there's something about gisele
>> This month, LeBron James becomes the third man ever to star on a Vogue
cover, following in the footsteps of George Clooney (June 2000) and
Richard Gere (November 1992). The most recent two covers have
something even more striking in common . . . Gisele Bundchen appears on
both.
I guess when you have a formula that works, you stick with it — all three covers pair man with supermodel (Richard Gere appeared with then-girlfriend Cindy Crawford), and all three covers are highlighted with red and white fonts. They appear in eight-year intervals: 1992, 2000, 2008, so if all goes according to the pattern, we may not see another until 2016.
Congrats, Lebron! But I wonder how Anna's favorite Roger Federer feels about this . . .
i vote daria werbowy as the next supermodel!

What about the December 2007 issue with Penelope Cruz? There are four men surrounding her on the cover. They are just models and are not featured in the article but they still count as men on the cover of Vogue.

You're right — good catch! I was looking at men who play a starring role in the cover, whereas the men on the cover with Penelope play more of a background role. Interesting though . . . that cover still has the red and white fonts.

It's nice to see Giselle smiling, she is usually very stoic in the VS, Dolce & Gabanna, and Roberto Cavalli ads. Doesn't she look fabulous in that green number?

Giselle is great. I think the reason she appears with men is that she's so glorious and womanly it's actually conceivable that heterosexual men would want to sleep with her.

I wish they hadn't made LeBron look like such a brut...

I had the same feeling LauraKitty. I don't like the "angry savage dragging off the pretty lady" vibe I'm getting from the cover.
I wish they had put LeBron in something more fashion-forward and made him look more dapper instead of dangerous.

Yeah, it does look like he's a brute dragging off the pretty blond while taking a menacing stance and roaring into the camera. Basketball bouncing with one hand, blond chick in the other - not exactly a classy portrayal is it?

i didnt like it too much. Her pose was too awkward and he looks like he's gonna beat someone to death.

WOW, the George & Richard Gere covers are insanely similar.

yeah it's pretty King Kong.
good deconstruction of it here:

I don't like this cover. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it is the angry brute thing. . .I don't know. . . but I do know, I hate this cover. Absolutely.

I had no idea that Lebron is only the third male on Vogue, very interesting. He is hot though, haha.

Very cool that men such as LeBron James make the cover of Vogue from time to time. There's no reason that covers should only be dominated by women, and including popular men on the cover just makes sense. Now if only Vogue could include more articles that I actually wanted to read, they'd be moving in the right direction.

That's amazing how magazines have formulas for their best selling covers. For instance, Vanity Fair, hardly puts women on it's cover because they take themselves so seriously. Only Madonna can break that mold i guess, now that she has an album out.
