  • Chloé will celebrate its 60th anniversary this year — and in grand fashion. Among the scheduled festivities are a retrospective exhibition and a party in conjunction with the Spring 2013 show. The house will also release a capsule collection based on garments from its archives, redecorate its Paris boutique, and publish a book with Rizzoli. [WWD]

  • The catalog for Daphne Guinness's Christie's clothing auction is online. Hopeful buyers will be able to bid on dresses from Lanvin and Alexander McQueen, a Lacroix opera coat, and a selection of size 37 shoes. [The Cut]

  • Gucci recently bought a stallion named Vleut and, in honor of the brand's founder, Guccio Gucci, renamed it Guccio. The hope is that Guccio will make an appearance at this Summer's Olympic Games in London, though he currently resides at the Dutch home of Australian equestrienne Edwina Alexander. [Elle]

  • Speaking of the Olympics, rumor has it that British models Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will participate in the closing ceremonies at the London games. Details are scant, but the three are said to be participating in a display of fashion from top British designers like Vivienne Westwood and Sarah Burton. [Modelinia]

  • Ahead of her move to the English countryside, Amanda Brooks has donated a portion of her high-end wardrobe to the New York City Opera's annual pop-up thrift shop. There is reportedly lots of Prada, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Jil Sander, Tuleh, Yves Saint Laurent, and Chanel — and "loads of shoes." [Page Six]

Marc Jacobs cited Portland, OR, and Tokyo as reference points for his Resort 2013 Marc by Marc Jacobs collection — and both cities' respective influence was plenty present. It made for an intriguing fashion mashup, one that was heavily peppered with Jacobs's signature thrift-shop eclecticism. There were military anoraks in washed-out denim, crewneck sweatshirts in jumbo stripes, cargo pants in camo-floral prints, and — for those who really love nostalgia — Jacobs's grunge-era face emblazoned on limited-edition tees and sweatshirts. The dream of the '90s is alive, indeed.

Pajamas and athletic gear informed Alber Elbaz as he was designing his Resort 2013 collection for Lanvin — but that doesn't mean his offering this season is any less luxurious than it ever has been. Instead of making garments that simply look casual, Elbaz said he wanted to create clothing that was "as easy to wear as a tracksuit." He achieved this by taking technical fabrics — like parachute silk and materials normally reserved to make bras and space blankets — and forming them into floral print jackets, voluminous skirts and coats, and more than one deconstructed dress cinched at the waist with elastic. Elbaz also placed a new emphasis on handbags, which are shown with many looks in the collection. "I heard that bags are very important in fashion," he said.

For Resort 2013, Phillip Lim looked not to exotic beach locales or sun-drenched vacation destinations. Instead, the designer — and recent CFDA Swarovski Award for Menswear winner — found inspiration much closer to home. "I was sitting in my garden, watching the blooms come out," Lim said. The resulting collection is a breezy mix of Lim's signature functionality and cool modernity — covered in a smattering of lush floral prints. "Flutility," Lim explained. "It's about adding blooms to utilitarian forms." But it's not all roses and hydrangeas: the designer also looked to city maps and aerial urban views for design cues, and thus there are graphic grid prints, laminated skins, and lots of slick black leather to temper all the sweetness.

Michael Kors

Michael Kors on Growing Up in Fashion

Michael Kors is the funniest man in fashion — or at least that's how Fern Mallis described him when she brought him on stage for the latest edition of her Fashion Icons series at 92nd Street Y.

Michael Kors is the funniest man in fashion — or at least that's how Fern Mallis described him when she brought him on stage for the latest edition of her Fashion Icons series at 92nd Street Y.

Mallis asked Kors about everything from growing up on Long Island, where he was born Karl Anderson Jr. — "the least likely name for a nice Jewish boy" — to his first dalliance in fashion: redesigning his mother's second wedding dress at the age five. "The dress is pretty timeless," Kors said. Read on for more highlights from the talk — including Kors on his first Met Gala, who he'd like to play him in a movie, and why he dropped out of FIT.

