T Magazine

>> BLOWING THE COVER —The Fall 2008 women's fashion edition of The New York Times T Magazine comes out this Sunday, and Rachel McAdams has nabbed the cover of the 302-page issue with a decidedly goth-glam image.

Keira Knightley

>> BLOWING THE COVER —Vogue's September 2008 issue is causing waves for two reasons today — first, for the odd, matted hairstyle that Keira Knightley is sporting on the cover, and second, because it is down to 674 ad pages from 725 last year.

One full ad page can cost up to $120,000, so losing 51 pages . . . well, that hurts. [BellaSugar, WSJ]

Harper's Bazaar

W's September 2008 Bizarre Bazaar Fiasco

>> Is Liz Tilberis rolling in her grave right now?

>> Is Liz Tilberis rolling in her grave right now? Her iconic September 1994 Harper's Bazaar cover of Nadja Auermann photographed by Patrick Demarchelier has been swiped and reinterpreted for the September 2008 cover of W, featuring Kate Hudson as photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

The resemblance is far too uncanny to be a coincidence, what with the same blonde hair, light eyebrows, heavy cat-eye makeup, piercing blue eyes, and dark lipstick framed with a collar of blue all in common.  Of all the months to choose, wouldn't the big September issue be one you'd want to get creative with?

Naomi Campbell

Jourdan Dunn Winks, Blinks, and Nods at Naomi Campbell for September 2008 i-D

>> Those July 2008 Vogue Italia shockwaves keep on resonating: Black models are covering POP Fall 2008, Harper's Bazaar September 2008, and now Jourdan Dunn shows up on i-D September 2008, photographed by Emma Summerton.  Even V 55 is rumored to be a Naomi Campbell extravaganza.  Speaking of Naomi, how much does Jourdan call to mind the supermodel on this cover and in the accompanying "Welcome to the witching hour" editorial?

>> BLOWING THE COVER —As rumored earlier, Tyra Banks does indeed have the September 2008 Harper's Bazaar cover — the subscriber's edition is at left.  Perhaps it's the newsstand version that has her dressed as Michelle Obama?  Regardless, look at the trend Vogue Italia has set: first POP, now Bazaar.

Prada

POP Goes Black, White, and Prada for Fall 2008

>> Franca Sozzani is feeling it, and now Katie Grand is too: the six covers of POP Fall 2008 are evenly split between three black models (Jourdan Dunn, Naomi Campbell, Oluchi Onweagba) and three white models (Natalia Vodianova, Amber Valletta, Agyness Deyn), styled as "Hot Nuns" in Prada and photographed by Sebastian Faena.

Jourdan, with her Frida Kahlo brows, and Agyness, with her holy pose are most striking, but I for one can't wait to see the Agyness Deyn editorial inside we've been talking about for months.  You know, the one where Ryan McGinley had her jumping nude off a fire escape?

August 2008 Vogue Italia: Still A Fan of Black Clothes, But What About Black Models?

>> The August 2008 issue of Vogue Paris is dedicated to Yves Saint Laurent, and likewise, the editors at Vogue Italia had their own August 2008 YSL tribute in mind.  The follow up to the hugely successful July "Black Issue" features Karen Elson, Linda Evangelista, Guinevere van Seenus, and Iris Strubegger in a funereal Steven Meisel cover story, "Silent." In one picture, a huge headstone features the name "Black," strangely implying that "black is dead."  I wonder if the message was purposeful?  A strange choice to follow up the celebratory nature of July's issue, especially considering that there are no black models in this editorial .
