Gaga's Workshop Lands at Barneys

>> Let the countdown begin. Twelve days from now, Barneys New York will unveil Gaga's Workshop: a holiday shopping extravaganza an entire year in the making. The project - a collaboration between Lady Gaga, Nicola Formichetti, Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman, and installation artists Eli Subrack and Christophe Hamaide Pierson - opens Nov. 21, taking over the entire fifth floor of the Barneys Madison Avenue flagship. Eight elaborate shopping stations - a jewelry shop made of a Lady Gaga-faced spider, a bookstore in the shape of a giant pop-up book, a boudoir styled like a giant wig, for example - will sell over 170 limited-edition Gaga-themed products. Among the goodies? Chocolate Christmas ornaments ($6), Gaga-topped snow globes ($95), glittery handmade chocolate skulls ($68), claw-shaped stockings ($65), and a one-of-kind pair of black shoes ($4,100). Also available will be a selection of Lady Gaga's personal childhood holiday favorites - Roald Dahl books, candy lipsticks, malted milk balls, gum balls - hand-picked with help from an expert: her mother.

Gaga's Workshop officially opens at 11:59 p.m. Nov. 21 and will stay open through Jan. 2. Until then, peek elements from the project here, with more products unveiled each day for presale on Barneys' just-launched Gaga's Workshop website. At left, a rendering of the "Gaga Monster" installation that will flank Barneys' 60th Street entrance.

Barneys Said Eyeing Taylor Tomasi Hill for Fashion Director Role

>> After frontrunners Sarah Rutson and Virginia Smith both turned down the recently opened up fashion director role at Barneys (longtime fashion director Julie Gilhart was let go last month), new Barneys CEO Mark Lee is now said to be zeroing in on Marie Claire style and accessories director Taylor Tomasi Hill, who, coincidentally, has often named Rutson as an inspiration. Tomasi Hill joined Marie Claire in August 2009 from Teen Vogue, where she was accessories director. [WWD]

“The Co-op customer runs a little faster and dances to a different beat, so we are reinventing the trunk show concept for them,” said Gilhart, Barneys senior vice president and fashion director.

Derek Blasberg and Friends Kept it Mostly Classy at Barneys Book Launch

In celebration of Derek Blasberg's first book, friends Lauren Santo Domingo (dressed in Vionnet), Chloe Sevigny (in Proenza Schouler), and Dasha Zhukova (in Prabal Gurung) feted the man-about-town to support his newly-released etiquette guide, "Classy: Exceptional Advice for the Extremely Modern Lady".

Guests including Francisco Costa, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Terry Richardson, Chris Benz, Birdie Bell, Tamara Mellon, Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, and Giovanna Battaglia sported illustrated "I'm a tramp" or "I'm a lady" buttons while Blasberg signed books in Barneys New York. Post event, Santo Domingo hosted an intimate dinner party in her apartment with Blasberg's parents (who flew in from St. Louis for the occasion) in attendance.
