Vena Cava Fall 2012

>> The pieces Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock created for Fall 2012 espouse a colorful optimism that is tempered only by practical tailoring. Maybe that sense of delight comes from the knowledge and comfort of the licensing deal Vena Cava struck recently with global trading firm Li & Fung.

The happy news is as good a reason as any to dust off summery shades of turquoise, yellow, and cobalt and serve them up playfully during the coldest months of the year. But to keep them in the season, Buhai and Mayock grounded their brights in basic black and sewed them into some decidedly '40s silhouettes. These looks are strong, and as Vena Cava regains its strength as a corporate entity, it's only imaginable that the clothes will get even more powerful.

  • A newspaper in Thailand reported that the country is getting its very own edition of Vogue, hot on the heels of the new edition that just launched in the Netherlands. If the story is to be believed, current Elle Thailand editor Kullawit Laosuksri would be the new magazine's editor-in-chief. He'd also be the only man in the all-women Vogue editors-in-chief club. • Mulberry decided to release its new Del Rey handbag, named after singer Lana Del Rey, a few weeks early. Its flagship stores in New York, London, and Singapore started carrying the bag today — Del Rey herself has had one since February — but the rest of the world will have until May to purchase the $1,250 bag. • Singer Adam Levine wasn't debriefed before his supermodel ex-girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna told the world they'd broken up. A friend of his says he was "blindsided" by reports last week that the two were no longer an item, and that Vyalitsyna was eager to avoid the impression that she was the one who got dumped. [The Cut]

  • Stylist Stevie Dance has started her own shopping-focused blog called Shop Ghost, which promises stories "about how subcultures create shopping trends, how we invest in ourselves, how we stalk ideas online, what we buy but never wear, what we want to recommend and why." Case in point: Shop Ghost launched with a story about shopaholic photographer Tommy Ton, who says he wants to start designing clothes within the next five years. [Shop Ghost]

  • Marc Jacobs celebrated his 49th birthday by frolicking on a beach in Rio de Janeiro with his boyfriend, 24-year-old Brazilian adult film actor Harry Louis. [Styleite]

Watch: Gareth Pugh Explains His Fall 2012 Collection, Shares Good Advice From Rick Owens

>> Gareth Pugh's original, sculptural designs are fashion fantasy brought to life — but Pugh says he's inspired by growing up in a town with an identity crisis.

"Fashion is very much about building a world around you that doesn't necessarily exist in the real world," Pugh said during a recent studio visit with Crane TV. "I think that want for escape or fantasy is something that comes from the area in which I grew up. Sunderland doesn't really know its identity, I don't think. It doesn't really have a great sense of industry. I think it's a reaction to my surroundings that made me want to pursue something creative."

Watch the video below for a glimpse inside Pugh's Fall 2012 collection and his recent project with London's Royal Opera House — plus, hear the best piece of advice he's ever gotten, given to him by none other than fellow designer Rick Owens.

It's Official: Vogue Paris to Debut English Version Next Week

>> Vogue Paris will keep the promise it made on Twitter last Friday by adding an English option to its website.

>> Vogue Paris will keep the promise it made on Twitter last Friday by adding an English option to its website.

Jennifer Neyt, who edits Vogue.fr, said starting Monday, April 16, the website will feature both French and British flags on its navigation bar; clicking on the Union Jack will display the website in English. For now, all the articles will be English translations of stories that were originally written in French.

Vogue Italia's website is the only other Vogue property that has an option to switch between two languages. French Vogue announced it would add the functionality last Friday when it tweeted, "France gave the US the Statue of Liberty, now we are taking Vogue.fr to the wider world... get ready for #VogueParisinEnglish."

David Beckham Is Elle UK's First Male Solo Cover

>> Soccer player turned underwear designer David Beckham will make magazine history today when he poses for Elle UK's first cover that doesn't feature a woman.

Elle UK editor Lorraine Candy said the July issue will be pegged to this Summer's Olympic games in London, and picked Beckham because he bridges the gap between British sports and British fashion.

"David Beckham is a national hero, so we saw an opportunity to shoot a celebratory cover to support a historical and patriotic year," she said. "He is an icon and Elle is known for featuring icons on its cover. This is a first for us on the newsstand and I believe he is loved by men and women alike. Anyway, who doesn't want to see a picture of one of the world's most handsome men on the front cover of a magazine? It will be a collector's issue."

Elle has put men on its covers in the past, but most of them have been standing next to (or crouching underneath) women. Beckham, who's never been on the cover of a glossy women's magazine before, said he feels "honored to have been asked to be the first ever solo male fashion cover."

A look at some of the other men who have been on the cover of Elle UK in the gallery.
