2009 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Unveiled: Anja Rubik, Chanel Iman, and Anna Jagodzinska Work It

>> Abbey Lee Kershaw wasn't feeling well backstage, neither was Eniko Mihalik, but they pulled it together to walk in the 2009 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which taped today in New York City - on a big, sparkly V-shaped runway - and will air on CBS Dec. 1. Many of the girls chatted about what they had for breakfast - coffee and fruit for many - but Anja Rubik, who was convinced to walk the show for the first time by good friends (and fellow walkers) Mayna Linchuk and Caroline Trentini, admitted: "I've decided this will be my starving day today."

This year's big surprise? Heidi Klum decided to walk for the twelfth show in a row, after all, six weeks after giving birth to her fourth child. Adriana Lima, on the other hand, who gave birth Sunday, sat this one out; Emanuela de Paula and Flavia Oliveira, rumored to walk, were also nowhere to be seen.

The show features five sections of twelve outfits each - this year's themes are Star Trooper, All Aboard, Pink Planet, Enchanted Forest, and Romantic Journey. As show stylist Charlotte Stockdale explains it: “We came up with the idea of this girl who lands from outer space in Paris. She gets on a train that comes to a halt in Pinkland, where pink girls get on and off. Then they go into this fairy-tale forest and little lady bugs and butterflies land on them and vines grow up on their clothes. Then, there’s Tick-Tock Time; the wings in this section are based on clocks - there’s one modeled after a pocket watch with metallic feathers. And she ends up in this regal realm of princess-ness, where the wings have Swarovski jewels and peacock feathers.”

Zac Posen, Alexander Wang, Carine Roitfeld (in Tom Ford for Yves Saint Laurent Fall 2002), and Patrick Demarchelier were all in attendance, and Chanel Iman tossed her handbag into the audience as she walked.

2009 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Has More Casting Surprises: Dorothea Barth Jorgensen and Anastasia Kuznetsova

>> Given that the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is taping tomorrow, lots of tidbits have been rolling in between all the fittings and the models' appearance in Times Square this morning. We've gotten previews of Liu Wen's (two!) outfits, as well as those of VS regulars Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Selita Ebanks, and after this morning's appearance, more clues as to who will be walking - including a few surprises.

Spring 2010 runway newcomer Anastasia Kuznetsova and Dorothea Barth Jorgensen both popped up in the Times Square photos, as did Elyse Taylor, Sessilee Lopez, and Russian model Tatiana Kovylina, who walked for Victoria's Secret in 2005. Anja Rubik and Abbey Lee Kershaw have also been confirmed as show castmembers, but have yet to make an appearance, and although unconfirmed, Anna Maria Jagodzinska's photo was on the show casting board, so she may show up as well.

UPDATE: Photos of Anna J. and Edita Vilkeviciute have been spotted on the casting board in a newly posted video; word is Emanuela de Paula will not be walking after all because of a conflicting photoshoot. [YouTube, TFS, TFS]

>> Models Missing from the New York Runways: An Update -With only one more day of New York Fashion Week to go, a number of top models still haven't set foot on a catwalk. Anja Rubik finally appeared at Michael Kors this morning - so did Carmen Kass and Jacquetta Wheeler - but Catherine McNeil - who is supposedly booked all through the New York shows on another job - Toni Garrn, Lara Stone, Anna Maria Jagodzinska, Sigrid Agren - who's rumored not to be doing any shows this season - Tanya Dziahileva, Raquel Zimmermann, and Georgina Stojiljkovic are all totally MIA. In other modeling news, Jessica Stam joined the increasingly large number of models bleaching their hair - she debuted the new hue today at Anna Sui. [Fashin]

Anna Maria Jagodzinska and Sasha Pivovarova, meanwhile, remain Steven Meisel favorites: he photographed each of them - plus Jamie Bochert - for the three Vogue Italia September 2009 covers, marking their second appearances this year on the front of Franca Sozzani's book: Anna's first was January, Sasha's May. Tom Ford Continues to Photograph Own Campaigns for Fall 2009

>> Tom Ford pulled a Karl Lagerfeld last season, not only art directing but photographing his campaigns for the first time, and he's decided to keep up the tradition for Fall 2009. At the time, he told WWD: “I have taken pictures for years, but recently have become more serious about it and have started shooting portraits. I have always felt that an advertising image is in a sense the last layer of the design, and so decided this season to just shoot the campaign myself.“

For men's, he stuck with his campaign regular Jon Kortajarena, who's kind of Tom's equivalent to Karl's Baptiste Giabiconi; as for women's eyewear, Tom photographed Anna Maria Jagodzinska back in May.

