Juergen Teller is meeting Cathy Horyn for a free, open to the public, discussion about his work at New York's Visual Arts Theater Sept. 12, 7 pm [On the Runway]

Zac Posen explains his move from the big Tent at Bryant Park to a smaller Altman Building show for 400: “For this collection, an intimacy between model, clothing and audience could only be achieved in a smaller space. I really enjoyed the experience of a more intimate show after Pre-Fall 2009, followed by our successful Resort 2010, which was held at my downtown atelier." [WWD]

Spring 2010 New York Fashion Week: Ralph Lauren Expands to Three Shows; Two Designers Dare to Overlap with Fashion's Night Out

>> New York Fashion Week is still over a month away, but Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week just released its official calendar today and the Fashion Calendar - which shows all of the shows not included in the Bryant Park festivities - has appeared online, so we can get an idea of what will be going down in that crazy time period between Sept. 9 and Sept. 17.

Despite the industry's economic doldrums, a few designers are adding an extra show for Spring 2010 - Ralph Lauren is upgrading from two showings to three in his usual morning-of-the-last-day spot; Phillip Lim is following in close friend Richard Chai's footsteps, doing a two separate shows this season, one for men's and one for women's, rather than combining them like he usually does; and Thom Browne, who chose to show his Fall 2009 collection in Florence instead of at New York Fashion Week, is back on the schedule with not one but two shows.

Predicting the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards

>> The CFDA has been busy lately, discussing the possibility of sponsoring sample sales for designers who don't have enough resources to do it on their own, commissioning books - including a fashion-related cookbook, and announcing an upcoming three-year partnership with Mattel. But Monday night, we'll learn which of the 2008 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund nominees will take home top honors, $200,000, and business advice, who will score one of the two runners-up titles and the $50,000 that comes with them, and who will try again next year.

The first award was given in 2004, with top honors going to Proenza Schouler; since then, Trovata (2005), Doo.Ri (2006), and Rogan (2007) have taken the top prize, and the likes of 3.1 Phillip Lim, Philip Crangi, Rodarte, Thakoon, Derek Lam, and Thom Browne have all been runners-up. Without doubt, the winner generally has name recognition - and is in favor at Vogue - but tends to not be the biggest name in the group (i.e. Rogan over Phillip Lim last year).

Is Phillip Lim's Free Tote Offensive?

>> There's nothing wrong with enticing shoppers with free goodies in this economy, and Phillip Lim is known for his ethnically diverse runways, so this one stumps me a little.

During the month of December, shoppers at Lim's stores will be offered the choice of two denim totes with any purchase - one embroidered with Lim's initials, and the other below. The only problem is, the first image that popped into my head upon seeing the below tote was not a refreshing one - it reminds me of blackface. I'm sure that wasn't the intention, but still - not the image you want your shoppers to be transmitting freely around, and especially not when it is traceable back to your store.

Pamela Love and Eddie Borgo: Crown Jewelers in the Making

>> When Fashion Week comes a-knockin', we all get caught up in the parade of clothes, shoes, and handbags . . . but sometimes we forget to keep an eye on the jewelry, too. It's important to note - especially this season, when the bigger the jewelry, the better - and two fledgling designers have really emerged as ones to watch: Eddie Borgo, 30, and Pamela Love, 26.

They're both well-connected: Eddie dates stylist Keegan Singh, Pamela shares a workspace with Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. Pamela is best known for her clawed cuffs that ended up in the Fall 2008 Gap ads, while Eddie just two weeks ago announced his namesake line. The two were tapped to collaborate on pieces for Marchesa's Spring 2009 collection, and were snapped together last week at 3.1 Phillip Lim, for which Eddie created stained glass stunners. For the record, he also worked with Jen Kao, Staerk, and Frank Tell on their Spring 2009 collections - but what a pair, these two.

Phillip Lim Sews Up Another Crowd Pleaser for Spring 2009

>> Phillip Lim created the mascot skirt of Fashion Week earlier this year - not kidding, I've seen it on at least one person every day this week - and if the attendance to his newest collection's presentation is any indication, Spring 2009 will be smooth sailing for 3.1 Phillip Lim - the Tent was packed to the gills with fans, including friends Richard Chai and Irina Lazareanu, both sitting front row.

Christian Louboutin designed ruffled heels for the collection, eliciting covetousness in many - in fact, the whole Spring 2009 season is about ruffles for Phillip. The treatment in some of the dresses and skirts reminded me of a tamed version of Marc Jacobs's Spring 2007 ruffles, but among the hazy smoke that hovered on the runway, the real standouts emerged - the stiff, open-edged zipper pieces, and the jewelry Eddie Borgo made for the occasion.

Irina Lazareanu's Big Break

>> It's been an odd Fashion Week without Carine Roitfeld's impeccable style or Tanya Dziahileva's cherubic face, but another person of note was missed - on the runways, anyway - Irina Lazareanu. She's been spotted at Monday's Vogue/Cole Haan party in Missoni, yesterday's V magazine party in a sequined top, denim cutoffs, and a feather, and also yesterday, front row at 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Sitting front row isn't a new thing for Irina - she was in row one last season at Erin Fetherston - but what is new? For the first time in three years, she's taking a break from the runway: "To be honest, I wanted to take a season off." But just in New York - she will be walking "a little" in Milan and Paris.
