Alessandra Ambrosio reprised Demi Moore's famous naked and pregnant Vanity Fair cover in a new ad for Brazilian jewelry company Vivara. The Victoria's Secret Angel, who recently announced she's having a baby boy, accentuated her nude figure with statement earrings, a bangle, and a row of chunky rings. [Stylelist]
From Karl Lagerfeld in a strappy black bathing suit to Andy Warhol and Halston, Antonio Lopez photographed a view of the fashion industry in the '70s that few had seen until now. Mauricio Padilha and Roger Padilha will publish a selection of those photos in The Antonio Lopez Book, set to debut this September. [Fashionista]
Carey Mulligan is reported to have worn a custom Versace dress when she married Mumford & Sons lead singer Marcus Mumford this weekend. While no pictures of the dress have surfaced, it's been described as simple, backless, and ivory colored. [Grazia]
Victoria Beckham's stint as creative design executive for Land Rover has yielded a limited-edition Range Rover Evoque. The car features rose-gold-plated metal finishings and mohair floor mats and is equipped with a four-piece luggage set. The Fashion Institute of Technology will live stream its graduate runway show for the first time this year. Those who don't have a seat for the show - invitees include Calvin Klein, Diane von Furstenberg, and Michael Kors, among others - can watch it online at FIT's Future of Fashion website or in 3D at the school's Katie Murphy Amphitheatre. Vogue, W, and Glamour Among Fashion Titles Nominated For National Magazine Awards

>> Only seven of the scores of titles nominated for National Magazine Awards this year are dedicated to fashion. Many deserve wins, but because some are competing against each other, not all of them are going home with trophies.

Interview, the fashion and culture monthly founded by Andy Warhol in 1969, was nominated for the first time in 19 years. It's up against GQ for a general design award, and it's competing against both GQ and Vogue for a general photography award. Interview editorial director Fabien Baron told WWD, "I've never been the type for awards but it's great for the magazine and great for our staff."

W was nominated for the feature photography in its August 2011 cover story about Tilda Swinton, and so too was Vogue for its March photo story starring Amber Valletta (at left) called "Lady Be Good." Meanwhile, Glamour was nominated for the personal service award for its June feature story titled "The Secret That's Killing Four Women a Day." Esquire was nominated for its special section "Man at His Best," and its sister magazine Marie Claire was nominated for its public interest feature "The Big Business of Breast Cancer."

The National Magazine Awards will be presented in New York City on May 3, but for now take a look at some of the work that got these fashion magazines recognized.

>> A casual comment was made at a dinner party: "Gee, Marc Jacobs is the new Andy Warhol." Fast forward, and bam! Enter Interview's June/July 2008 issue, Marc Jacobs on the cover complete with white makeup and Warholian white wig.

The accompanying article focus on Marc's obsession with art, his artist collaborations with the likes of Takashi Murakami and Stephen Sprouse, his art-inspired advertising, and his club-like stores - "Andy was always talking about how new art is business art," cover story writer Glenn O'Brien explained. However, Marc doesn't necessary agree with the comparison:

I don't think of myself that way. Warhol is Warhol. He's practically a god. I thought, 'I'm going to get a lot of hell for this.'

But he did have a good time on the 12-hour editorial shoot with photographer Mikael Jansson: "Even though my scalp and eyelids were completely sore, it was all worth it. It was just a ball." Fun for us, too - when else are you going to see Marc in falsies and his own Louis Vuitton heels?

the heiress who actually deserves attention

>> Before the time of Paris Hilton, another Manhattan heiress was stealing the limelight - back in the 60's, that is. Edie Sedgwick, best known as artist Andy Warhol's muse, had style and persona that no heirhead these days can even begin to compete with.

Edie was never a fashion victim -- she was fashion forward. She went to society parties barefoot, or in a black leotard accessorized with oodles of bangles, necklaces, her trademark chandelier earrings, and her signature black tights. Her hair was pixie-ish, dyed to match Warhol's. She spent hours on her makeup, rimming her eyes in kohl, adding false eyelashes, filling in her eyebrows to Elizabeth Taylor-style, darkening her beauty mark, playing down her mouth in pearlized lipsticks.

Although her influence has always been around -- think Kate Moss' blonde bob a few years back (left), or Samaire Armstrong's look on The OC (right), it seems that Edie is back on the fashion radar, full speed ahead. Katie Holmes has been tapped to play Edie in the biopic Factory Girl (named for Warhol's studio The Factory), set to come out later this year.

John Galliano attributed the inspiration for both his Fall/Winter 2005 haute couture and ready-to-wear collections for Christian Dior to Edie. The chandelier earrings worn in the couture line were the spitting image of some that Edie used to wear, and the models' dark eyeliner, beauty spot, and pale lipstick are clearly a tribute as well (left). The Breton stripes that Edie and Warhol were so fond of were ubiquitous in the ready-to-wear line (right), and Edie's leotards showed up in the couture line. Her influence is even popping up in other F/W 2005 RTW collections - like the Emanuel Ungaro dress on the left, for instance.

So prepare yourselves for a fall of black, black, black, girls -- whether it be eyeliner, boots, skirts, tights, or for the daring: leotards. This is one heiress that you can channel and not be a fashion flop. As for you, Paris Hilton -- watch out -- Edie's Ghost of Fashion Past might just be out to get you.

Besides her style, Edie was a very interesting person -- to find out more about her habit of sleeping with a lit ciggy, her untimely death, her 1960's plastic surgery, or her rejection by Warhol, I recommend Edie: American Girl by Jean Stein or the should-be documentary Ciao! Manhattan.

Marc Jacobs Wants Children, But Doesn't Want to Rule the World

In fact, regarding the social front, he admitted that he's "a bit socially uncomfortable, but a very good spectator." And he "[does]n't want to rule the world or anything."

But he is very passionate about getting married, The Cut reports.

"I don't want to get all political, but I don't ever want to be told who to love or how to love. Marriage is not just a heterosexual institution. Lorenzo and I are getting married. We’re buying a house together, we want to have children. There needs to be some protection in place in case something should happen to one of us. It’s not all rice throwing and a bouquet."

poor, poor little rich girl

>> Sienna's Edie biopic better be good, because I sure am getting myself all worked up about it. I found a link to Andy Warhol's film of Edie -- Poor Little Rich Girl. The first half is kind of worthless, because Warhol filmed it out of focus, so you can't really see anything. But the second half is wonderful -- lots of up close shots of Edie, and she gets dressed at the very end -- makes me want to wrap myself up in a leopard coat. Not that she didn't have my favor before, but this little waif is a cutie.
