Just because the Oscars celebrate the movies doesn't mean fashion people don't come out to play, too. Even in the middle of the international Fashion Weeks, the parties that start after the Oscars red carpet wraps up are filled with people who work in the industry.
The Academy Awards is the most anticipated red carpet of the year, and we've got the best looks of the night, right here. Despite the lack of bright hues (seriously, was there a no-color memo?) worn by attendees, there was still plenty to dazzle. Jennifer Lawrence and Charlize Theron both knocked it out of the park in Christian Dior Couture; Theron chose a streamlined, architectural column gown in bright white, while nominee Lawrence went for a frothy, petal pink ballgown from the recent Spring 2013 collection. Nominee Jessica Chastain wowed in a beaded champagne-hued custom Armani gown — the very embodiment of old Hollywood glamour. "It's a very 'Happy Birthday Mr. President' kind of dress," the actress agreed.

It comes but once a year, and finally the moment is nearly here: Sunday we get our Oscars red carpet fix. Will Jessica Chastain nail it as usual? Will Jennifer Lawrence wear Dior? In honor of the occassion — and all the fun speculation — we've gathered our favorite Oscar looks over the decades. Here's to hoping that come Sunday, we'll have at least one more dress to add to this list.
Scan the show notes for Massimiliano Giornetti's Fall 2013 Salvatore Ferragamo collection, and you'll notice a lot of similar words and phrases: "simplicity," "neatness," "severity," "lightness" are all there, and so is "the elimination of the unnecessary."
Yet Giornetti wasn't necessarily making a statement about stark minimalism.
Leave it to Dolce & Gabbana to bring a little flash to Fall 2013. This season, the duo's penchant for flair came in the form of Byzantine mosaic prints, religious fresco patterns, and dazzling jewel adornments — not to mention the army of models in crimson lace that closed the show.
If all that sounds a bit too expected, don't worry.
Angela Missoni told the Italian newswire Ansa after her Fall 2013 show on Sunday that she hasn't lost hope that her missing brother, Vittorio Missoni, will be found. Perhaps that's why her collection was so comforting and so optimistic.
"It's austere but with a romanticism," Consuelo Castiglioni said of the Fall 2013 collection she sent out in Milan Sunday. Sure enough, this was a sparser, darker collection than fans of the quirky-retro brand have come to expect.
That's not to say it wasn't lovely in its starkness.
What could be more refreshing in the dark of Winter than pastels? Giorgio Armani's Fall 2013 Emporio Armani collection, a brightly colored array of soft shapes and clean lines, proposes mint, cream, and lavender as a potential cure for cold-weather doldrums.