On redesigning his mother's wedding dress: "My mom tried the dress on and it was covered with a zillion bows — bows everywhere! And my grandmother said, 'That's magnificent!' And I just kind of sat in the corner, and my mother said, 'What's wrong? What do you think?' So I said, 'I think it's really busy.' So my grandmother said, 'Oh, don’t listen to him, he’s only five.' Priscilla of Boston, how could you go wrong? And then the tailor came in and my mom said, 'Trim off a few of the bows,' so they took them off the bodice at first. And then my mom said, 'You know, he’s right. Take them all off,' so the bows went off."

On dropping out of FIT: "I got to school and I had been sketching since I was really small, and I had such firm ideas about what I liked, so I was fighting with the teachers . . . I don't think that there's a rule in fashion in how you have to chart your course. I would never tell anyone, 'Oh drop out, it worked for me.'"

On his first Met Gala with Vera Wang, while he was working for the retailer Lothar's: "Vera, in fact, was working at Vogue ... and wore a Michael Kors for Lothar's charmeuse slip with a leather down vest and a mohair sweater around the waist. I think we were definitely doing creative black tie. In we went and it was the year of the Saint Laurent exhibit. I got to meet him and I almost levitated. This was when it was in December and it started snowing while we were in the Temple of Dendur. Suddenly it got very quiet . . . and then we found out that it was the night that John Lennon was killed."

On the show that inspired Mallis to start fashion week: "The music started, and it was very hot that day. Pounding, pounding, pounding music. Naomi Campbell was out there strutting her stuff and all of a sudden I heard this explosion from backstage. It sounded like gunfire and I was just, 'What on earth was that?' Naomi got off the runway and she said to me, 'The ceiling caved in. The plaster just came down. And hit people.' We hit Suzy Menkes . . . It was time for New York to get professional show spaces. Voila!"

On who should play him in a movie: "If it's a drama and vanity comes into it, I'm gonna have to go with Daniel Day-Lewis. If it's a big box office comedy, Will Ferrell."

On his philosophy of life: "You can have it all. You can be glamorous, you can be sexy, you can be comfortable, you can feel good in your own skin. Balance indulgent with pragmatic. You have to feel good, that's what it's all about."

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez said they were focused on "creating product: wearable, salable clothes that girls want" when they designed Proenza Schouler's Resort 2013 collection. Perhaps it's their new found responsibility as store owners — their first boutique will open in New York this July — that has them focusing on less directional offerings. Regardless, these boyfriend jeans, slouchy t-shirts, and relaxed tweed jackets and skirts, are sure to appeal to both loyal fans and new customers alike. Even the multitude of leather pieces — a sleeveless shirt, skirt, and jacket among them — seem designed with a wider customer base in mind.

A veritable constellation of stars, from models to actors, musicians and beyond, convened Wednesday night to celebrate the opening of Chanel's Little Black Jacket exhibit.

Carine Roitfeld, Olivier Theyskens, Linda Evangelista, and Joan Smalls were among the subjects of Karl Lagerfeld's new book about Chanel's classic black jacket who attended the party, held in a contemporary gallery space in New York's SoHo neighborhood. They were joined by Jessica Paré, Zac Posen, and Pharrell Williams, among others. The only person at the party who drew more attention than Lagerfeld's photos was 4-year-old Hudson Kroenig, son of model and Lagerfeld muse Brad Kroenig. Hudson wore a custom version of the little black jacket — but he didn't get to drink any of the champagne that flowed throughout the crowded rooms.

After the party, Lagerfeld hosted a small dinner at Balthazar; Evangelista, Rinko Kikuchi, Penn Badgley, Elisa Sednaoui, Zoe Kravitz, and Lily Collins were among those in attendance. Theophilus London performed at the dinner, and Poppy Delevingne assumed DJ duty when London finished his set.

The party may be over, but the Little Black Jacket exhibit will be open to the public from June 8 to 15 at 18 Wooster Street in New York City before continuing its tour. A few pictures from Wednesday's celebration here in the gallery.
