>> Last month after being snapped together at a charity polo match, rumors ignited that Karlie Kloss and Joe Jonas were dating. Not so, Kloss said over the weekend: "No, we're really not [dating]." In fact, the two met for the first time at the polo event: "It was such a fun event, and we had an amazing time together . . . I'm so glad we met!" As for whether the rumors phase her, Kloss replied: "You just have to laugh. We're great friends, and I do love him as a person." [Life & Style]
>> Theory founder Andrew Rosen led a group of 20 investors in a deal that was finalized Friday, giving them ownership of a stake in Proenza Schouler. WWD reports that the group invested between $10 and $20 million in exchange for a minority stake equal to that held by Proenza Schouler's management. By comparison, Permira bought a 45 percent stake in the label — which it no longer holds — in 2007, for $3.7 million.
Apparently little of the new cash will be going straight to Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez; they are said to have passed up opportunities for a bigger payday in order to maintain more control over the label.
So where is the money going? It's speculated that before the designers venture into new tiers — like, say, a diffusion line — they'll focus more on accessories, retail, e-commerce, and potentially denim (they have collaborated with J Brand in the past). Earlier this year, Proenza Schouler CEO Shirley Cook also suggested that they've been considering a fragrance launch.
>> Arizona Muse and Freja Beha Erichsen inspired rumors of a romantic relationship during the couture shows last month, and over the past few months, they have been captured embracing by Terry Richardson and featured together in two different Karl Lagerfeld-lensed editorials. Now, they pair up again for Mario Testino and Vogue UK's September 2011 issue in a shoot inspired by the Dutch Masters which Alexandra Shulman says "earns its place among Vogue classics." Beha Erichsen also serves as the magazine's September 2011 cover girl.
>> Many a biography and biopic have come out delving into bits and pieces of Coco Chanel's life, but an upcoming biography is said to have unearthed some new details. With the release of Coco Chanel: An Intimate Life, out Nov. 10, biographer Lisa Chaney claims to have concrete evidence that Chanel used drugs, embraced bisexuality, and had an affair with Salvador Dali while he was married. Chaney, through an email from her publicist, also says she accessed documents in the Swiss Federal Archives that prove Chanel’s German lover Hans Gunther von Dincklage spied for the Nazis throughout World War II. “Whether Chanel was aware of this is unknown, but after that war she lived in neutral Switzerland for a while, to avoid any proceedings against her,” the email noted. >> Just as it has been announced that the Costume Institute's "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" set an attendance record over the weekend, the house's Fall 2011 ad campaign — featuring Raquel Zimmermann in her own kind of savage beauty, captured by David Sims — has dropped.
As of Sunday night, more than 582,000 people have seen the "Savage Beauty" show, surpassing the previous record — for a fashion exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art — of 576,000, set by “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” in 2008. The McQueen exhibit closes in a week on Aug. 7, and is expected by that time to rank among the Met's 20 most popular exhibitions, since the museum began tracking attendance 50 years ago.
>> Alexa Chung and her longtime boyfriend, Artic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner, have split; the couple, 27 and 25 respectively, were together for over four years. "It's completely amicable — but yes it's true. They have split," Chung's spokesperson confirmed in a statement yesterday.
Chung recently bought an apartment in New York after landing a hosting gig for the upcoming Lifetime show 24-Hour Catwalk — which pits designers against each other in runway challenges — created by Harvey Weinstein. Turner, meanwhile, is currently on a world tour through the rest of the Summer. They started dating in April 2007, after meeting at Coachella.
>> In contrast to last season's Prada campaign video — which saw models like Arizona Muse and Mariacarla Boscono bopping around to upbeat music — this season's campaign film is much moodier. Lots of accessories closeups are contrasted with a breathy voiceover, and there's no dancing here: instead, Kelly Mittendorf languishes on a blue sofa or Frida Gustavsson freezes in pose on a purple bench; fellow Fall 2011 Prada faces Julia Zimmer, Ondria Hardin, and Antonia Wesseloh also make appearances.
>> LOVE's sixth edition boasts more covers than ever before: models Kristen McMenamy, Daphne Groeneveld, Nyasha Matonhodze, Lara Stone, Mariacarla Boscono, plus the young, 14-and-under starlets Hailee Steinfeld, Elle Fanning, and Chloe Moretz, "their faces free of makeup and streaked with tears," as alternatively styled by Grand, Panos Yiapanis, or Arianne Phillips. All eight were photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
