, and I went with other men, but they always ended up being jealous of Barry and not the other way around. At the end, he got me, and I'm happy he got me. He's the pillar of our family." On the subject of her and Diller having separate homes: "In New York, we don't sleep together. I like it this way. It's my decision. Diane von Furstenberg Doesn't Depend on Her Husband, Live with Him

>> Rumors have long surrounded the nature of Diane von Furstenberg and her husband Barry Diller's relationship - before their marriage, he was presumed to be openly gay - and in the February 2009 issue of Town & Country, she addresses their unique approach: "Barry respects me so much. We don't live together during the week, although we go out together. I live on top of my shop; he lives at the Carlyle hotel. It doesn't feel strange at all. I just need a little bit of space. If I can't be alone a little bit, then I lose myself - and I cannot lose myself."

Diane had plenty of experience with unconventional marriage from her first husband, Egon von Furstenberg, who intimated to New York Magazine that he was bisexual. Besides, as she told Town & Country, there are more important things to her in a relationship besides the semantics of sexuality: "Egon was very eligible, good-looking; he's a prince; he's an Agnelli. But marriage was not a goal for me at all. When I got pregnant I was absolutely shocked. The last thing I wanted was for people to look at me like, 'She got him!' So then, more than ever, it was important for me to have a career. I knew what kind of woman I wanted to be - a woman who did not depend on her husband."
