Andre Leon Talley Gets a Museum Gallery of His Own, Wants It Perfumed

>> Savannah College of Art and Design, of which Andre Leon Talley is a board member, will as of Saturday have an Andre Leon Talley Gallery in its new museum of art.

Talley has been helping the museum build a costume collection out of his own archives and donations from friends. The first exhibit will include the black gown Penelope Cruz wore to the most recent Costume Institute Gala, sent by Oscar de la Renta; a black sequined wrap dress, sent by Diane von Furstenberg; a Fall 2007 Prada coat trimmed with plastic fringe and feathers; a column dress trimmed with natural string from Tom Ford's debut womenswear show; and the blue satin Manolo Blahniks featured in the Sex and the City movie.

"The only thing I haven't thrust upon them yet is that I want fragrance wafting through the ventilation system," Talley said. "Either Oscar de la Renta's Live in Love, or Diane von Furstenberg's Diane."

It sounds like he might get his wish. Paula Wallace, president and a founder of the college, said of the perfume idea: "He has not mentioned that to me, but if Andre wants it, he gets it. The multisensory concept is so important. We learn, we feel, we think, we smell. Actually, I think it's a grand idea."

"Developing television and online programming based on Conde Nast personalities, articles, and general brands is the first priority, although movies are also a focus." Dawn Ostroff, who stepped down as president of The CW earlier this year and has helped develop shows like Gossip Girl and America’s Next Top Model, will be running Conde Nast Entertainment. Kelly Cutrone will replace him for cycle 18, starting early next year. “It’s all good in the neighborhood,” Talley said of his departure. “I had a fabulous time. It was a mutual agreement. There is no unhappiness, at all." Cutrone, for her part, says of her upcoming role: "I am a huge fan of America's Next Top Model and have watched the show for years. Joe Zee's All on the Line Renewed; Andre Leon Talley Denies Filming Rumored Reality Show (Updated)

>> Joe Zee's Sundance Channel reality show, All on the Line, has been picked up for a second season on the eve of the premiere season's finale episode, airing tonight. The second cycle will debut in November.

And it sounds like another editor is working towards his own reality project. Andre Leon Talley, who has put in time as a judge on the past three seasons of America's Next Top Model, was spotted with camera crews trailing behind him this past weekend while he was in Savannah for SCAD's annual senior fashion show. Although the crew told onlookers they were filming for Top Model, it's rumored to be be for a reality show focusing on Talley, instead.

>> Over the weekend, Teen Vogue held its annual Fashion University in New York for budding fashion industry followers, and Anna Wintour gave a seminar in which she was surprisingly frank. A few highlights, relayed from the Twitterverse:

When previewing the cover of the "Vogue's Best Dressed" bookazine, which is out in November and features Blake Lively in a gold dress, she shed some light on why Vogue cover subjects tend to repeat: "We pick girls we can go back to. It was hard to ignore Blake when she came on the scene . . . I told Tonne [Goodman, Vogue fashion director] to 'Vogue her.' We did her hair, gave her glamorous clothes . . ."

On the controversial Lebron James and Gisele Bundchen April 2008 Vogue cover: "It got me in a lot of trouble. Uh, that was an interesting experience."

On working with Andre Leon Talley: "[He] used to write me color-coded letters. If they were blue, he was depressed. If they were gold, I was golden"

On casting models: "Gisele Bundchen, along with Kate Moss, is a phenomenon. I wish models knew they have to have a personality."

On turning down jobs: "I was offered the editorship at British Vogue. But London felt small-time."

And, on losing jobs: "I worked for American Harper's Bazaar . . . they fired me. I recommend that you all get fired, it's a great learning experience."

Andre Leon Talley seconded that emotion in a recent post on Vogue.com: "Lagerfeld had cast the show with a slightly more curvaceous model named Crystal Renn, not seen on any Chanel catwalk before. This in itself was groundbreaking for the house, but there was also the return of personality models encouraged to be themselves instead of robotic look-alikes. 'Each girl was cast because of her sense of individuality,' Lagerfeld said enthusiastically."
