>> Atelier Versace kicked off couture week with a star-studded front row, a supermodel-packed runway, and their first couture offering since 2004. Karlie Kloss, Lindsey Wixson, Arizona Muse, Karmen Pedaru, and Josephine Skriver were among those who modeled the 15-look collection, which was heavy on corseted metallic gowns, hot orange and lime minidresses, and futuristic detailing. "You know I’m a sucker for anything glittery," commented Cameron Diaz, who - along with Diane Kruger, Abbie Cornish, and Anna Dello Russo - attended the show.

Versace Returning to Couture Schedule

>> Versace, which hasn't appeared on the official couture calendar since January 2004, is making a return eight years later. The Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture has announced that this upcoming January, the house will show on the first day of couture week, Jan. 23, in the first time slot. Versace never discontinued its Atelier Versace couture line in the interim, opting instead to produce still-life presentations for select editors from 2004 until this upcoming season. A Versace spokeperson had no comment. [WWD]

Donatella Versace presented her spring 2010 Atelier Versace couture collection by appointment only in Paris last January, and this week released images from the look book starring Kasia Struss. With the house on track to be profitable by 2011, its recent well-reviewed collections, and for the first time offering ready-to-wear and accessories online at Net-a-Porter, it looks like 2010 might be a very good year for Donatella and company. Versace Aims for Profitability in 2011 with Job Cuts, Lower-Priced Line

>> Donatella Versace presented her latest Atelier Versace collection during Paris couture this week, all red carpet-ready gowns adorned with "chunks of Swarovski crystal, swags of fine silvery chains, and hologram discs to give a Paco Rabanne-esque edge," as Hamish Bowles reported. But the behind-the-scenes situation at the company isn't quite as glamorous.

Versace just announced that it will eliminate 350 of its 1,360 jobs, representing 26 percent of its workforce, worldwide starting in March and ending in June - part of a plan to return to profitability in 2011.

Donatella is also launching a new collection - Versace Collection - under her creative direction, which will be priced 30 to 40 percent below the house's signature collection. The Fall entree abides by the Versace codes of color, sexiness, prints, and glamour and includes 230 pieces, among them egg-shaped coats in oatmeal, cocktail dresses with lace and tulle insets, and degrade fitted jackets.

>> Chanel and Dior may go full-out with couture presentations, but Donatella Versace prefers to do private appointments in January for Atelier Versace. A gown from her pleat-centric Fall 2008 collection made it to the Oscars on Marisa Tomei last weekend, and now that that's over, it's time for the big reveal: Spring 2009. The collection, modeled by Georgina Stojiljkovic, who seems to be Donatella's favorite couture model, focuses on ruffled red carpet-ready gowns, with a couple of whorled cut-out confections thrown in for good measure.
