A Look Inside Assouline’s Upcoming American Fashion Designers at Home Book

>> The CFDA has more than member designers' mushroom truffle spaghetti recipes to share. Come Sept. 7, American Fashion Designers at Home compiles peeks into the homes of a number of the CFDA's 115 members - including Tory Burch, Francisco Costa, Oscar de la Renta, Johnson Hartig, and Donna Karan, whose homes are all previewed in the gallery below. “This is the ultimate voyeuristic journey,” says the book’s author, Rima Suqi. Most of the images have been published before, but some of the art is brand new, including one of Band of Outsiders designer Scott Sternberg’s trademark Polaroids - this time featuring stacks of books and Troll dolls in his living room.

First Look: Pierre Cardin: 60 Years of Innovation

The fashion house of Pierre Cardin is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year with a retrospective tome published by Assouline. Having worked for Elsa Schiaparelli and Christian Dior in Paris, Cardin opened his namesake couture house in 1950 producing architecturally inspired futuristic fashions. This October the house of Cardin will receive the Fashion Group International's Board of Director's Legend Award for extraoridary innovation in the world of couture, fashion, and perfume. Fall 2009 Fashion Week: Baubles, Baubles, Baubles

>> Fall 2009 is jewelry's time to shine, judging by all of the collaborations debuting during Fashion Week. Besides Alexander Wang working with Paris Kain of AbraxasRex on "industrial," "animalistic" pieces, Bensoni commissioned Bing Bang's Anna Sheffield to do candy heart necklaces with pyramid pendants, Jason Wu enlisted Philip Crangi to add a "tough element" to his collection, Gilles Mendel and Subversive's Justin Giunta teamed up for chains and jewels to will appear on and worked into the J.Mendel collection, Eddie Borgo channeled his triangle obsession for Jen Kao, producing a sharp set of baubles - and he also working with Joseph Altuzarra. Not to mention a variety of other partners in jeweldom: Hervé Van der Straeten and Ruffian, Thakoon and Fenton's Dana Lorenz, DanniJo and Trovata, Roxanne Assouline and Brian Reyes . . .

Needless to say, the bijoux will be aplenty this season - especially because those partnerships are a good way to for jewelry designers get pieces out there without spending money - "You'll see a lot of collaborations going on with designers - like Irene Neuwirth is doing jewelry for Richard Chai - so you can see the talent at the same time," says CFDA executive director Steven Kolb.

CFDA Hosts Parties Two Nights in a Row - A Design Challenge at Anna Wintour's House and a Book Launch

>> The CFDA has had a busy last couple of nights. The 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists, which include Eddie Borgo, Pamela Love, Joseph Altuzarra, and Christian Cota, gathered at Anna Wintour's house on Wednesday night with their model muses for the design challenge cocktail party, which this year required a look for a working woman, inspired by Ann Taylor. Photos of the event can be seen here, and a video of the the finalists presenting to this year's judges can be seen here.

And last night, designers like Francisco Costa - with Bianca Jagger on his arm, Subversive Jewelry's Justin Giunta, Peter Som, and Yigal Azrouel braved the torrential rain to toast the CFDA and Assouline's latest tome, American Fashion Designers at Home. CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg didn't make it - she's been temporarily bedridden with a cold - but plans are already in place for the next CFDA and Assouline collaboration: American Fashion: Designers on the Go, due out in Spring 2011, which will encompass travel guide tips, suggestions, and personal photos of favorite vacation places from designers.

>> Olivier Theyskens No Longer In Talks with Christopher Burch, Exploring Other Options -There had been speculation that Olivier Theyskens was working with Tory Burch's ex-husband Christopher Burch on a new retail concept, but it sounds like the deal is no longer an option - the talks reportedly ended last month and Burch's company confirmed that they are no longer in discussion. In the meantime, Olivier will be making an appearance in New York next Thursday for the Barneys-hosted launch of his The Other Side of the Picture book with Assouline; he's also said to be in talks with several different unspecified groups about a hopefully impending comeback. Designers Diversify: Olivier Theyskens Working on Book, Rodarte Could Have Movie in Works

>> Olivier Theyskens still hasn't found a landing pad, design-wise, but in the meantime, he has a book in the pipeline. In January, Assouline is publishing the 186-page Olivier Theyskens: The Other Side of the Picture, based on a collaboration between the designer and photographer Julien Claessens, who captured the backstage scene for 10-plus years.

Film buffs Rodarte, meanwhile, just signed with LA-based talent agency William Morris Endeavor Entertainment. WWD suggests that "a movie of their own could be in the cards," but for now, the official line is that William Morris plans to “advise the label on opportunities in publishing and film and identify potential strategic partnerships and sponsorships.”

>> CFDA Publishes American Fashion Cookbook Full of Designer's Recipes -Food and fashion don't always go hand in hand, but the CFDA is trying to change that this month with the release of American Fashion Cookbook, a compilation of recipes, illustrations, and food-related quotes from over 100 American designers. No word on what foodies like Jason Wu or Peter Som contributed, but Derek Lam went with Yellowtail Crudo, Isaac Mizrahi submitted Mushroom Truffle Spaghetti, and Diane von Furstenberg, who says she's "never been a great cook," added a recipe for Saturday Night Chicken.
