Coutorture Community Must Reads

We just want to hug Spork Fashion when she says she has a Fashion Week hangover after her time in Los Angeles as we feel like we are in a perpetual state of fashion week haze just about all the time.

We just want to hug Spork Fashion when she says she has a Fashion Week hangover after her time in Los Angeles as we feel like we are in a perpetual state of fashion week haze just about all the time. Make sure to check out her review of Crispin and Basilio

Senora Cartera reviews the Foley and Corinna Embossed Snake City Clutch. We find it quite handsome but then we are all over exotics pretty much all the time.

Chic and Untroubled reminds us that making a political statement with fashion isn't as important as actually engaging in civic behavior.

Thrift Eye goes through her archives to see if she does indeed have a way with mixing patterns. We are going with yes.

The Fashion Bomb went to the Levi's Holiday preview. Thank god someone went as we swore it was next week. We are so bad with events you know that?

Makeup and Beauty blog has 5 tips for storing your makeup but we are mostly fascinated with the creepy photo of a MAC lipstick in a tiny coffin. Is it a commentary on throwing away makeup that is past its sell by date maybe?

Coutorture Community Must Reads 9/24

Coutorture's community has plenty of material to work with this week thanks to the nearly instant access we all enjoy to images and reviews of Milan Fashion Week so its little surprise that the catwalk was on everyone's mind.

Coutorture's community has plenty of material to work with this week thanks to the nearly instant access we all enjoy to images and reviews of Milan Fashion Week so its little surprise that the catwalk was on everyone's mind.

Chic and Untroubled has a few trenchant remarks about billowing dresses at Gucci, Catwalk Queen is sorry they haven't given more time to Alessandro Dell'Acqua in the past, The Fashion Pad has a bazillion (OK more like 6-7) Milan show reviews, J'Adore Couture thinks Milan goes from bad to worse, Senora Carter reviews the bags at Burberry, Season Five Style wonders why everyone is hating on Gucci, and finally for something positive Fashionation writes a love letter to Prada.

And in case you just can't think about Milan anymore Business of Fashion has a report on the new H&M in Japan. Very informative and quite detailed so we highly suggest checking it out. Need something really happy making? Temptalia has reviews and swatches of Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Lipstick.

Its easy to take potshots at hiptser fashion as being a bit silly.
Its easy to take potshots at hiptser fashion as being a bit silly. Unwearable clothing is a pastime in our hood and a few of your editors have been known to indulge. But we were never completely convinced that the Williamsburg set was dim. But it would seem a few other designers are not totally sold on just how bright they are as a demographic Stained Couture introduced us to this Marc by Marc Twinsie Cardigan. And then we saw it again on Chic and Untroubled. Sure its a bit cute that it has the two tone action going on. Every diffusion line needs a design gimmick in order to justify its price tag as far as we are concerned. But then we came across this pair of American Apparel leggings that is going the two tone route as well. Is this some sort of subtle kindergarten nudge to help us all remember which arm or leg is our "other left" appendage? In which case wearing both garments at the same time is sure to help drunk or otherwise addled fashion hipsters to remember how to turn left at Houston.

Old Navy's Crowd Pleaser

We realize we peddle some fairly expensive stuff on Coutorture but style isn't just about the price tag.
We realize we peddle some fairly expensive stuff on Coutorture but style isn't just about the price tag. Discovering when store has good merchandising is the greatest talent of a good market editor. Thankfully our small staff doesn't have to keep on top of everything by ourselves. Community member Chic and Untroubled has tapped into Old Navy's unexpectedly impressive accessory design with a feature on their summer sandals. And indeed we are impressed with the combination of design and price. Half the time lower priced retailers simply rely on bad facsimiles to sell their wears (Steve Madden we are looking at you). From metallic slides to strappy gladiators with a flat peep-toe espadrille thrown in for good measure, Old Navy manages to give us styles we like without feeling like an overt copy cat. And better yet, the footwear fits into their cheap, simple and fun branding so their regular customers and market editors alike can both happy! For More Community Shoutouts Click Here

Chic and Untroubled Shoutout: Fresh and Free

We have the privilege of working with amazing models here on Coutorture.
We have the privilege of working with amazing models here on Coutorture. And thus we follow avidly their trials and tribulations to get noticed in order to score the big advertising jobs. One of the best ways? Lots and lots of editorial work! Chic and Untroubled points us to a quip by Rosie Mortimer on the honor of shooting with Mario Testino in Vogue. Honor isn't very well paid it turns out. But getting noticed, getting the tear sheet, and having people talk about you will hopefully lead to the paying jobs. And lord knows editorial is more fun than commercial anyway right? Right? Dude, that is what my agent tells me. Call this the reason we love working with fresh faces. Nothing like the untested girls to get you that can do attitude!
