Speaking of the Super Bowl, Vogue didn't charge Madonna to use its logo during her halftime show - in fact, Condé granted the singer permission to use the logo way back in early January. "We're so very grateful to Madonna to have been part of such a spectacular performance," Anna Wintour said. The performance was viewed by over 100 million people. [Styleite]

American Vogue isn't the only Condé glossy embracing the art of musical performance. In honor of the launch of French Vogue's new website, Emmanuelle Alt has filmed a video in which she dances and lip-synchs along to Wham's "Wake Me Up." The British Advertising Authority has banned a L'Oreal ad because it features a digitally altered image of actress Rachel Weisz. The authority says the photos "misleadingly exaggerated" how well the product - a skin-firming cream - works. [Styleite]

Anna Wintour has been revealed as one of President Obama's major re-election fundraisers. According to a recently published list, Wintour has raised more than $500,000. [Telegraph]

Jonathan Saunders has been named the winner of the British Fashion Council/Vogue Fashion Fund Award. The Scottish designer will receive 200,000 euros to invest in his business. [Huffington Post]

Charlotte Gainsbourg recently released a new double album, and it was produced by Beck. Now she's teamed up with The Horrors' Tom Furse for a remix of her song "Anna." Abbey Lee Kershaw is the face of a new set of Gucci fragrances. The fragrances launch this March and all have names that start with "G" - Gorgeous Gardenia, Gracious Tuberose, Glamorous Magnolia, Generous Violet, Glorious Mandarin - "because of Gucci, of course," explains the brand's creative director, Frida Giannini. Jerry Hall returned to the catwalk this week to walk Jean Luc Amsler's couture show in Paris. The 55-year-old wasn't the only older model to grace the couture runways; Yasmin Le Bon, 47, walked Stéphane Rolland's show wearing a 110-pound dress. [Telegraph]

>> Anna Wintour and Hamish Bowles appeared on CBS Sunday Morning yesterday to talk past Vogue covers and the new online, subscription-based Vogue Archive, which houses every single magazine page published in Vogue's 120-year history.
The video in full is below, but a few highlights from Wintour's interview:
On her first cover in 1988 - an outtake image from a noncover shoot, featuring a model in jeans: "To me, it just said, 'This is something new. This is something different.' And I remember the printers called us up because they thought we'd made a mistake. Just wanting to check that that actually was the cover."
On blazing the trail of celebrity covers: "I remember getting quite a bit of criticism for my first Madonna cover. And you know, 'She'll never sell.' And it was a little bit risky. And it was up something extraordinary, like 40 percent on newsstands. So that was an eye-opener to all of us."
On whether she made that choice because she "knew something": "I didn't know anything. I never pay any attention. I'm sure it's not such a good way to be, but I don't really follow market research. And in the end I do respond to my own instincts. Sometimes they're successful, and obviously sometimes they're not. But you have to, I think, remain true to what you believe in."

But that wasn't the only Kodak moment to come out of the event - Anna Wintour, on her first visit to Japan in 20 years, pounded rice cake paste with a giant wooden hammer at Theory for the cameras (left). All in all, she seemed to be quite enjoying herself: "It's just fantastic to see so much creativity on the street. You really don't see that so much in New York. After all, she did say of quitting the magazine: "I think - my father always said to me that when you get too angry that’s the time to stop. The day I get too angry is the day I take up gardening." Jean Paul Gaultier Calls Anna Wintour "Monstrous," Defends John Galliano

2012 Costume Institute Gala and Exhibit to Focus on Miuccia Prada, Elsa Schiaparelli

>> As rumored, the 2012 Costume Institute Gala and exhibit will focus on Italian designers Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada.

Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada: On Fashion will run May 10 to Aug. 19, and will be underwritten by Amazon alongside Conde Nast. Serving as honorary chair at the May 7 gala is Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, with Carey Mulligan, Miuccia Prada, and Anna Wintour as co-chairs. Baz Luhrmann will act as creative consultant to the exhibition, helping to oversee its design.

Curators Harold Koda and Andrew Bolton aim to examine the way Schiaparelli and Prada broke fashion convention and played with the ideas of good and bad taste as well as their affinity to the art world. “Once we got Schiaparelli as the core part of what we wanted to do, it became a logical jump to Miuccia,” Koda said. “They are both Italian women, and even though Miuccia might not describe herself as a feminist, what we see is these two very strong women with a very strong aesthetic.”

The exhibit is expected to feature about 80 designs by Schiaparelli from the late '20s through the early '50s and by Prada from the late '80s through present day, drawn primarily from The Costume Institute's collection and the Prada archive.

"My performance ensemble included a Philip Treacy fedora, Christian Louboutin rock-star golden crystal shoes, and a Mugler bum freezer that was giving me a bit of Bowie," he wrote of the experience.