Vogue Paris, Three Stylists Turn Out 65 Pages Worth of Models in Iconic Brand Looks

>> Some thought that Vogue Paris's August 2009 cover with Daria Werbowy all decked out in Burberry check looked too blatantly like an advertisement, but in the context of Inez van Lamweerde and Vinoodh Matadin's 65-page accompanying editorial inside - with a plethora of models, each embodying a different brand's identity - it all makes sense.

It's a few of the magazine's usual suspects - Anja Rubik doing Gucci's "glam star" in fauxhawk, Kamila Filipcikova striking an eyepopping McQueen silhouette - plus a few new faces like Regina Feoktistova and Ranya Mordanova in Gianfranco Ferre and Junya Watanabe, respectively. The trifecta of stylists that produced these images - Joe McKenna, Emmanuelle Alt, Carine Roitfeld - prove that there is creativity to be found within the bounds of a studio shoot, after all.

She says she'll be accompanying Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCullough in Proenza Schouler to the Costume Institute Gala tonight. [Style File]

>> Some models are forthcoming about who they're dating, like Doutzen Kroes, who's been seeing DJ Ruckus for a little over a year - they met at a Vogue party in 2007 - while some, like Chanel Iman, like to keep their fans guessing. In the May 2009 issue of Vogue, Chanel - who finally comes clean about dating rapper Tyga, a relationship rumored since late last year - Doutzen, plus four other models pose with their boys for Patrick Demarchelier.

Some relationships blossomed within the industry - Julia Stegner and Steven Pan, who is Steven Meisel's first assistant; Caroline Trentini and Victor Demarchelier, who first saw each other when he was assisting his father Patrick on a shoot three years ago; Arlenis Sosa Pena and model Rene Rodriguez, who met through their agent; while some went outside the industry - Doutzen, Chanel, and Anna Maria Jagodzinska, who sees economics grad student Duncan Winecoff. Curiously missing from the spread (though she appears elsewhere in the issue)? Lily Donaldson and Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld.

Vogue Pays Tribute to Model Muses for May 2009

>> The wait is over. The May 2009 issue of Vogue, wholly dedicated to models in anticipation of this year's Model as Muse Costume Insitute Gala next month has debuted, and Liya Kebede, Natalia Vodianova, Anna Maria Jagodzinska, Isabeli Fontana, Lara Stone, Jourdan Dunn, Raquel Zimmermann, Caroline Trentini,and Natasha Poly all made the final cut, wearing what appears to be Rodarte. This cover, shot by Steven Meisel, is notable not only because of its subjects, but because it marks the third consecutive cover to feature a woman of color on the front.

Inside, Natalia Vodianova, who has been called "the Baby" by Steven Meisel and makeup artist Pat McGrath since they starting working with her, collaborated with them again on a tribute editorial to models past, from Twiggy to Dovima, similar to the one Gisele Bundchen did for Harper's Bazaar last month. The key to Natalia's chameleon act? "I looked at each woman's lips - they're all different."

>> THE MODELIZER -More names have come up for the model-centric May 2009 Vogue cover: Anna Maria Jagodzinska and Lara Stone, the latter of which supposedly fulfills the "unexpected choice" hint indicating a model who's never before appeared in Vogue. Together with the seven names that have already come up - Caroline Trentini, Jourdan Dunn, Raquel Zimmermann, Natasha Poly, Isabeli Fontana, Liya Kebede, and Natalia Vodianova, the rumored nine spots have been fulfilled. The only problem is, the last two - Liya and Natalia - who were identified by RG Vogue, conflict with another source, who won't name names but say two models, one with the first initial K, and the other with the first initial A, were supposedly involved.
