It was another busy week — one that was filled with nonstop chic. Among the style moments of note: the premiere of Farewell My Queen in New York, which brought Diane Kruger in her Azzedine Alaia finest, and the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles, where Jessica Biel stunned in a stellar Christian Dior frock and Zooey Deschanel — sans black tights — sparkled in Oscar de la Renta.

Le Look du Jour: 24 Modern French Muses
"With French women you first see the woman and then you see the clothes," Carine Roitfeld has said when describing the essence of French style. "It's more the way you mix the clothes and how you move, how you open your bag, how you cross your legs — just little things that make a difference."

Roitfeld makes it sound simple, but that perfect mix of irreverence, glamour, beauty, effortlessness, sex appeal, and slouch? Easier said than done. "It’s the fantasy of the entire world of women, even French women, to be the perfect Parisienne," Le Figaro columnist Bertrand de Saint Vincent explained recently in The New York Times.

Elusive, yes, but not impossible. Brigitte Bardot did it. Francoise Hardy and Jane Birkin, too. And while there's no denying the allure of those indelible dames, they're not the only ones. In honor of Bastille Day, check out 24 totally modern French femmes who somehow embody that certain je nais se quoi to a T.

Behind The Scenes: How The Flower-Filled Dior Couture Set Was Made
Over a million flowers covered the mansion in Paris where Raf Simons staged his couture debut for Christian Dior this month, and the process took several days — plus a team of florists, truck drivers, and set designers — to pull off. Workers started cutting and packaging the flowers three days before the show, then began a two-day installation process that took all weekend. By the time Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, and Azzedine Alaia arrived for the show on Monday, July 2, five rooms had been covered with delphinium, orchids, zinnia, golden rods, Queen Anne's lace, and roses in a variety of colors. A look at how the walls of flowers were built in the video below.
