Highlights from Inside the 2009 Costume Institute Gala: Gisele Dumps Galliano for Versace, Carine Roitfeld Showed

>> Despite all the drama before and after, the Costume Institute Gala itself furnished plenty of notable and quotable moments; for those who were wondering, Carine Roitfeld did attend, even though it was reported that Julia Restoin-Roitfeld would not.

Gisele Bundchen pulled out of John Galliano's table at the last minute, choosing to ride in with the Versace camp instead; it sounds like she might be returning as the label's Fall 2009 face - the New York Times reports that her custom Versace dress "was conceived while she was modeling for [Donatella’s] next ad campaign." Helena Christensen, meanwhile, joked of her Zac Posen dress, which read "Vogue," the V formed by a plunging neckline: “It’s so I can remember whose party I’m at."

And while Kate Moss was on hostess duty (and presumably her best behavior) for Anna Wintour, she still managed to be herself, pulling a big wad of gum out of her mouth when asked about being a muse: “I’m amused. I think it’s quite interesting for somebody to go outside of the box and think that a model actually has had some input into fashion. A lot of the time, the models don’t really get a say.”

The 2011 CFDA Awards Nominees Have Been Announced!

>> CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg and executive director Steven Kolb alternatively took the Swarovski-encrusted podium at von Furstenberg's studio in New York this evening to announce the 2011 CFDA Awards nominees. Alexander Wang continued his strong awards streak with nominations in three categories, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's The Row was nominated for the first time in the Swarovski emerging Womenswear Design category, and Lady Gaga should be expected at the awards ceremony - which will be held June 6 at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall - as she's taking home this year's Fashion Icon award, after, according to von Furstenberg, "overwhelmingly, all the votes [for the category]" went her way - "to someone who started a fashion revolution."

The Swarovski emerging Award for Accessory Design, meanwhile, has four nominees this year because two nominees were tied in votes. And Marc Jacobs apparently emailed von Furstenberg after he found out he will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement award this year, she said: "He's very happy, but he says it's only a half lifetime award because he's only halfway finished."

Anna Wintour flips her bob and giggles, Daria Werbowy waves her arms, plus Alexander Wang, Ashley Olsen, and Karlie Kloss all have their two cents.

The tartan Linda's wearing may be tailored Oscar de la Renta, but it still gives that punkish undertone, especially combined with her face and the fact that she looks like she's about to kick the guy's head off. Funny that this is from a US Vogue editorial in 1991 by Arthur Elgort, because it could definitely fit right in a fall magazine today -- the tartan, the black tights, the ankle boots...
