>> Models Missing from the New York Runways: An Update —With only one more day of New York Fashion Week to go, a number of top models still haven't set foot on a catwalk. Anja Rubik finally appeared at Michael Kors this morning — so did Carmen Kass and Jacquetta Wheeler — but Catherine McNeil — who is supposedly booked all through the New York shows on another job — Toni Garrn, Lara Stone, Anna Maria Jagodzinska, Sigrid Agren — who's rumored not to be doing any shows this season — Tanya Dziahileva, Raquel Zimmermann, and Georgina Stojiljkovic are all totally MIA. In other modeling news, Jessica Stam joined the increasingly large number of models bleaching their hair — she debuted the new hue today at Anna Sui. [Fashin]

>> Official day three of New York Fashion Week is over, and still no sign on the runway of usual heavyweights Raquel Zimmermann, Anja Rubik, and Lara Stone — even at shows where they're most likely to be in, like Rag & Bone or Alexander Wang. It seems that Raquel may not be walking in New York — her agency DNA didn't publish a showcard for her, but she's definitely in town — she was all over the place Sept. 10 for Fashion's Night Out.
Lara and Anja, meanwhile, both attended Fashion's Night Out at Burberry in London, not New York. They do, however, each have a showcard for New York, so maybe they're being saved for later on in the week? If they're coming back stateside, that is . . .

>> It turns out the image of Anja Rubik curling around a handbag against a black background was for Gucci's Pre-Fall 2009 collection; the first couple of images from the actual Fall 2009 campaign, photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin back in April, are here. So far, Natasha Poly, Anja Rubik, Raquel Zimmermann, and Myf Shepherd are all pictured — as styled by Emmanuelle Alt — but Jacquetta Wheeler, Freja Beha Erichsen, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Dree Hemingway, and Jamie Bochert have also been mentioned as part of the campaign.

>> Some thought that Vogue Paris's August 2009 cover with Daria Werbowy all decked out in Burberry check looked too blatantly like an advertisement, but in the context of Inez van Lamweerde and Vinoodh Matadin's 65-page accompanying editorial inside — with a plethora of models, each embodying a different brand's identity — it all makes sense.
It's a few of the magazine's usual suspects — Anja Rubik doing Gucci's "glam star" in fauxhawk, Kamila Filipcikova striking an eyepopping McQueen silhouette — plus a few new faces like Regina Feoktistova and Ranya Mordanova in Gianfranco Ferre and Junya Watanabe, respectively. The trifecta of stylists that produced these images — Joe McKenna, Emmanuelle Alt, Carine Roitfeld — prove that there is creativity to be found within the bounds of a studio shoot, after all.

>> First Look: Anja Rubik for Balmain Fall 2009 —Stylist Emmanuelle Alt has a new go-to girl, and her name is Anja Rubik. Balmain is one of the few major brands who isn't sticking to an ad formula that already works this season, replacing Spring 2009 face Daria Werbowy, posed in front of a country diner, with Balmain stylist Alt's favorite Anja, surrounded by a linear sea of orange and yellow. >> Anja Rubik scores Balmain; First Look at Lily Allen for Chanel—It appears that Anja Rubik is increasingly becoming an Emmanuelle Alt favorite — the Vogue Paris fashion director recently styled Anja for her first major Vogue cover, and now Anja is appearing in the new Balmain Fall 2009 ads, as spotted in the brand's Paris boutique (Alt is Balmain's stylist). Meanwhile, Lily Allen's Fall 2009 Chanel handbag ads — for the launch of the new Chanel Coco Cocoon line — don't come out until October, but Chanel posted a photographic peek from the shoot, with Lily in crown. >> ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL —The first of many Fall 2009 Gucci ads has dropped, this one featuring Anja Rubik. Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin still did the photographing honors, but the look is a hard-edged change from the pastoral, verdant ads of seasons past. Expected in upcoming images: perennial Gucci faces like Jacquetta Wheeler, Raquel Zimmermann, Freja Beha Erichsen, Natasha Poly, and Abbey Lee Kershaw, with a few surprises — Myf Shepherd, Dree Hemingway, and Jamie Bochert. >> Anja Rubik has been in the game for a number of years, snagging her fair share of runway work and high-profile campaigns, but it's taken until now for her to join her contemporaries in scoring a major Vogue cover. She'll feature on Vogue Paris's prime spot for not one, but two months, since it's the magazine's June/July 2009 issue. The cover was photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, but inside, Anja stars alongside Natasha Poly in an Emmanuelle Alt-styled, Terry Richardson-lensed madcap romp around Paris.

>> Before heading back to the States from Venice, a number of Chanel Cruise attendees — and show strutters like Toni Garrn and Siri Tollerod — made a stop over in Vienna for the annual Life Ball AIDS charity spectacular Saturday evening. The town hall was surrounded by 2.5 million liters of water trucked in for this year's marine theme, and the guest list topped 40,000.
Amber Valletta opened the motorcade in a blue crystal-covered chariot, Anja Rubik was in attendance wearing her favorite label as of late, Balmain, and Sessilee Lopez sported a blonde wig for one of her turns during the catwalk festivities. Heather Marks, Iris Strubegger, Emina Cunmulaj, Eliza Cummings, Kinga Rajzak, Sara Blomqvist all also participated, plus first-timer Stephanie Carta, who described the experience as "a fantasy world of glitter and botox and some kind of neverending celebration."

>> Matthew Williamson launched a trippy online-only campaign video with H&M earlier this week, but his is not the only brand that has recently become fascinated with online video. Chanel just posted the first teaser for their Cruise 2010 show, taking place next Thursday, May 14 at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Lido Resort in Venice.
Karl Lagerfeld, according to press release, chose Venice as the newest Chanel runway hosting ground because Coco Chanel visited the city in the summer of 1920 to promote her beach pyjamas and soak up inspiration. A symbol that may play into the upcoming collection? The lion — Chanel collected many lion figurines while visiting, as she was a Leo. Two more cruise teaser videos will be posted under Chanel News on May 11 and May 13.
The brand has also recently launched a video highlighting their pink and jade Fall 2009 accessories, with guest appearances by a number of models, including Chanel favorites like Coco Rocha, Eniko Mihalik, Lily Donaldson, Anja Rubik, and Jessica Stam. But the best video added to their library is "Fitting Room Follies," a short film done by Karl Lagerfeld with Lara Stone trying on the Fall 2009 collection (NSFW) — you can hear him directing Lara in the background over the music.
