Colorful ensembles are always playful, but there is something so chic and understated about a solid-hued look, which is why we adore how these six celebrities rocked their monochromatic looks. Melissa George worked a red-hot ensemble with bow-accent Christian Louboutin pumps in Hollywood, Kate Bosworth went black on black in Hugo Boss in Berlin, while Ashley Greene blushed in a neutral Emilio Pucci mini and textured Casadei pumps in LA. In a world where prints are prominent, it's easy to push aside classic monochromatic ensembles, but next time you're heading out on the town, take a cue from these stylish stars.

Plus, a one-on-one interview with Michael Kors at the WWD 100th Anniversary bash, and Ashlee Simpson tells us her style secret!
We talk to January Jones's makeup artist to learn her secrets to creating a modern smoky eye using a gunmetal gray color palette. Monochrome in menswear is not a new concept but this season there were some looks that were notably aggressive in their sameness. The number of all-black ensembles that came down the Fall 2009 menswear catwalks frankly made our heads spin but there were also a significant number of more experimental instances--and those quickly became our favorites. Green and red were popular colors as were browns made multi-textural with the inclusion of buttery soft leathers. Check out our favorites below.
Monochromatic outfits are popular for spring and there is no better example than the head-to-toe nude looks that came down this season's runways. Matching shades can be difficult, so don't worry too much that they be exact. Just keep your eye out for great nude separates and by the time the weather turns, you'll have your look ready to go. We love a monochromatic look and this one, as was part of the Obedient Sons & Daughters Spring 2009 collection, tops our list. We love the boyishness of this buttoned up shirt, especially because it's paired with sexy platform sandals. Above, some alternative options to get this look now at a slightly lower price point--although, we wouldn't blame you if you waited for the real thing.
