>> Here they are — the best of the red carpet looks, straight from the 2012 Golden Globe Awards. Early on, the arrivals hit a high note with a bevy of striking — and somewhat surprising — ensembles: Claire Danes — who later won best actress in a television series for her work in Homeland — wore a graphic, backless J. Mendel; and Piper Perabo turned heads in voluminous Theyskens' Theory. From there, the gorgeous dresses just kept coming — with lots of designers turning up multiple times. There was Vera Wang for both Sofia Vergara and Madeleine Stowe, Prada for Zooey Deschanel and Freida Pinto, Lanvin for Emma Stone and Natalie Portman, and Dior for Charlize Theron and Mila Kunis. There was also plenty of Zac Posen, which was worn not only by Reese Witherspoon, but also by Elle Macpherson. >> After the great unveiling yesterday during a press conference, Mario Sorrenti's "unsexy" version of the Pirelli calendar — for 2012 — was celebrated last night at the Park Avenue Armory in New York. Six of the calendar's 12 models were in attendance, joined by Sorrenti's family, Valentino Garavani, Vera Wang, and more.

>> Art Basel Miami is officially under way today, but a few fashion houses got a head start on the festivities yesterday. Swarovski hosted a dinner at Soho Beach House, Dior unveiled its first pop-up shop — and first artist collaboration, with Anselm Reyle — and Fendi opened its "Craft Alchemy" installation, drawing a colorfully dressed crowd that included Giovanna Battaglia, Naomi Campbell, and Dasha Zhukova.

>> Burberry brought its British friends and faces — Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Cara Delevingne, Alexa Chung — to Paris last night for the opening of its newest and biggest store in Paris. Christopher Bailey, too, was on-site at the 10,000-square-foot flagship — which spans four floors and is located at 56 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré — and had plans to eat steak-frites while in town. After the store cocktail, the crowd decamped to the British ambassador's residence nearby, where British pop band The Feeling gave a live performance and Chung DJed.

>> This evening at London's Savoy Theatre, a who's who of British fashion gathered for The British Fashion Council's annual awards. Victoria Beckham, accepting her Designer Brand of the Year award from presenter Marc Jacobs, told the crowd, "I am SO nervous," before shedding a few tears and adding: "This is rubbish." Alexa Chung, who took home the British Style award — which is decided by a public vote — dedicated her award to "girls who dress like awkward boys." Kate Hudson, presenting Red Carpet Award to Stella McCartney, regaled the audience with an anecdote about the dress McCartney designed for her to wear to her first Oscars: "I wore Stella and made every worst-dressed list. The next day, I called Stella, and she said, 'Face it babe, it was the hair.'" And finally, Sarah Burton, who took home Designer of the Year, called the award "the icing on the cake for what has been an amazing year."

>> The long-awaited Gaga's Workshop is now officially open at Barneys in New York.

Lady Gaga was on hand last night — in a custom Chanel couture dress, specially designed by Karl Lagerfeld for the occasion — to cut the ribbon and welcome inside the likes of Prabal Gurung, Carolyn Murphy, and Alexander Wang.

The store's fifth floor is completely transformed until Jan. 2, filled with chocolate Alexander McQueen armadillo shoes, studded press-on nails, and candle replicas of Gaga’s head that cry when lit. Inflatable cartoonish sculptures and taxicab wraps promoted the opening around the city, and Barneys's windows, too, have been Gaga-fied. "My favorite window I think is [the] one window that looks like my boudoir and it's covered in blonde hair," Gaga told WWD. "It's gorgeous."

Despite all the expenditure, Barneys expects to break even on the promotion, its chief executive Mark Lee said. Twenty-five percent of the workshop's sales will go to Gaga's new Born This Way Foundation, which focuses on youth empowerment; Lee added that the store hopes to raise over $1 million for the cause.

>> Chanel and New York's Museum of Modern Art honored Pedro Almodovar last night at the museum's annual film benefit. “Everyone loves Pedro Almodóvar,” Karl Lagerfeld said of the lengthy guest list. “He is a genius.”

Many were thus dressed in Chanel — Sarah Jessica Parker, Anna Wintour, Elizabeth Olsen, Chloe Moretz — save a few: Lara Stone came in Calvin Klein, Joan Smalls in Tom Ford, Miranda Kerr in Peter Pilotto, and Karen Elson in Roberto Cavalli.

>> Last night at Skylight studios in New York, the 2011 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners were announced. Joseph Altuzarra, a favorite the past two years running, took home this year's prize — $300,000 and a year-long mentorship. But the impact of the award lasts much longer than a year, CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg explained: "Once you are in the Fashion Fund, we will protect you and continue to provide you with opportunities.” Pamela Love and Creature of the Wind's Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters were named runners-up, collecting $100,000 each.

Calvin Klein gave this year's keynote speech, focusing on his own days as a young designer. “I started out with less money than probably all of you nominees tonight,” he told the crowd. Of coming up in the '60s and ’70s, he noted: “I dealt with truck men, unions, and gangsters. I got a call from the Gambinos one day, telling me, ‘We are your truck men.’”

Altuzarra's friend and the 2008 Fashion Fund winner, Alexander Wang, told him to "just zone out" during Klein's speech, and just before Rooney Mara announced Altuzarra as winner, von Furstenberg went over to the designer's table, pinched his cheek, and asked him something in French. “She asked me if I went to pee,” Altuzarra told The New York Times. When the announcement finally came, Altuzarra told the audience, “I’m so grateful and humbled.” Love, while accepting her award, announced: “I didn’t prepare anything because I didn’t expect this — and I’m shaking!” before running backstage to hug her fiancé, Matthew Nelson. And Gabier said to the crowd, “You’ve made us really happy and we hope to make you really proud.”

>> The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles hosted its annual gala on Saturday night, drawing Laura and Kate Mulleavy, Tilda Swinton, Rachel Zoe, Shala Monroque, and event chair Dasha Zhukova.

The evening, curated by the performance artist Marina Abramovic, started with guests being asked to put on a white lab coat before sitting down to dinner; each table, meanwhile, had a live, rotating human head for a centerpiece, with the attached performance artists sitting beneath. Diners were given a list of rules about interacting with the centerpiece, such as, "The centerpiece will observe you. You may observe the centerpiece." and "No touching, feeding, offering drink, or disrespecting the centerpiece."

Debbie Harry was shortly thereafter carried onstage to serenade the crowd with “One Way or Another” and “Heart of Glass.” Postperformance, two life-size nude cakes of Harry and Abramovic were brought out. With a machete, Harry removed her cake's red velvet heart, and then teams of shirtless men descended on the two cakes with meat cleavers, sending toes, breasts, and other various anatomical parts to the different tables on dessert plates.

>> Last night, Stefano Tonchi and Carine Roitfeld unveiled "The Client," a 13-minute documentary focusing on Roitfeld, at the Cultural Services of the French Embassy on Fifth Avenue in New York City. The film was produced after director Loic Prigent followed Roitfeld around the most recent Paris couture week — to the shows, couture fittings with everyone from Azzedine Alaia to Jean Paul Gaultier, and then finally at a W shoot for which she models the couture looks she chose.
