The list of finalists who will compete for the 2012 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund has been released, and the 13 up-and-coming designers on it include Wes Gordon, Tabitha Simmons, and Suno's Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty. The contestants will start proving their mettle at the end of July, when they will present their collections to a panel of judges. Other challenges will include creating a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry for Tiffany & Co. and presenting a show in Los Angeles. The work is worth it: last year's winner Joseph Altuzarra took home a prize of $300,000, while runners-up Pamela Love and Creatures of the Wind's Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters were given $100,000. Winners of the competition are also appointed talented mentors — Diane von Furstenberg, David Neville, and Marcus Wainwright have worked with winners in the past. This year's winner and runners-up will be announced in November. Below, a look at which designers are in the running.

Best Dressed at the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup 2012

Despite the gloomy UK weather, there were plenty of bright spots at this past weekend's Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup polo final in West Sussex, England. Zara Martin and Jade Williams, for one — the pair was the picture of polish as they sipped champagne and zipped around the giant Veuve-themed carousel in their coordinated black-and-white Moschino skirt-and-jacket ensembles.

Also on hand and looking quite chic was Downton Abbey's Laura Carmichael, who attended on the arm of Christopher Kane and wore a vibrant printed dress from the designer's Resort 2013 collection. "We met at a party,” Kane explained of his and Carmichael's friendship. "We were both still there at 7 a.m., and I thought, anyone who can last as long as me is worth knowing. We’ve been friends ever since."

Watch: Cartoon Karl Lagerfeld Creates Mascot For Shu Uemura Collab

Every hero needs an origin story, and Mon Shu Girl — the animated mascot of Karl Lagerfeld's upcoming collaboration with Shu Uemura— was conceived after Lagerfeld got a jolt of inspiration from a stack of colorful eye shadows.

Every hero needs an origin story, and Mon Shu Girl — the animated mascot of Karl Lagerfeld's upcoming collaboration with Shu Uemura— was conceived after Lagerfeld got a jolt of inspiration from a stack of colorful eye shadows. Or at least that's what happens in the video below: a cartoon version of the designer starts sketching the character, who comes alive once she's been colored with the Shu Uemura products Lagerfeld uses for his real-life illustrations. Mon Shu Girl then takes off on a rocket ship — presumably to spread the word about the collaboration. The products will be available in Shu Uemura's 400 locations worldwide and online in November.

The rumors are true: a host of British supermodels — including Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell — will take to the runway during the closing ceremony of the London Olympics.

The rumors are true: a host of British supermodels — including Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell — will take to the runway during the closing ceremony of the London Olympics.

Moss and Campbell will be joined by Georgia May Jagger, Stella Tennant, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Lily Cole during their turn on the specially designed catwalk. Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton will dress the models, and the presentation will reportedly be set to David Bowie's songs "Fashion" and "Rebel Rebel."

The catwalk presentation will be part of a multimillion-dollar closing games extravaganza, which will be titled "A Symphony of British Music" and will feature musical performances by Queen, George Michael, Annie Lennox, Adele, The Pet Shop Boys, and One Direction, among others. A troupe of 300 dancers will move through choreography inspired by London at rush hour, and Russell Brand will perform a comedic version of the Sex Pistols' "Pretty Vacant" and The Beatles' "I Am the Walrus." Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John are also on the performance schedule. All of the performers are being paid a fee of £1 — about $1.55 at the current exchange rate.

The show's organizers stress that the set list is subject to change and are reticent about revealing further details. "We won't comment," a spokesman said. "We want the lineup to be a surprise."
