>> Just as Whitney Port announced today that The City is kaput, another former MTV star - who also happens to be Tommy Hilfiger's daughter - revealed that she's getting into the design business. Hilfiger, who has styled Nary Manivong's collection for the past two seasons, is teaming up with the designer to create a brand-new line, Nahm. “It’s all shirtdresses of different fabrics, lengths and cuts,” said Hilfiger, who plans to introduce the line for Fall 2011 and manufacture it entirely in New York. Instead, the New York band will perform at the Metropolitan Opera House to a packed fashion crowd - maybe Agyness gets a pass? - including Tommy's daughter Ally Hilfiger, who has a new project of her own: She's styling the Nary Manivong show on Friday, Sept. 10.

Donatella Brings that Versace Glamour to the Whitney Museum Art Gala

>> For the second year running, the Whitney Art Musem Gala was Donatella Versace's party. Editors - Olivier Zahm, Lauren Santo Domingo, Glenda Bailey - commingled with designers - Peter Som, Moises de la Renta, Ruffian's Claude Morais and Brian Wolk - and a smattering of models like Chanel Iman and Hana Soukupova. Christopher Kane's Versus designs even made an appearance - the Fall 2009 crystal shoes were on Byrdie Bell's feet, and Taylor Momsen - who seems to be close with the Versaces, particularly Allegra, changed into a black Spring 2010 Versus frock for the Studio Party post-Gala Dinner.

Donatella was fashionably late to the party - two hours in, she was nowhere to be found; perhaps she was still upstairs tending to VIPs - as was Lindsay Lohan, who swept in, all blonde hair and gold dress - earning comparisons to Donatella's trademark look. Lohan said she came "for Donatella" before beelining to Brian Atwood for a chat. Keeping with the "art chic" theme, the walls of one whole room at the party downstairs was covered in paper for guests to scribble on.

Jen Kao Puts Up a Psychedelic Collection Filled With Acid Rainbow Hues and Aquatic Fringe For Fall 2011

>> Jen Kao has quite the cult following and the list only seems to be growing: Ally Hilfiger was spotted sitting front and center in addition to Sarah Rutson, who went backstage to congratulate Kao after the show. For Fall 2011, the designer took us on a psychedelic adventure - quite the departure from her beachy Spring 2011 line - filled with vibrant fringe, aerial planetary prints, and multi-colored fur. “I think that appearance-wise, it might seem like an acid trip,” Kao told the WSJ, post-show. “But I was inspired by finding images that were non-specific, whether they were underwater or space or something you can’t quite place.”

The collection was vibrant, as Kao experimented with rich hues of green, teal, blue, purple, orange, and yellow - along with more muted colors such as grey and ink. Sharp shouldered printed blazers, colored fringed dresses, iridescent flared pants, shimmering lurex leggings paired, and purple satin platform boots all eluded to a Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie was party of the runway soundtrack - meets Avatar vibe. Furthermore, stylist Keegan Singh finished off the looks with gold eyebrows, funky satin platform boots, and peacock fingertips. “I think it’s a really fine line, especially with this collection,” said Kao. “I wanted to be as fun and as free as I could be, but if I have one weakness, it’s figuring out what to edit.” And the fun didn’t stop there: Kao’s after party at the Bowery Hotel kept everyone on the same cerebral wavelength with face-painting and even a bounce house.
